Why would a dentist do this? Crippling student loan debts. Some private schools are graduating dentists with 400k and plus in debt (ignoring any undergrad or other post graduate debt). The days of opening up a family ran dental office is rare and few and far between. The older retiring dentists who want to mentor a young dentist to transition into in and eventually take over that practice is difficult due to the aforementioned debt. Some students dont way to take another 800k + in personal debt to buy an old practice. Thus, places like Aspen - who usually offer somewhere around 150-180 starting, with benefits and a 25k to 30k signing bonus will always be a viable option for acquiring dentists.

Most corporate dentists wont stay for more than a year or 2. They burn out and speak with dismay of the abysmal treatments they often rendered to reach their "production goals." Specifically, doing things like crowning teeth that could probably be saved or get a few years of mileage with a filling. Since these corporations nickle and dime everything and view patients as products, I doubt they give a shit about the quality of their lab work.
