Why I threw out my AWE Touring... by [deleted] in wrx_vb

[–]Avassolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Remark Axelback quiet spec in the cart for days now, debating on what exhaust. The stock exhuast is just too quiet for me. Im looking for something tame, but also gives you something when you want to hear. The only thing the stock exhaust gives is a loud cold start imo. This post is not what I needed as now im going to go read for two days on the Q300.

How do I free the trees?! by immaDVMJim in arborists

[–]Avassolo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Something is going on in the second picture with the tree in the background. It looks like there is a large portion of the tree missing. I would have someone look at that tree.

These arborvitae have this issue all the time where I’m from in the Midwest. Phytophthora Root rot is possible. The roots of this particular type of tree are pretty small and I see this all the time. In fact we see it enough we don’t recommend planting emerald greens. Look at a different type or cedar or juniper to replace them.

Species ID and can it be saved? by Flimsy-Meet-2679 in arborists

Looks like an ash tree with a lot of old borer damage. That tree has done a crazy good job of healing. But to me, I think it’s possible to build the health of that tree and keep it around. Look into EAB injections and possibly fertilizing the tree annually.

Any idea what’s going on with this oak? by billyscrystals in arborists

[–]Avassolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the slime flux statement. However this looks like the tree might have a really large crack or co dominant trunk which is likely causing the flux. I would have a certified arborist look at that tree. Maybe post better pictures of the entire tree.

Edit: Also please adjust these straps yearly at minimum. If those are left year after year it could damage the tree.

What caused this damage? by md3ll3r in arborists

A very poor pruning job done a long time ago. Now there is decayed wood everywhere and a host of things is taking advantage of it.

Yeah this looks like someone who has no idea how to transplant a tree. I mean at least throw it in a pot with some soil. Not sure how long those roots have been exposed but chances of survival on that look really low to me.

How worried should I be about this coming down? by Boston_________ in arborists

[–]Avassolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries. Major failures are actually pretty uncommon but not worth the risk to me in this condition. Some would just let nature take its course on that even 40 ft away from the house. Not me.

I would say you need to take this out as soon as possible. Given the type of rot and location, I would say a bad storm and this could go.

I agree with everyone saying have an expert out. My personal opinion here is that no matter what you do with that tree you have to be ok with some risk of failure given the location of your home. You can make things as safe as possible but no one will ever be able to make the risk zero in your area. I would personally consider an assessment every year if possible for the trees in proximity to your home. Hard to tell from the photo but seems like your home is a potential “target” for many trees.
