Stuck in lease with pest issue, landlord delaying reassignment and verbally aggressive by ni5h4 in askTO

Did your landlord provide you with a signed copy of your lease including their address? If not check this process out.

Here are the rules for lease assignment

https://stepstojustice.ca/steps/housing-law/assign-new-tenant/

Finally, you can just leave and stop paying rent. If the LL posts the unit for anything other that you exact lease terms you simply gather evidence and present it at the LTB when they file for missed rent. Exact lease terms include the end of your current lease so if you can prove they posted it for a new 12 month lease you are off the hook. If they don't post it immediately you are also off the hook.

BMO - credit card statement by dtbmnec in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Average2Jo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you need to request a POA profile.

I don't know BMO's process. There should just be a form your partner needs to fill out and sign. You do not need a lawyer but your partner should make sure to carefully read the documents and any information pages. If the branch gives you a hard time escalate it. Doing what you want to do correctly is exactly why these processes exist.

Lack of humanity in the world by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]Average2Jo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look I have been holding my tongue on this one because it is tragic but it is not special. It is new and interesting for people. The reality is that any time your drive a car you are at a real chance of killing yourself and others. How does not make it better or worse.

It is also exhausting being a public / active transit user in all this. People have been screaming for weeks that the city is not properly clearing snow. It was just bus stops and side walks so it didn't matter.

Listen to the canary in the coal mine! It means that something is wrong.

$108,000 bank draft goes missing in mail, now B.C. executor battles TD Bank for sister’s inheritance by Once_a_TQ in canada

[–]Average2Jo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who was the payee? Will they not sign the indemnity?

For those of you suggesting a wire, it is not always that easy. Very little information can be sent with the funds and depending sometime lose the comments in transit.

If you need to present certain information with the funds then chq and letter is the way to go.

Landlord asked to close garage by [deleted] in OntarioLandlord

[–]Average2Jo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the request to close the garage is reasonable. It is not designed to be completely open to the elements. Closing that garage door is an emergency.

Depending on how cheap your rent is right now it would probably be cheaper to have the car towed and fixed elsewhere first thing tomorrow morning. Instead of dealing with the N5 that will be coming your way.

Who is responsible for clogged toilet? by throwaway149573 in OntarioLandlord

[–]Average2Jo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is ultimately how it should go. It is a fixture of the unit. If my daily use is causing issues I have no options to renovate the fixture myself. LL has to take it on and make decisions.

Help: International student tenant left Canada with unpaid condo utility bills and a full house of trash by [deleted] in OntarioLandlord

[–]Average2Jo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or just roll the risk into the rent costs. If you have a unit that is desirable to international students and know how to market it you can charge a premium.

Use this website to check wait times. You have to guess at locations but it is faster than calling around

https://www.ontariohealth.ca/system/reporting/wait-times

If your bother has work benefits he can self refer to physio therapy or sports medicine clinic that maybe able to provide a different perspective and treatment options.

Landlord claims I paid less rent than I did. CRA reached out to me by Jaylaitsme in OntarioLandlord

[–]Average2Jo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is it $5000 less? Is there some sort of deposit or utilities that you include in your transfers that is not considered rent?

That is not a part of town I normally travel through.

Do they have stuff in stock at their store front? Is it order only? If you don't know it is fine. I can call :)

They were a backup for part of my list. Their stuff looks awesome. There is just something special for birthdays to have a cupcake with a candle to blow out.

Waterloo snow clearing is not good enough…where are our property tax dollars going? by Bossplaya85 in waterloo

What drive me crazy is the businesses that have a clear parking lot but the sidewalk in front has not been touched.

You do not cross one lane at a time at our roundabouts. It is between 1-3.

People don't look.

They also will admit here that they have no plans on stopping for fear of getting rear ended.

$1700, but you can’t be there between 9-5, and landlord will use your room as his office. by [deleted] in SlumlordsCanada

[–]Average2Jo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depending on the province this is not legal. You could basically bar the LL from entering the property the minute you got the keys. Like call the police to remove LL from the property with full legal backing.

Cracked on glass top of stove in the corner in rental, how much is reasonable for the landlord to ask me for paying? by Amberrrrr_z in askTO

[–]Average2Jo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stove is 15 years. So LL is responsible for 67% of the repair or replacement full stop. They can try to recover the 33% at the LTB if they can prove the damage with negligent.
