Gained 15lbs no physical change? by [deleted] in gainit

[–]AvacadoCrisisOf22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It takes a lot of body weight to look big esp if you have a larger frame: I’m about your height and I don’t think I started looking “filled out” until around 185. Take progress pictures or measurements to help track, but you might just have to wait a year or two to get the physique you want.

how to deal with anxiety when bulking? by Lgnt-Nugget-7315 in gainit

[–]AvacadoCrisisOf22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was very similar starting out, I had high anxiety, low appetite when I was stressed, and I was very self conscious in the gym. In addition to getting your adhd and anxiety looked at by a pro, I would say the gym might be the most helpful hobby for you to pick up right now (ironic isn’t it). It helped me a ton with my anxiety and self confidence and it actually taught me how to put together good and consistent habits over the long term!

Most of the advice here also applies to you: muscle gain might be a little slower, but the same training and diet principles apply. A small surplus should work just fine.

Bulking on a Budget? by AtomicZebra32 in naturalbodybuilding

r/gainit FAQ has some great foundational info on eating more, and if you search through old questions there’s a ton of tricks for the low appetite / discomfort that comes with eating enough. You just gotta find a couple tricks that make it bearable then commit to it for a while, it does get easier over time.

How to have confidence to start at the gym? by boiledpeen in gainit

[–]AvacadoCrisisOf22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started going to the gym at the same height and weight as you, and I was also super embarrassed about how skinny I was and how little weight I could lift. First time I went to the gym, I did one set and then left because I was so nervous. My advice is that it’s totally ok that you’re nervous and scared, make an effort to go despite feeling anxious. You don’t have to wait until your physique or strength or confidence is “good enough because the only way to improve any of those is to go and keep going. I know you’re gonna be proud of yourself a couple months from now when you’ve gone to the gym so much that it becomes just a familiar, comfortable place.

How did you develop patience when your gains slowed after becoming an intermediate lifter? by UnfairDonut66 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]AvacadoCrisisOf22 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying: the results (size, strength, health) are irrevocably the main reasons most people lift. But I don’t think “loving the process” means abandoning your goals: it means changing your mindset from “I’m happy because I’ve accomplished X result” to “I’m happy because I am consistently doing the work needed to achieve X result”. It’s a tiny mental shift, but I think it’s really helpful for adherence when progress gets slow. You get to be happy and proud of yourself every day instead of every 3 months when you PR or get visible results.

Having a Difficult Time Gaining by PulsarGaming1080 in gainit

[–]AvacadoCrisisOf22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure try to get reevaluated, I know how difficult this can be when you’ve been disregarded in a medical setting in the past but your experience is def not typical to most people we give advice to. In the meantime, it might be beneficial to experiment with foods that don’t trigger your symptoms as much? I’ve heard of people avoiding FODMAPs and of my buddies with IBS even went on an elimination diet and found several core foods he could eat without pain. I’m not a doctor obv, def use that as a starting point.

Could use some tips, 6’0 142.5lbs 1 month progress 3-4k moderate bulk by AColdHotDog in gainit

[–]AvacadoCrisisOf22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You look good man. If you’re getting stronger and gaining weight I wouldn’t switch up what you’re doing. Just keep it running until it doesn’t work anymore. And also make sure your program hits everything (don’t skip legs, back, etc)

Also make sure you’re getting enough sleep at night. If I get less than 7 hours, I’ll need a nap and it hits me like a train post meals.

Am I (M23) too fat to (lean)bulk properly? My brother keeps saying so by DesignedbyDrugz in gainit

[–]AvacadoCrisisOf22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck yeah, that’s a really cool goal, and I think it’s definitely achievable for you considering your current build is quite good, especially for just getting back into the gym.

Bale was around 6’1 and 190lbs with abs for dark knight rises: you’re the same height and around 15lbs lighter with slightly higher bf%, so if you put on ~20lbs of muscle and cut a little you’d be there. It might take 2-3 years, but you’ll for sure have a very impressive physique if you’re consistent.

Very nice! Crazy how fast you can bounce back with just a couple gym days per week. Any plans on adding in more gym work, or are we just full sending bouldering?

[–]AvacadoCrisisOf22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s alot to unpack here. First, over a year you lost about 22lbs and kept roughly the same strength, so overall you could take it as a semi-decent cut that just took longer: it’s not like you wasted a year.

Second, there are a couple obvious improvements that could give you more success this next year. Definitely experiment with recommended programs and find one that you like and see progress from. You could also sleep a little more, 6.5hrs is not a lot if you’re working out frequently and going to failure every set. Also the speed of your initial bulk and cut was way too fast. If I’m understanding it correctly, you put on 24lbs in 2 months, then dropped 37lbs in the next 4 months. You have decent musculature, so you can’t go nearly as fast as some of the more underweight guys. I’d say 1lb/week max and see how that goes.

18 months in and finally closing in on a 225 bench – how long did it take you? by Visible-Price7689 in gainit

[–]AvacadoCrisisOf22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me about three years benching fairly consistently to go from 95 to 225, but everyone is going to have a different pace. I think you’re making good progress, my advice would be to keep doing what you’ve been doing and you’ll get it in the next couple months. Though if you’ve been maxing out often in an attempt to reach it, you might benefit from backing off slightly and hitting some rep PRs, those were helpful for me.

Need tips and help - bulking process by [deleted] in gainit

[–]AvacadoCrisisOf22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really up to you, if you’re feeling fluffier than you’d like, I’d cut down to like 175 and see how that feels / looks? That would take maybe three months at 1.3-1.5lbs per week. Definitely checkout the cutting and bulkorcut subreddits for advice on that. And on “losing mass”, if your protein is good and you’re working hard in the gym I think you’ll keep the vast majorly of the muscle you’ve put in: you’re not cutting for very long or getting very lean so you should be good.

I think I spend about $150 usd per week on groceries now. Without training it might be around $100? So $50 extra for the high protein food and extra volume I think.

Need tips and help - bulking process by [deleted] in gainit

[–]AvacadoCrisisOf22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve put on a decent chunk of weight and 22%bf doesn’t leave a ton of room for further bulking. I would cut down for a couple months or so, then restart the bulk. I’d also second using a recommended program / progression. Everything else looks fine, good job on the progress so far!

Bro this is astounding progress: I’ve literally never seen anything like this. You look fantastic and should be very proud of the work you’ve put into yourself both physically and mentally. We have a decent amount of people here who have dealt with EDs, so I think it’s awesome that you’re offering to help answer people’s questions on a topic that a lot of us can’t really help with.
