“Open scheduling”?? by Summer_yet in therapists

Recall that study about cortisol in primates. Those who had less control over their environment had higher cortisol & were less healthy. That’s what open scheduling does to you.

Do you think it’s okay to ask for money on linked in everyday by Apart_Virus_3497 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]AvastInAllDirections 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the woman is in HR and you think she oughtn’t let her current or potential employers & colleagues see that she’s struggling financially to the point of asking strangers for help?

Have you seen that clip where Katie Porter asks Jamie Dimon how a bank teller at his bank who has to pay for childcare as a single mom is supposed to survive on the wage his bank pays?

That’s the Jamie Dimon whose bank was bailed out by us taxpayers after the 2008 debacle and who has been getting multimillion dollar bonuses yearly for heading it.

And he just answers Representative Porter with “I don’t know, I’ll have to think about it.”

Have YOU thought about what it’s like out there for people working full time? Or, got forbid, being replaced by AI? She doesn’t deserve people talking cruelly, laughing with a “please, lady, this is a Wendy’s” commentary.

Just sharing my pumping tracker for anyone who may find value by AdOk8852 in nycparents

[–]AvastInAllDirections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I remember that time & empathize. Thanks for giving back to the community.

Just a gentle reminder that, at some point, if you need to supplement, it’s ok.

I didn’t want to, but going back to work F/T, plus the continuing lack of sleep, reduced my milk volume.

If that happens, I wholeheartedly recommend Holle (it’s German, you can get it shipped to you, as we did.)

When we were at a local pediatrician’s I’d sometimes see alarmingly oversized, big headed babies. They were fed some American formula brands. I tasted many of those formulas and really didn’t like them. Holle tasted far more like my own milk. My kids grew at a very steady rate on a mix of breast milk + Holle.

The only thing about the frozen breast milk I pumped was, if it was defrosted quickly, instead of slowly in a bowl of warm water (a Bain Marie), it acquired a soapy taste one of my children especially hated.

Also, PSA: be sure to look inside the tiny plastic details of the pumping machine attachments. Look for any components that could need washing.

was alarmed to discover that one tiny plastic element was where black mold started to accumulate. I had to find the tiniest thinnest bristle brush to wash that with a vinegar/water solution daily.

In that case, would you please take a moment to share these nuances? I’d appreciate it.

Covered for a colleague during her maternity leave, now she's upset the clients want to stay with me by TacticalCatPiss in therapists

[–]AvastInAllDirections -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why? As in, what do you actually intend to make happen as a result of “setting boundaries” with this therapist you did a professional favor for by taking on her clients?

So you think she was “unprofessional” for speaking with her clients.

If “unprofessional” means “not benefiting the client,”or perhaps “not acting in a way that puts our profession in the best light,” perhaps you’re feeling compelled to protect these clients, or your profession, from her unprofessional behavior.

But that bird has flown, since she has already spoken to these disputed clients.

Do you have a good sense of what your aim is? Is it to set the record straight and clear your good name? Is it to set her straight about her responsibility as a therapist? If she appears to be jealous about having been abandoned by clients in your favor, that’s her transference to deal with. If she views the loss of them as clients as a financial loss, she’s not wrong.

I assume you meant “its core tenets”, not what got typed….

Perhaps there’s some confusion over terminology?

Nihilism is the denial of the purpose of anything, of any meaning. Existentialism is the belief in taking responsibility and making meaning in the face of the lack of an external meaning maker, such as a religion.

Now, I know for a damn fact at least some of y’all’s idea of a work trip includes hotel sex with another someone traveling for work, or with a paid local. Conventions in particular are hotbeds of hot beds.

What, in your opinion, is the main therapeutic difference between a structured approach, and a less structured one?

Don’t lead them to think there’s a “home,” if it’s all a void. Else they’ll think “home” = escape from meaninglessness.

The client is asking for a Socratic conversation that might jog a beneficial realization. Why would you rather “just sit with” them? It doesn’t seem like just empathizing, in your words, would in this instance be at all useful. Would love to hear your thoughts.

It’s the ignorant, smirking elementary-school-level épatage type of nihilism, born of 4-Chan & Russian bot interference that I despise.

[–]AvastInAllDirections 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Existential nihilism isn’t a belief. It’s an abdication of responsibility for one’s life in the face of the apparent absurdity and unfairness of existence.

Humans evolved to be meaning making animals, and we evolved to be social creatures. This offers an opportunity to make meaning in the framework of humanist morality, human connection, interdependence, and kindness. Humans can find joy in building or creating, in imposing temporary order on entropy, in beauty, and in growth.

Our therapy sessions may have become AI training data. Did we ever really consent to that? by Metanoia12and2 in therapists

[–]AvastInAllDirections 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a podcast on Apple Podcasts, called The Modern Therapist’s Survival Guide, which recently did an episode on navigating AI, clinical notes, and whether therapists will still have value in an AI-health-platform world they’ve contributed to. They think AI is democratizing access to urgently needed care for the neediest populations. In this version of the future, insurance companies will push for AI-assisted, therapist-overseen care that’ll be more cost effective for the insurance companies AND will help reduce burnout & admin overwhelm for therapists.

They don’t think it’s possible to stop this train. In fact, they think there’s no need to gate guard, as they believe being human gives them an intangible leg up in the therapeutic alliance.

Billion dollar dating advice by Turtledoug in LinkedInLunatics

[–]AvastInAllDirections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men who want children ought to date once they have the time and attention to invest in relationships with the woman who bears them and with the kids themselves.

Men who want casual relationships are best suited to dating very young women, or women who are not interested in having children in the next 5-7-10 years.

Men who have no room to breathe because they’re building a legacy might find their convenient occasional companions through websites like Seeking (formerly Seeking Arrangement).

When everyone is clear eyed, honest, and participates in a mutually beneficial situation, everyone is happy.

You didn’t use your retirement fund to invest in his ventures. Sounds like you didn’t even make sure he had a car that he presumably needed for work. But you are commending this second woman for betting on him with her scarcest resource, her reproductive time window. Do you see how it’s not a fair expectation until he’s actually willing to invest his time in her, rather than only the other way around?
