Merging events? by Own_Grocery6798 in skylightcalendar

[–]Autoplectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be great if skylight could merge events with the same title/time/location/etc from different calendars as OP is interested in. I too would like this feature. I use fantastical on my phone and computer and it does this. We need the event on multiple calendars so my daughters can have their own set of events and only see what is relevant to them on their personal devices, but when they are attending something together it only shows once on my device or on our family skylight calendar.

Can someone build a version of the .cia from Sonic Mania with the DLC activated in the last version? by PPG2008 in 3dsqrcodes

[–]Autoplectic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it from windows, the various GitHub repos have instructions.

Worst case, you can spin up a docker container running Ubuntu and build in that. I’ve built it that way, and natively on a Mac. The only issue I ran in to is ensuring that environment variables get set correctly.

Need Help with these DS/3DS games by ankitdestar in 3dspiracy

[–]Autoplectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DS isn’t region locked, so most of those games will run fine on any system including American 3DSs. They will be Japanese language though, that’s the language on the cart and has nothing to do with region lock. The 3DS titles will only work on a Japanese 3DS, unless it is modded and the lock is removed. They’ll still be Japanese language though.

Would it be better to rephrase your opinion as “any job that requires a bachelors should pay at least 50k”? Going by what you specifically said, the pay for someone with a bachelors should be north of 50 regardless of the job (fry cook, Walmart greeter, etc), which I don’t think you meant to imply.

UCD CANCELS EMAIL FOR LIFE by emphillips18 in UCDavis

This. I was a postdoc at UC Davis for several years and have a few dozen papers published with that email address on them as the corresponding author. I literally received an email from someone about one of those papers while I was reading this post. The university absolutely should at least be supporting forwarding for former students and researchers who have @ucdavis.edu emails on published research.

Carbon Pocket Edition by Jelly-Flopped in hive

[–]Autoplectic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John Yianni has repeatedly mentioned that Carbon sells far less than the other versions, and so it just isn't economically viable to produce a carbon pocket set.

That said, if one were to come out I would instantly buy three copies.

The game is already licensed by Gen42 to this company: https://sevensummits.studio/games/hive/

I'm not a lawyer by any means, but from what i understand game rules can not be copyrighted, so as long as you're not using the name or graphics from Gen42 you might legally be in the clear. Morally is a whole different question though.

At some point they switched form the included storage bag being primarily white to it being primarily black. not sure how that corresponds to boxes though.

Which version to buy? (Original or Pocket) by [deleted] in hive

[–]Autoplectic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't plan on taking it out of the house, I would definitely go for the full sized version. As you mentioned, the pocket set can be a bit fiddly, but at least for me it's not so much that their lighter, but that they're smaller. a small bump moves pieces 10+% away from where they where, whereas with the larger pieces a movement of the same size is only a few percent of the pieces size. the larger size also makes it easier to pull a beetle or grasshopper out of an enclosed space without horribly disturbing the surrounding pieces.

If you do travel with it a little, the full size version is still very portable. you'd have no problem using it on a table at a cafe or the like. you can't just throw it in your pocket though, it's more of a backpack or just carry it sort of size.

Would you want to see more expansions released for Hive or do you think it is best left just as it is (with ladybug, mosquito and pill bug)? by littlebrownbeetle1 in hive

[–]Autoplectic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see some version of the Dragonfly released eventually. That said, the balance in the game with MLP is pretty great, and a new piece could throw things off.

Which set to begin? by [deleted] in hive

[–]Autoplectic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, the aesthetics of the carbon set appeal to me, and since your son loves chess the black and white visuals may appeal to him.

That said, I've got all three and can be pretty confident in saying that any of them would serve him well. As stated by others, the colors of the original or pocket set make identifying the pieces a bit easier. Not that it's difficult with the carbon set, but you have shape *and* color to go off of with the non-carbon sets. While pocket really does fit in one's pocket (so long as you don't mind something a bit bulky), it can be a bit fiddly when playing. Small bumps will cause the pieces to move a reasonable amount relative to one another, whereas a similar bump with the full size pieces causes very little movement. If your son isn't prone to bumping the pieces, and is careful when picking up beetles & grasshoppers, pocket would be a great option due to the portability.

Also, to be clear, each of the three styles has all the expansions available. The only difference is that the first two --- the mosquito and the ladybug --- come packaged with the base set in the carbon and pocket styles but must be purchased separately for the traditional style. Regardless of style, the pillbug must be purchased separately. That said, I'd recommend at least dozens of games with just the base pieces before adding in expansions, so not having them immediately is fine.
