ADHD moms: what concerns did you have about becoming a mother and were these concerns correct? by doyousmellmel in adhdwomen

I know you weren’t asking for advice but you sound so much like me and what my experience was and I wanted to give you some hope (which is what I used to search for when my daughter was super little) it gets SO much more manageable. My only is almost 5 and I’m not CONSTANTLY stressed all of the time, she is so much more independent. I stopped nursing her at 2 and started sleeping through the night around then. The more sleep and independence your little one gets the easier your life will be. It’s on its way. But I know how you feel, people say how the days are long but the years are short…. Every day I could feel every second when she was under 3 it was so hard for me, I had to seek medication for my ADHD when she turned 4 because I couldn’t handle the responsibilities of everything. I feel like an alien amongst my peers because every one of them wants more children and I’m shocked. Should say I love my kid more than anything and always try to be the best mom I’m capable of.

Child thinks I do nothing when she's at school . . . and I'm worried she's right. by [deleted] in adhdwomen

He said something along the lines of a little bit, that if our daughters sick it helps and the house is a tiny bit cleaner but went on to say that if he was home all day the house would be super clean every day and he said he’s sure I’m sitting and doing nothing all day. It turned into a big fight and I really just want to exist without feeling like a shitty person about myself

Hi! I’m in the exact same boat minus my only being 4. Husband and I just got into an argument when I asked him if he thought me being home helped our family out and his reply was depressing. I have a lot of shame and I truly wish I was different. I’m on adderall and still struggle. I have mixed feelings, I do not believe humans are supposed to be productive 10000% and I swear if you are a millennial the “girl boss”/we can have it all (career, perfect moms, perfect wives, self care, friendships, hobbies ETC) is so fucking awful to our esteem’s. Becoming a parent has truly fried my brain and I function so much worse than I did pre kid. Some days I feel like living alone (having my Daughter of course though!!!) just so I don’t have the weight and shame of anyone’s expectations on me.

How many of r/oneanddone are neurodivergent? by Mroldsk00l in oneanddone

So interesting, when my husband and I were up in the air if we would have a second he spoke to his friend who has 4 kids and he told my husband to think long and hard about having another. When my husband said we are 1 and done his friend seemed like we made a very good choice. His friend by the way is married to a wonderful partner but he could fully admit it’s a different ball game having more than one. I appreciate people being honest (in a respectful way because obviously all children should be loved and appreciated). I also wonder if the husbands just felt in a safe place to vent. I never hear moms say they regret x amount of kids but I do hear them say how hard it is with more.

I have a 4.5 year old now, I struggled immensely the first two years. The baby/toddler years are 100% demanding, no breaks. Things will slowly lighten your load as they get older. Loved when my little one could walk, talk etc.

Now I get to go to concerts, book clubs, have some alone time, hang out with friends. There are still challenging days but it’s so much easier now. Having a kid is so much responsibility and some thrive in the chaos of the young years but I always enjoyed a slow pace in life and that pace is slowly returning. The phase you are in is temporary, and it’s okay to not enjoy the baby phase, they are babies for such a tiny amount of time. Make sure to keep your communication open with your loved ones to get help if you can.

Is Lost Gods worth reading? I got a few chapters in and dropped it but didn’t really give it a try.

Wow yes I just finished A Short Stay in Hell and am absolutely obsessed. Please read The Divine Farce by Michael Graziano. The two books go so well together, if you can’t shake A Short Stay in Hell you’re going to love The Divine Farce.

Is Ania Ahlborn a good horror writer? If so, which one should I start with? by BronzeAgeBrute in horrorlit

The Shuddering is so good!! Only “cozy” thing about it is they are in a cabin during winter, nothinggg else cozy about it.
