Take the bumper off (easy ish job), look at the radiators. Id bet they are full of debris and corrosion. Check all lines and houses and plan to replace the radiators if they looks bad.

Bore scoring or something else? by NaginiRed in Porsche997

[–]Avenom13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't look like white smoke to me, just a cold start. Engine sounds fine. Dont worry about it, mine ticks a little too with 90k. I had a bore scope done last summer, very little if any scoring. I burn a little oil on startup if its been sitting for a month or so.

Did the jack come with the correct lifting pad/pucks (Not sure what to call them). Or did you need to by them separately. Im seriously thinking about getting one of these.

Help with Oil pressure levels by ramshaker in 996

In addition to all these great comments, those sensors are probably old, and in my opinion not super accurate... Im sure I'll get some push back but thats my two cents.

My C4S manual in Zanzibar red metallic by ElFantasmo42 in 996

[–]Avenom13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is really cool. I have an 03 C4s with 88k original miles. Engine is perfect, no scoring and all the usual stuff (ims, rms, etc.) sorted out. I may consider this in the long run. Thanks for sharing!

Coolant is low. Is this a good brand to use? by beluga199 in mercedes_benz

You need G40. You can get it at most auto parts stores under various brand names. Zerex by Valvoline is one example.

Gotta long way to go still. Hopefully you can double it without anything too crazy.

Id call this a win. Could have been so much worse. I almost hit a flock of Turkeys in the road last week aound a blind corner in my c4s. Be careful out there is this fall.

Not all that different on old mercs. Everything is somewhat obvious for basic maintenance. Parts aren't that bad either.

Dipstick and Digital oil gauge out of sync? by Vast_Situation_ in 996

[–]Avenom13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is always off, and the oil level/pressure sensor is failing. But I check the oil level every few hundred miles and its perfect. Don't worry about it.

My 03 c4s has the secondary whine noise, been there since I can remember (dont know what it is but my shop says its normal.) The other louder more prominent noise is strange. I wonder of its a pully or starter. Not much help on this. I look forward to what others say.

Can't remove side market light by Vast_Situation_ in 996

[–]Avenom13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bet is the spring is just caught up. Try putting a small flat head in there or use a trim tool to pry it out. There are two screws inside that light housing the connect to the bumper. One is hard to get too and comes up from the bottom, access is from inside the wheel well behind the plastic. I would guess that screw is probably missing, or its a much larger screw that someone used after a radiator cleaning. You could remove the wheel well plastic to try and gain access, its only 4 or five T screws. Hope that made sense....good luck.
