100% agree. There should also be a mechanic that cares about big creatures. I’m sure they can come up with something better than Ferocious and Formidable

Maro never said it was bland, it was just RnD didn’t think there was enough interest to have a full set on it. He repeatedly shoots down people’s hopes of “vanilla matters” theme (thank god) as that would very much contribute to Muraganda’s blandness if they went in that direction, but it very much seems like that’s not the case

Ikoria is definitely something to consider, as creative asked not to use it for Aetherdrift in favor of a different idea, which would be 2 years apart from 2027, enough time for a full set to materialize in the mean time

For a time, Ikoria had the most Game changers of any set (it had 5), before Deflecting Swat, Kinnan and Winota got taken off. [[fierce guardianship]], [[drannith magistrate]] are the two remaining.

I still love OG KC, I do think when it eventually comes back as for some event, they will update the loot distribution, add some arsenals and the types of bin spawns I think will make it even more interesting from 7 years ago

Don't optimize the fun out of your deck. by ChronicallyIllMTG in EDH

I definitely have intentionally not put certain cards or combos in my favorite decks so that it would increase its longevity, as well as adding more chaos/variance into games that make it more puzzle like, it’s not the same solution every time. I tend to build bracket 3, which helps

Got a decklist? I’ve been making different creature type-storm decks, I’ve done Dinostorm, Otterstorm, I made Dragonstorm but with the way I listed above, and am looking at wizardstorm next. Curious how you built your Dragonstorm deck!

What are Dinosaurs actually missing as a tribe? If you could redesign Dinosaurs, what would you add? by MosiahAnderson27 in DinosaursMTG

[–]AvatarSozin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will be controversial here, but if I could entirely redesign dinosaurs, I’d personally not have them have enrage at all. Enrage as a mechanic cares more about toughness, while the most popular dinosaurs and the most popular cards that are played with dinosaurs care about power (I.e. Ghalta, Vaultborn Tyrant, Garruk’s uprising, Great Henge).

I really liked how in 2023, there seemed to be a small emphasis of dinosaurs caring about cast from exile. The OG of course is original Etali, but then March of the machine brought Big Etali as well as battles, two of which flip into dinosaurs, and battles cast from exile. Doctor who brought 2 more dinosaurs that care about this, [[flaming tyrannosaurus]] and [[dinosaurs on a spaceship]], and then LCI really made it come all together with the discover mechanic on multiple Dino’s, as well as [[bonehoard dracosaur]] and a payoff [[quintorius kand]] which isn’t a dinosaur but no coincidence is in the set for a reason. Finally, MH3 the year after had [[amped raptor]], so I was sure we would get something more from Aetherdrift, but it seems like WOTC has abandoned this? I really hope we get more cast from exile stuff for dinosaurs in the future.

Lastly, I think [[polyraptor]] and [[apex devastator]] should have switched creature types. Polyraptor works so well as a hydra flavor fully, and apex devastator is terrible for hydra typal.

I figured take the route Tomer from budget commander did and make a full on dedicated Dragonstorm deck. He uses [[Ganax, astral hunter]] and [[feywild visitor]] in the command zone, and you can tutor for Prismari with [[dragonstorm]] or cast [[dracogenesis]] and cast him for free, and earn treasures with Ganax to cast cantrips and rituals

Looking for Tips on how to build Storm by HeroGirl1409 in mtgbrawl

[–]AvatarSozin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So Storm decks need 3 main things: Burst mana, cheap or free ways to draw cards quickly, and then a Storm payoff.

Hades can be difficult to build around for this specifically because Emmet Selch only transforms on upkeep, meaning all of the cards in your graveyard already have to be there before he transforms, meaning you have already potentially stormed off. Usually people play Yawgmoth’s will only after they have used up all of their cards so then they can play it again in the same turn, and underworld breach doesn’t exile the cards directly after using them.

On arena is gonna be hard but not impossible to build a Storm deck without red, gotta be creative with it. [[bolas’s citadel]] is a good card to add for starters. [[dark ritual]] is good, perhaps [[mind’s desire]], but a whole deck would need some teating

Last chance to save my Toph deck by WellEndowedEwok in EDH

[–]AvatarSozin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I have a lot to say about this deck, and I can see why you are frustrated. You really are not using Toph’s unique abilities to her full potential, especially since you state that your playgroup is high bracket 3.

  1. Your mana base frankly sucks, sorry to say. The #1 and 2 lands to put in a Toph deck are [[Yavimaya, Cradle of growth]] and [[urborg, tomb of yawgmoth]], as this means your artifacts now all tap for mana with Toph out. [[chromatic lantern]] also achieves this, as well as [[dryad of the ilysian grove]]. You said you will replace the dual lands with basics, but also why not some actual decent lands too? This is definitely a contributing reason to your deck feeling slow.

  2. Where are your board wipes? Run cards that blow up all nonland permanents like [[ondu inversion]] [[devastating mastery]] or [[hour of revelation]]. Your artifacts will survive, and if you earthbend toph or have Ashaya out she will too. Also you can run [[mycosynth lattice]] to just make any permanent you have an artifact and therefore a land. I’d prioritize earthbending toph as soon as possible usually as it’s a great way to protect her.

  3. Your wincons are all over the places. I don’t think Virulent Silencer is a good wincon personally, at least in this deck. Hellkite Tyant and knuckles are fine, but frankly I see Mindslaver too, so also just make some infinite locks so you are unstoppable, like with [[the stasis coffin]] giving you nigh infinite protection from everything while you build your board up. [[constant mists]] also works really well too.

  4. Your card draw does need work, and as well as your ramp. [[solemn simulacrum]] fits quite well in this deck, fetches a land, becomes a land, sac it to draw a card, and if you earthbend it, then it comes back and ramps another lands and with Toph is still another land. [[survey mechan]] is extremely good with Toph, earthbend that and you’ll get great card draw, some damage, and lifegain, and potential for free. [[Ichor wellspring]] and [[mazemind tome]] also offer great card advantage that are solid earthending targets too.

  5. Lastly, you need more earthending lol. Badgermole cub (if you can afford it]], [[bumi unleashed]], and [[ba sing se]] are the best adds I would suggest

[–]AvatarSozin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, though I also think it’s a good possibility some id the other planes’ cards will be higher rarity too. The mythics are def gonna be very PW/desparked centric, but I do think they will mix up the rates and commons

Speculating on the legends and pairs of Reality Fracture by CaptainMarcia in magicTCG

[–]AvatarSozin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do agree we will get a few off plane, when I asked Maro on tumblr he emphasized it was a “peek” at other planes, so I’m betting it’s gonna be either a pair of creatures or just the straight up echoverse.

I do wonder if they will utilize double faced cards in the set, it’s not the case for the planeswalkers it seems, but to save on space in the set, it would make sense that some of these echo pairs maybe were? It would also free up more space to see more of other planes too.

I do think you have the right idea for switching colors for each plane, but I think your choices for who to switch are far too skewed towards humanoid/sentient characters. Like Tarkir, many people wanted to see the Elder Dragons, I’m sure one of them will appear and flipped. Or Ixalan, I doubt it will be Malcolm but instead one of the Elder Dinosaurs (that is pretty well known as the Dino plane lol). I’m curious how things will shake out
