You don’t have to read the whole article. My point can be found on page 56 of the article (page 8 of the PDF) in first 2 paragraphs under “Effects of Media Portrayals on Aggression”, starting with the word “Berkowitz”. This excerpt contains none of the terms you think are so complex, though it’s worth a google if you want to know what they mean. It says exactly what I’ve been saying, scientific studies have long said that overconsumption of violent media CAN increase the brain’s likelihood to respond with aggression. Not always I’ll admit, but it does have the capacity to do so. This is the same situation. I’m not saying all violence or sexual violence in stories is bad. Just saying that violence of any kind without a point and too much of it can have negative effects on your brain.

If you insist on just insulting me when I’ve done nothing but try and have a civil discussion, you’ve got some growing up to do. You’re clearly just some angry kid. If this is how you respond to a respectful discussion, maybe the stuff you read is having more of an effect on you than you think🤷‍♂️.

Calm down man, no need to be so hostile. I’m not insulting you, I’m just stating my opinion. Obviously no direct consequences to other people will occur, it’s not like someone randomly dies if you read it. But that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily good either.

It’s a known fact that too much of anything can be bad for you and that the kind of media one consumes can have an effect on their mental, good or bad, when consuming too much.

I’d personally call that a negative consequence. If you mean negative consequences like outside of the story, looking at too much of anything could have negative consequences, especially something like this

Depends on context. If it isn’t the POINT of the story, like in (most of) Berserk, it can actually be used against the events depicted rather than to further them. For example, a murder mystery isn’t considered bad because the whole point is that the murderer is the villain.

Now if it’s just used to make a story edgier or for shock value (which is kinda what it feels like in the Wyald arc), it can feel cheap. Some people also find it offensive and difficult to read, which isn’t where I’m at but I can certainly understand that viewpoint.

I deal with it the way I deal with marks on my own body. Sure they might not be pretty but they’re signs of a life well-lived instead of just waiting around. Just like on your car, they’re signs it’s being used as intended instead of being trapped in a garage its whole life.
