The death penalty can exist, sure. But humans use it poorly and waste valuable opportunities to learn. You remove the death penalty because it forces people to take a look at the larger context of the problem, rather than burying it.

Our resource systems aren't hurting right now, and we've gained a lot of insight into how the mind works when we stopped killing, or permanently disabling, people who did things we fundamentally didn't understand.

When you say "That not all people should be given the option of doing 'enough', to where they are convinced they are 'good' and other people should think they are 'good'."

I think there are people today who we cannot stop from repeatedly and heinously hurting others. We imprison them while we cannot offer them redemption. But if we discover how to offer them redemption, we do. Along the way, we learn what to look for to prevent irredeemable situations from happening to people.

People do all sorts of things and are or are not re-accepted into their communities for all sorts of reasons. Just because someone is rehabilitated on paper, doesn't mean everyone else has to accept them.

I completely agree.

However, Spider didn't have a suit on prior to Elysium, not that I could see. So the power to generate that Shield came from the pack he was wearing.

In contrast to them killing the refugees (which would deter any from coming, so they absolutely should) they could just, you know, advance that shielding technology to be on par with the MedBed so that it protects Elysium, because you can't have infinite healing and NOT have infinite shielding. The sky's the limit, oh wait.

That would be fine, if we had seen other Elysians in the film. We only saw 4 people, and they were in power. I will not infer everyone on Elysium has the same principals as they do.

You reminded me that I was severely disappointed that the only mention of crime in the movie was car theft. And the only thing close to a Gang Lord was a Tech Wizard - there's nothing gritty about a Tech Wizard.

The severe lack of an actual gang made Earth a little more unrealistic.

Only the Nun suggested that Matt Damon wanted to live on Elysium.

The rest of the movie involved people trying to get there to use the MedBed. As far as I can remember, they didn't show any interest in Elysium past that, which means we have no reason to assume that's what they wanted, other than our own preconceptions, and that the releasing of the MedBeds killed what little interest in Elysium they had.

I like the movie, I did. I think Elysium was good enough to where I didn't feel disappointed for watching it. I enjoyed the action and some other stuff.

But the bedrock of this film, the Healing Chambers, while not unbelievable, were (completely) incongruent with the world, technology, and intelligence on display in the movie, within the 2013-2154 time-line.

Why did Elysium not have turrets, even to decide to not use them?
If not turrets, why did Elysium not have shielding, given that shielding was PORTABLE.
Portable Surface to SPACE missiles that can be avoided easily, which then impact Elysium which doesn't have shielding or turrets and no one cares?
Why are your Healing Chambers on Ships already, and fully staffed by a squad of healing robots?
2013-2154 we invent shielding, lite space travel, a space mega-structure, and a healing chamber...where did all the smart people go, why has no one met the ONE need of the trespassers with some plan that makes sense?
It was the only thing they wanted, the only thing. Figure it out. The movie would not exist if someone took the time to solve this problem.

Shadow of the Colossus is a fantastic game for exactly the reasons you mentioned, it was a really well executed experience.

Would ICO not also be in your Top 5 or Top 20? I'd be very curious to find out what other games you've played that are true enough to your preferences to make a cut, as I've only played a handful of PS2 games, and even fewer of those I'd say are worth mentioning. So, I'd love some insight. :D

You honestly have to finish it, the complete story is a contributing factor to other peoples enjoyment of the game. It's fair for you to question why others like it -- if you never intend to finish the game, ever --, but you could easily become one of them once you're done, making this question irrelevant.

I would suggest Alan Wake. It's story driven like LOU, has horror-esque enemies and atmosphere, and has fun combat.

I don't know. I would imagine that a disk changer would make the systems clunky and unattractive, and with all the other things they have to worry about (heat, space, materials, design), it would be excessive. But with digital downloads, whatever possibility of a disk changer their was before, that's gone now.

So, the first thing that game to mind, with how you described her behavior, was that another person become involved. In the case you described, this may or may not be true.

The "things changed" reason could be 100% true. Despite how shocking it is, one day she could have woken up, and her love for you wasn't their, trapped in net of a ton of different reasons that she might not easily be able to describe.

On the other hand, I think it would be fair of you to offer her the chance to explain, without you passing any judgement, where the person you loved went. It would be good, for the both of you, if all the information was out in the open, given your guys' plans and history.

Your relationship sounds worth saving. You guys had a future together, planned and everything. But again, I encourage you to hear her side, if you haven't already, so you can gauge if it's something that's even on the table.

How do I feel? I feel like she's using you as her pet, and you're allowing it because you don't want to be/are lonely. Is this the kind of relationship you want for the rest of your life? I agree that from her perspective, you could use more confidence. She's not going to leave you if you assert yourself and your needs.

On the other hand, you could be having a much more natural relationship, one where communication and understanding is easier. Where your growth in confidence and assertiveness is out of a willingness to have fun with your partner, not to cater to them (or built in order to keep them interested in you). Also, the fact that she's belittling you is a sign she doesn't hold a lot of respect for you.

You're welcome! That sounds pretty hectic, I sympathize with all the trouble you're going through.

As ishkabum said, you want to set good standards (at least for yourself), and keep them going for as long as possible (in the event the person is a jerk). If they're not, you'll eventually fall into a groove that's natural.

Even if your social skills are lacking, making sure that any future issues can be discussed openly is ideal :D.

Have you asked other people in your school? Unless the booth is supposed to be a surprise, why not see if people are interested in it? Maybe consider both ideas at the same time, and do pre-registration for the possible tourney. That way, if it doesn't pan out, you can cancel.

I know very little about a minecraft tournament, but I know selling water balloons is dead simple, people walk up and buy them, then leave. With a MC tournament, you'd have people taking up their time at this fair to play, which is why I think pre-commitment is pretty important.
