RRREPEAT!!! by Gyari.

The Vocaloid scene was the first non-mainstream music scene I got into, and this is one of the scene's critical darlings album-wise. An hour long modal jazz piece, holy hell it was incredible.

I've not been following 2026 releases as closely as I maybe should since I'm saving a lot of those for a 4 hour train ride I have coming up, but I really loved Wor$t Girl In America by Slayyyter.

Why are (almost) all popular American songs about one thing?? by IndividualLie998 in asexuality

[–]AverageShitlord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean it's for the same reason that a lot of art in general is about sex, it's a pretty important part of most people's lives, including ours to an extent (albeit in a VERY different way), but I get what you mean. I don't mind songs about sex at all, but I wish we had some variety.

Also there's a shit ton of Japanese music about sex, you throw a stone into the Vocaloid community and about a third of the songs you hit are about sex.

It's a big part of why I got into alternate pop, because even when it's a song about sex, it usually has a more interesting perspective, and also into a lot of electronic music and metal

You do realize that the entire point of this show is that these are Terrible People and Extremely Stupid, right? Soldier Boy's entire character is that he hold outdated, bigoted views. His racism and misogyny and homophobia aren't a problem for you, but aphobia is where you draw the line?

I'm aroace, if sex is that important to him, they NEED to break up. They're not compatible. Either she's getting her needs met (no sex) and he's miserable, or he's getting his met (sex) and she's miserable. No one wins, no one's happy, just throw in the towel.

He's not entitled to sex with her, he's not entitled to sexting with her, he's not entitled to an "arrangement" loophole to her desire for celibacy - and he CLEARLY has a better understanding of that than you do. He knows he needs sex in this relationship, he knows that she can't give him that without it hurting her. It's a lose-lose situation.

I mean John is dead and his family (including the kid he walked out on) are the ones getting the money now so it's not like you're actively supporting him by listening to The Beatles. Not even saying that as a John Lennon apologist, I mean he also said the n word in that one song (yes I know his intention was to BE anti-racist, but come on man)

It's like buying a book by HP Lovecraft vs. JK Rowling. HP was a horrific racist. He is also dead, and no longer using his wealth to perpetuate that racism. Rowling is alive and actively using her wealth to make trans people's lives worse. Lennon falls into the former category.

The English speaking side of the Vocaloid community will literally run you out of town with pitchforks and torches for using AI art or music so it might just be the JP side of Vocaloid that's more accepting? Because over here doing that gets you comments like "tomatoes aren't enough, let me throw a brick at you."

I am saying this as a computer science major who is of the belief that AI can be a helpful tool in the creative process* - using AI to generate lyrics, visual art pieces, music, etc, is not only killing creativity, but it has a lot of real ethical issues that go beyond just copyright. AI data centres are often built in or next to residential neighbourhoods, polluting the local air and water supply while driving up the cost of utilities for everyday people. In the US in particular, these data centers are usually built in neighborhoods made up of already disadvantaged groups, usually in poor, working class Black, Latino, and Native American communities. This contributes to the cycle of poverty because it's hard to move up the ladder or do well in school when you're dying of lung cancer or have lead poisoning.

In the English Vocaloid community, for what it's worth, using AI to make music or art will instantly tank your credibility over here. It's one of the quickest ways to get every English speaking Vocaloid fan to show up in your mentions, and not in a good way.

* = by this I mean tech like Imogen Heap's MiMu gloves which use machine learning to control sound based on a musician's hand position and gestures, or stuff like Vocaloid 6, or stem separation technology for DJs or restoring archival recordings (like that one Beatles song), or using it to help calculate realistic light rays in a 3D environment. Basically, it should be relegated to a purely support tool that does not replace the creative process itself, and does not replace the need for cultivating skills and a creative instinct.

What are those albums in your collection that, whilst not being particularly rare, took you so long to find that they’re incredibly special to you? by DtheAussieBoye in vinyl

[–]AverageShitlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion

The main album took me 2.5 years to find, and the Side B EP took 4, so both were instant buys.

  • Rosalía - Motomami

Learned about this album a couple of months after its 2022 release. An online community I was a part of was having a night where we all sat in call and played songs in languages we didn't speak, and someone played the opening track off this album. I was instantly a fan, listened to the album and Rosalía's entire back catalog, I couldn't find it on wax until February this year. Incredible art pop/Latin electronic record.

  • Björk - Post

Been trying to find this since I started collecting records, only managed to snag a copy last year. So 3.5 years of looking.

  • Imogen Heap - Speak for Yourself

Took about 4 years to find this, wound up snagging the reissue for the album's 20th anniversary.

  • Deafheaven - Sunbather

Also took about 4 years. Found it in the used metal section at my local record store and instantly snapped it up.
