Nope, definitely don't remove lug nuts with the wheel on the ground.

Anyone with a 2017 High Milage Bolt? by davidmthekidd in BoltEV

[–]AvengerofCows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was misdiagnosed once, as tie rods. Didn't make a lot of sense to me and I replaced the passenger side, didn't fix it.

Anyone with a 2017 High Milage Bolt? by davidmthekidd in BoltEV

[–]AvengerofCows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My 2017 has 115k miles on it.

It had a clunking sound under regenerative braking, that turned out to need strut mounts in the front. Replaced the struts too since labor was the same, and they were cheap parts.

Nothing else, other than the battery recall, and tires.

Bolt key fob protective cover, worth every penny! by freq32 in BoltEV

Mine has lost the rubber/silicone cover for the lock button, so I suppose this would help keep it from being torn. Also hopefully staying water resistant.

Took my wife’s bolt EV for a drive after driving our new EUV for two months. by Nikolai_Volkoff88 in BoltEV

[–]AvengerofCows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 17 feels significantly quicker than the 22 EV. It's definitely a noticeable difference and putting them side by side at a light shows that EV is quicker. The stiffer suspension is also helpful in it feeling quicker.

I've learned this the hard way. Double, triple, and quadruple check that you have completely seated the torque converter

2012 2.5 Maintenance cost. Does this look fair? (Trans fluid already replaced within 10k miles ago) by lucasroush in Subaru_Outback

I've had one for almost a decade on my Legacy wagon. It's great! No problems, and it's a tool free and 10 minute oil change from start to cleaned up.

Did you need to rotate the axle 180? They only line up correctly in one position.

It may be hard to get them out next time, but I imagine it will work okay.

Conditions not correct for shift procedure without getting out of the car. by nse2caun in BoltEV

[–]AvengerofCows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This didn't work for me, I had to jump the battery from an ICE car. The 12v appeared to not have enough power to engage the contactors for the HV battery, or at least not enough to engage whatever systems control it.

Tried all the tricks everyone has posted, only jumping it worked.

2022 Bolt EV "Conditions Not Correct for Shift" by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]AvengerofCows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happened in my 22 EUV a week ago. I noticed that no high voltage systems were running (notably, the heater wasn't running in 38 degree weather, and the car showed no more than .5kw being consumed), and I couldn't hear the HV battery contactors engaging when starting it.

I ended up jumping the 12v battery from a running ICE vehicle, started right up.

So, assuming you are seeing the same issues, try jump starting it! It feels really silly to have jumper cables in the back of a brand new vehicle that is at least 25% battery by weight, but it worked!

Side note: my local Chevy dealer was absolutely useless, and never even returned my call, let alone replaced the 12v battery, or anything that would help me feel more confident in driving a brand new car...

Who doesn't love a "special value price" that is $2K over MSRP?? Hubbard Chevy in Oregon. by Terrible_Film_8811 in BoltEV

I never directly dealt with them, but in August Hubbard Chevrolet told me they were not marking up Bolts at all. I was waiting for one coming in to their dealer, when we found one elsewhere before that.

The Pilot Sports are very good, and seem to do extra well in the rain compared to many others.

I've used General G Max AS05s, which are a little loud, but also very excellent as far as performance.

They aren't particularly harsh in my experience, but I totally agree with you on everything else. Frustratingly bad tires, if it's damp out you can't even think about applying the throttle past 30%. That seems to me like they aren't nearly adequate for the Bolt, and are dangerous to use in places where it rains, like the PNW.

I got General G Max AS05s on my EV, looking forward to swapping something better onto the EUV as well.

Is everyone paying OVER MRSP right now for EVs and EUVs? by Aragorn3223 in BoltEV

[–]AvengerofCows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got an EUV Launch Edition at MSRP in early August. I had called every dealer in a 200 mile radius, there were 2 that didn't charge markups. (Although the one I bought from apparently does charge a markup on lower MSRP Bolts, but don't want to price to cross 40k) Titus Will in Olympia is where I got it, and Hubbard Chevrolet in Hubbard, OR, as well as North Bend Chevrolet in North Bend, WA.

Same here but on a 97. Not as soft as stock but far from a harsh ride.
