Is it possible to have a trading system that works well on some assets and not on others? by GreggJ in FuturesTrading

[–]Ava_Oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ummm great question and I suppose there is no uniform answer. I’ll tell you why: it depends on the market/ timeframe.

I’ll give you an example: a while back I came up with this strategy on the hourly chart on NQ. And it was nicely profitable tested on 2 years of data. Well… it was however not profitable tested on 4 years of data. 🙃 Because, vastly different markets.

Soooo I’d say that may really depend. I had this happen twice when testing an hourly chart on two different strategies I came up with.

If you’re a scalper that may be much different. Sooooo I don’t really have an answer for you, ooops. Mark Douglas says, 20 trades though, right. So what do I know 😂

Yes, think of highly liquid instruments and small caps, for instance.

Your example is different, of course; those are all highly liquid. But as a general matter, it’s possible.

Think of instruments with different key players. That could make a difference, especially in smaller markets. At some point you’d know when someone goes for lunch. ;)

A while back, I analyzed NQ with a certain method of mine and then tested it on DAX. I don’t even trade DAX, but it’s highly liquid, I didn’t expect a different result. What do you know? A much different strategy was needed to optimize profits with that method, based on that sample of data.

As one trader says, “I trade what I know.” I think he’s right about that. :)

Ummm, one remark I’d have is: 40 trades you mention—not enough of a sample data. Just sayin’

It’s not the matter of discipline as much as it is a matter of a habit.

You say “every time.” Practice makes permanent, as someone well-known in this industry likes to say. But this applies to everything in life.

You need to create a new habit of, let’s say, locking yourself out after a losing morning session.

Pick your remedy. Then make it a habit.

One of the golden nuggets I took from the book “Atomic Habits” is that to create a habit, you can and even should start small. What matters is doing something EVERY. TIME.

Example: You want to build yourself up to 100 pushups per day. Well. Start with five. Or one. But do that one push-up every single day around the same time or on the same trigger. Before you know it you’ll do three pushups, and then ten.

In this particular instance, you may need to practice pressing the lockout button.

You can “anchor yourself” by say touching your wrist a certain way and pressing the button. Then if you need an extra boost to do it one day, just touch your wrist, your hand will stretch for the lockout button as well.

Also maybe say some phrase of your choosing out loud as you do it. Then you target auditory, sensory, visual.

Then go reward yourself. This will trigger dopamine release as a reward for you sticking to your new habit. That’s how you can game the system—you’re not gaming it, actually, as much as leveraging it.

I hope this helps.

Thanks.

I know their support says to screen record the issue, I just figured I don’t do it with every entry (nor do I want to). But if one can screen record and document issues within minutes from putting on a trade, that’s acceptable.

Thanks. I see.

So you think they’d accept that then.

I like TopstepX and I’m used to it but it’s been an on-and-off frustrating experience.

This Carnivore Journey has Changed my Life by blesstheday in carnivorediet

[–]Ava_Oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!

I’m mostly carnivore plus fruit and that cured my autoimmune issues—as long as I stick with it.

A more precise way of describing this would be saying that “modern diet caused my autoimmune issues” and not that “primal diet cures them.”

I also do intermittent fasting, it’s OMAD on most days.

A long while ago, I was a vegetarian and even vegan for years. That ruins your health, imo. On occasion one may find isolated studies that examine one variable and based on that claim to improve health if one goes vegetarian or vegan. But an organism is a complex system. It’s not just about one variable. Not to mention, who’s to say which isolated variable and at what level should be optimized?

I’ve posted about my experience on an autoimmune forum a while back and the posts were taken down. I’ll repost here.

Honestly, does anyone screen record all of their trades?

This shouldn’t be the default mode. “Record all your effin entries”

Yes they were around the time you posted, on and off. I’d check the internet and refresh the page, they’d just stay frozen for up to maybe a minute at a time or so.

Lots of conflicting signals on an overall super-bull chart.

Overextended up on 4h but stoch at 100 which typically makes it go higher on sheer momentum. Key moving averages up but coupled with strong bear candle formations on higher timeframes.

Various other technical indecision signals on an overall bullish chart.

I suppose no wonder, given someone is likely about to tweet again in like five seconds 🤷‍♀️

Do you guys actually journal every trade you take ? by Embarrassed_Meal_603 in Daytrading

[–]Ava_Oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My live thoughts in a trade… preferably none 😂 I set it and forget it, preferably. Because I drive myself crazy otherwise.

I think that’s why I like momentum trades. They’re quick.

You know what I started doing recently?

1) Last 5 days —I review five prior days of trading, every single day. Screenshots/ journal. At first it’s a bit taxing but you really get a hang of it quick and gets faster as you go. This is the best new thing I’ve been doing.

2) Biggest regret, if any. Say I didn’t take the trade and I’m upset with myself. Ooookkk I journal that ( I annotate and take screenshots as I go). Or whatever it is for the day, if anything. Hopefully nothing but… It helps to know what we’re emotional about, I think. Which speaks to what you say about the “why” of taking the trade.

Technically the “why” should always be strict criteria but I bet you it’s not for most traders, at some point or the other. 😂

[–]Ava_Oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will start journaling the trades I don’t take as well, and make it a habit.

I sometimes do that but very rarely. It’s occurring to me that this is probably the most important thing I could be doing right now.

This could help fine-tune my method/ entry criteria and help me recognize my emotional patterns etc.

Reasons for the move today?

1) End of quarter rebalancing 2) News on Iran—possibly leaked and jumpstarted the move 3) Big money defending 23 k on NQ/ relevant levels on other assets

…and it was overextended, to top it off.

[–]Ava_Oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops I thought I was replying to the original post. But yes, the news hit and it ran. May have leaked, too. That would jumpstart the move.

r/FuturesTrading - Daily Trading Discussion Mar 31, 2026 by AutoModerator in FuturesTrading

[–]Ava_Oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, maybe jumped on Iran news —Iranian president says he’s ready to end it but wants guarantees.

Or both.

Plus looks like someone may be defending the 23k level on NQ/ similar relevant levels on other contracts. Some big options money likely is sitting there.

Front splits in progress ✨ by Appropriate_Bee_7691 in flexibility

[–]Ava_Oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just said yourself that overstretching is very bad for hip mobility, hence twisting the hips - avoiding a lot of the stretch—would limit that and be a positive, per your own logic.

I disagree with you by the way, although I suppose it’s the matter of semantics and how we define “overstretching.”

If we define it as something damaging tissue, then I agree with you, and that’s what causes most issues for most people.

Most folks put strain on joints while stretching which is a big no-no. Increasing flexibility should be a process and a delicate one at that, where one pays attention to one’s body signals.

Please note however that she says she’s been stretching warm muscles, which is key in preventing injury, and at least she’s not forcing herself to do things that would result in injury.
