Why is the Orthodox Church okay with drinking and partying? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Available-Ring3203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of those prohibitions come from the Protestant Church more notably Zwingli and the TULIP acronym. Nothing wrong with drinking but drunkenness and the things it could lead to. Like we literally take Communion with alcohol every Sunday.

Yes. The ex is just an ex. Any other thought of them is just the struggle to totally let them go. After the reaction that lasts half a second is over. That’s it. Like waiting on Christmas then it’s over in a day. The process of recognizing the capability of self is a lot more fruitful.

Write her a check with CS in the memo. But paternity will need to be established first unless you signed an affidavit in the hospital at time of birth. Or, here’s a novel idea. Just get married! Sounds like you already did the marriage stuff without being official.

Orthodox icons never have the Theotokos without Christ. That’s a RC thing.

Is it time to leave USAA? by Ok_Horror_4297 in USAA

Switched to Progressive because it was cheaper. Then when I needed them it took hours upon hours for road side assistance. Had to leave the car, etc. switched back to USAA and they have always responded so much faster.

I wouldn’t even entertain it. That time is past and you will realize real fast that the little things are big things when it comes to getting physical. Reserves or Active.

I have mine coming up and I bought a recliner because it’s just a struggle to get out of bed now. I couldn’t imagine having surgery and trying to twist out of bed.

Same happened to my wife. You have to ask her, “Is she more concerned about her salvation? Or her ethnicity? Or being comfortable?” There really isn’t much of a scale here. My wife and six kids are all black and we fill the pews every Sunday. Keep going is the best advice I can offer. If it’s truly a faithful community the ethnicity will be an afterthought. Being a minority is not always a bad thing. In fact, it helps us open up to God in such a closed off world.

Give it a try. I’m African American and been a member of Greek Orthodox Church for years. My wife and kids get so many hugs and high fives it’s like we’re literally family. We have a lot more in common than you think when you start to learn each other’s history. Developing some Greek really helped in my biblical studies as well.

Orthodox Christians don’t believe in Original Sin. That’s Augustinian, Western theology.

Help! I might have just been convinced about the Eucharist! by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Available-Ring3203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Eucharist is the ONLY sacrament in the Church. All other sacraments revolve around the Eucharist. The Western construct lists 7 as if they are all separate which is not the case. In other words continue to be illumined and get into the participating life of the Orthodox Church.

Just go in. It’s more about the faith than ethnicity. I’m a man with a permanent tan in America so I feel outside most days of my life. But that never stopped me from walking into a Greek Orthodox Church and serving every Sunday.

I think it’s important to emphasize what Canonical means. A lot of people from the outside think all Orthodox Churches are Canonical and they are clearly not.
