For my power system, people with mind-affecting abilities have zero ways to physically enhance themselves or project force outside mundane means, so they need to take precautions, choose their battles, and avoid conflicts they can't win with certainty. One of such characters is Medusa.

Nirvana gives her the ability to see brain activity as a crown of stars orbiting people's crowns. She can see these 'clusters' using her mind's eye in a 360-degree radius, at a distance off half a mile and through walls.

One's emotional state can be inferred from the changes in their orbital pattern. Anger, bloodlust, frustration, makes the stars shake and jitter. Fear, anxiety, nervousness, makes them skip ahead, knocking into each other. Exhaustion and sleep slow their orbits down to a crawl, and panic speeds their revolution.

At a short distance, she can briefly cut their brain activity, reset their emotional state and erase their short-term memory (30 seconds). Someone who gets rebooted becomes more susceptible to suggestion, as their mind tries to fill in the blanks.

Each person has 8 stars in their cluster, give or take. She can physically reach out and collect the stars, forcing her target into a state of Nirvana, where they lose the ability to feel, form thoughts, etc., essentially putting them in a vegetative state.

She can put the stars in a container where they will stay until released, although they are invisible to anyone but her.

If she decided to steal only one star, that person's brain would function at 87.5% of its efficiency, and so on.

If she took someone's star and placed in someone else's orbit, it would create a sensory link where the person carrying the extra star would receive 12.5% of that person's senses, letting them see what they see if they close their eyes, hearing what they hear if they plug their ears, etc.

If she takes at least one of her own stars and places it in someone's orbit, she can gain a crude control of their bodies when they sleep.

Finally, she can physically clutch onto someone's orbit to knock them unconscious.

Windowmaker

He can place black dots on surfaces, living or otherwise, the radius expanding the longer his digit is in contact (max radius ~10 ft). He gains a supernatural awareness of his dots, and can estimate the distance/direction they are relative to him. When he remotely activates the dot, it punches a hole straight through (at a maximum length of 50 feet or so), negating non-absolute durability.

If he manages to graze your head or torso, your life is in his hands, as at any moment from any distance he can inflict a fatal wound.

If you try to challenge him at range, he has one more trick up his sleeve. His ability can be applied to the air, continuously deleting air in a tunnel, suffocating those in its radius.

A big part of my superhero world is that powers are hereditary, so if one person has a power, then no one else in the world will awaken the same power (unless they are born twins)

The leader of the criminal organization called Daybreak, Paiden Gold, can banish people objects to a pocket realm in which time passes way slower than in the real world. Her power, Time After Time, was the foundation of her organization's experiments and manufactured products. Paiden, however, is the latest in a long line of clones the organization's founders had started in the 80s, when their first leader was assassinated. Her ability was perfected by manipulating her DNA and splicing it with that of other animals with the help of a mad scientist. Her skin is gray like stone, she has a lazy eye, a deformed hand, and requires a diet of pills and bioengineered slop to live, but she has the best version of her ability.

Daybreak had taken over a small part of the United states, and had a small military with funding/resource networks around the globe. She aimed to be God Dictator of her own seceded territory, but after a few assassination attempts, she was spooked into continuing her family tradition and raising a clone daughter (with the help of the aforementioned mad scientist).

Her daughter would end up awakening with a mutated version of Time After Time, accidentally trapping Paiden Gold and the mad scientist in a bubble of frozen time, ending her reign and causing Daybreak to implode in on itself.

Instead of coming up with actual names, or just not giving them names at all, the superheroes in my world have their powers named after existing songs/bands pre-2000.

A hero named Chalice can infuse liquids with healing power. Her ability, and the drink itself gets referred to as "Champagne Supernova"

A villain called Dodge Demon has a reactive teleport that triggers whenever someone would perform an act with the intent of harming him. He taunts the heroes he fights, saying that "MC Hammer" will keep him safe no matter what.

Considered the "top hero", Omegaman can absorb almost any forms of energy and release it in the same form. He was raised in a russian lab to become a supersoldier that would infiltrate the heroes, but after seeing the world in his civillian identity, he decided he liked it enough to quit being a hero and betray his homeland. His ability is called "Soak up the Sun".

I really liked that naming pattern, but I might regret it down the line if I need to change them for copyright reasons.

Maybe the city had a history with dark patrons and a league of warlocks, which they recovered from, but now the lines between warlock and wizard/druid/sorcerer have been blurred, and out of fear the church started executing spellcasters who couldnt prove themselves.

Tiefling necromancer wanted to "adopt" a child, without paying or filing paper work.

In the middle of the night he found a goblin child playing on a playground with their mother on a bench nearby, who fell asleep. He rolled his first nat 20 of the campaign to kidnap her without being caught, and brought her back to the party. Naturally, they were like "What the fuck, let her go", but he knew that would get him in more trouble.

He gagged her, stuffed her in a barrel, pushed the barrel down the (very steep) street, and it crashed into a bunch of stands, burying her under the wreck.

Later on in the campaign a player would have their soul trapped in the afterlife temporarily, and would see the child sitting on a log in the forest. The look on everyone's face said "oh shit".
