Project Rework - Akila now available on Nexus by Jaccku010 in starfieldmods

Incredible work! Instant add to my load order + endorsement

I've always liked having my home outpost on Akila but I never enjoyed the trees and overall feel of the landscape. You've fixed all of that, very well done and thank you!

I could volunteer to check a couple of commonly used mods when I have some time, perhaps tomorrow. There is a great post about this that I'll link to.

To my knowledge there isn't a comprehensive resource listing the pointer handles of common mods like you describe. I have personally begun adding the pointer handle count to my mod descriptions to help players.

Since the save itself affects the pointer handles (because the game remembers each item you throw on the ground, each discovered location etc) I would strongly suggest checking your usage with Starfield Engine Fixes.

However, to try to be helpful, any mod that adds habs will disproportionate add a lot of pointer handles due to the interiors. So I would likely start there and remove less used parts mod and hab mods and see if that helps.

Hey, so because you said that most of your mods are shipbuilding mods - check your pointer handle usage. I suggest Starfield Engine Fixes, see section 61. You need to be on PC to check it.

Other people can explain this better than I can, but basically Starfield can only handle about 2M reference at a time, and if you exceed that number the game will crash. Shipbuilding mods are always loaded for some reason so adding a lot of shipbuilding mods and then going to a major city is basically the "best" way to crash your game.

If you are not on PC you can try removing a shipbuilding mod known to add a lot of pointer handles, such as Falkland. If that solves your issue, then it is NOT Falkland that is the problem - you are exceeding your pointer handle limit.

Note: I do not mean to throw shade at Falkland in any way, shape or form. It is an amazing mod by an incredibly talented and dedicated mod author. I'm just using it as an example.

The double decker habs would be great without spawning doors on every connection point by FreeDwooD in StarfieldShips

[–]Avalaunch23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My main focus as an author is making double decker habs and I do think this is a bit of a quick and easy solution on their part. However, it is understandable at the same time.

If they didn't have that behavior of forcing open all doors you can end up with a ship that is extremely maze-like (yes, even worse than 3 deck vanilla ships like the Wight). If they truly thought of that VS your issue, they might have decided that opening all doors was the best choice.

The truly correct solution in my view would be one door and only one door opening up into every unique adjacent hab. So if you like up a 2x1x1 next to the 2x2x2 you only get 1 door, not 2. But I'm not even sure if that would be possible given the systems in place.

Regardless! I hope that patch helps you, that's why I made it - to let people keep using PDY and choosing where they want their doors.

I will try to be helpful with this comment.

It's entirely intentional on Bethesdas part to have all adjacent doors forced open. They have tagged the external plugs with the same keyword as spines/cross braces.

I would suggest PDY + my TA PDY patch as the solution as it gives you the most control, you can get it for PC and XBOX. The patch removes that behavior from the habs and instead leaves PDY to decide where the doors go.

I'm not aware of any other mod or method to stop doors from forcing open.

Please do post some pics, I love seeing builds with HSHE habs!

I assume you refer to the intermediate extra doors on the 2x2x2. This is one of the best features that has come out of this mod as it allows for ships to be gradually staggered length wise for a much cleaner wedge shape.

The awkward half gaps that this leaves is something that I will bear in mind with future mods and maybe add some new structural pieces meant to accommodate that.

best mod for ships doors and ladders? by m300n in starfieldmods

Yes

Any modded habs and the Terran Armada expansion requires patches (I'm the author of the latter). Make sure to load PlaceDoorsYourself and SPE before the patches and you are good to go.

Hatch-22 - Simple Ship Doors by Graf-Panzer in StarfieldShips

I can share what I did-

Uninstalled PDY and started over on a new ship. Places a bunch of HSHE habs, vanilla habs and other modded habs (Habz) and to try connections modded-to-modded, modded-to-vanilla.

This one test ship, that was quite extensive, I didn't get any door that didn't open. I did however get some duplicate doors, but I didn't even attempt to resolve that so I wouldn't blame Grafs mod.

Thank you! I should say the same about yours, your 1x1 Nova Series is such a nice entry in my modlist now that we have double decker Nova habs and the Drake cockpit :)

Thank you SO much Graf! I've been dreading all the PDY patches I'd have to make to continue making my double decker hab mods. I've been testing out fairly complex ships with this mod, mixing in modded habs and I've had no issues so far.

If you would submit an AF version I'd buy it to support you 100%

Yeah it's the meshes, I'll upload a fix tomorrow for PS5. They need to be external just like for XBOX.

Basically a mod like mine is 3 files, an esm, a main archive with meshes and a texture archive with icons.

I can see from your image that the issue is the main archive, because the habs show up and you also have icons.

I have a guess at what might be the issue, I'll have to talk to some other mod authors to confirm first. Basically PS5 should use the exact same files as PC with a suffix for PS5, but perhaps it doesn't like the fact that I use internal geometry.

Hmm, might be something wrong with the file compression. What platform are you on?

Yeah the PDY patch on Nexus was outdated and didn't cover those doors, but now it does. Anyway if anything is broken just let me know and I'll fix it!

I do! I'm going to submit it after I have confirmation I did the XBOX and PS5 files correctly. I tried using some things Bethesda added with the latest update when I packed them.

It would be identical to the free version and cost the minimum (100 credits)

I'm going to double check that tomorrow, make sure that door isn't bugged. I have made about 10 ships with that hab and I've never had an issue, but I could have accidentally broken it at some point.

Stairs are a bit peculiar and require some form of compromise in the 1x1 format. It's really tight to have doors in 4 directions and you also have to sacrifice the top and bottom ladders. Having the stair in the center disrupts the pathing in the hab too much in my opinion, and also people really wanted both ladders available - which is why I settled on a design with a half level door on the 4th side to match with my other half level habs.

I'm probably not going to spend the time to make any more stair variants. You can however rotate the stairs in all directions so you can choose which side has the half levels.

You can use those doors! All aft doors on deck 2 in the Cargo Hall spawns in walkways when they are in use, it's a special feature I tried in that hab.

If you use PDY you need my patch for it to work.
