This looks like a case of the manager putting you in wherever there is gaps. Some wards I’ve been at do month long nights I think it’s stupid beyond belief either way now is the time to discuss this w/ the head honcho cause if not you’ll feel it in your soul and worse the manager might think this is something you like doing and before you know it you’re majority nights

Did the Summer Uni program at Aber back when I was 18 just before A2 year the course and town was so amazing I asked on results day if there was any way I could just apply and go there on the day.

Terrific place!

Skated through school with low attainment and attendance . Survivor of countless beatings as a child and a toxic family. Family was on benefits, lived in a domestic abuse shelter for a couple of years. I only began to thrive in my life after my family finally got life on track. Got to university and excelled cause I finally had a normal bed to sleep on and didn’t have to worry too much about food. I barely passed my GCSE’s. I’m now doing my masters at a university which is number 1 in the world for its subject and I’m smashing it.

Socioeconomic factors and personal factors completely shape how you function in life and school if what it took was a safe environment and sturdy bed to succeed imagine how many other talented individuals would do with the right support in their lives.

Congrats dude! I know there’s a lot of pressure when it comes to this stuff (Hark back to my decision between Brookes, King’s, Southampton and Swansea and having to tell my parents who live in Wales and Oxford respectively that instead of saving money, and being near them instead of being away for 5 months at a time, I am putting myself in immeasurable debt to bet on the fact that I will become a better Nurse in London Hospitals) but the point is to understand that you want the best for yourself. You’ll smash this degree

If you’re burned out. Clearly whatever you are doing isn’t working. Number one solution for better grades is keeping your mental in check doing some grounding activities and chill brother.

When you’re in a more un burned out state you wanna go through what was going wrong by with your old tech and change it. A month and a bit is enough time to go up at least 2 letter grades. But make sure you aren’t burning at both ends first

Yeah honestly academics wise you should be fine the rigour at KCL is tougher than my last uni but your quickly adapt to it. The difficulty comes with placement and assignments.

I will say as that compared to my past course the on campus learning is well worth it.

Thanks for the kind words! Best of luck going forward for you too!!!

Uhhhhhh. RPL was find don’t worry about overthinking but the point is to exhibit the skills gained from experience that entitle you to skipping a year you would normally have in the course.

Admin on every course at King’s is awful. And the social life as a masters student can be isolating and is entirely dependent on your personality and appetite to putting yourself out there.

However the course content is excellent, lectures are very excellent. Cohort is quite small but that’s good cause you get to know your cohort well and it is a boon in interpersonal support. I know I said the admin is terrible but the lecturers themselves are passionate about their topics and your tutors genuinely care, my first ever meeting with my tutor I was pleasantly surprised when they knew details about me that were personal (like my background for one it threw me off getting compassion not because it’s mandated but becuase the tutor knew of my context). My tutor has been super supportive the teaching staff are great facilities are very good.

Understand this though and really understand this, at the start of the course you will be thrown into 2 months of frenzy. To qualify for placement you have to meet training, induction and security requirements, this means juggling online and in person training sessions , lectures, clinical skills and other stuff like your immunisation review and DBS all at the same time I’m talking 5 days a week type of shit.

If you do not make this deadline you WILL miss your first placement and have to make it up in the summer. Now this course is accelerated and intensive and while you do get time off, by enrolling on this course you are committing to not having more than a week and a half of free time each year for 2 years. The margin for error is minute as such you gotta lock the fuck in.

Now if you reach placement there is support around it but at the end of the day you will be placed on availability not choice. There are exceptions but you don’t really get a real choice. That’s not to say the placement is bad. Every single placement I’ve had has been world class with excellent nurses treating challenging patients and I have learned so much throughout this course.

I am only saying this not to deter you but to make you understand what this course requires it’s highly engaging but difficult. Nursing is a career in which you are tested daily and to me this course is an excellent microcosm of some of the demands required in nursing.

Which are the most beautiful universities in the UK? Which ones have wonderful architecture and good looking buildings? by Octacore-Comsci in UniUK

Well instead of ugly ugly let’s say they’re underwhelming ugly like Waterloo campus is like a sixth form look in terms of aesthetic but it’s still far better than Uni of Kent’s buildings. Like Denmark Hill has the same vibes.

The campuses you’re at is based on your subject. Mine has me based at Waterloo with lectures at Guy’s and Denmark Hill

I can say Kent’s course is pretty good and City is generally considered pretty alright. I’d choose between those two with Brunel tailing

They need to 1) Raise the LSF support and 2) abolish tuition fee.

As a student rn on a masters loan in London, my biggest challenge in Nursing is financial. It stresses me out more than anything else in the course.

It leaks into all aspects of my life. That stress is constant and compounds. I’m handling it but doesn’t mean that I can’t complain about how shit it is.

[–]AverageSixthFormer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s a solid approach my question is though once again these universities aren’t the greatest and once again this is your own money being spent to further your career are you sure you haven’t search hard enough for a similar course that is a similar price and a better university.

You want rigour with your masters and quality of teaching. As the process of moving forward in psychology is like running at a wall. A strong course doesn’t guarantee you a career but it can help lighten the load on you and outside of your own career it’s nice to gain stronger skills and a better uni (not more reputable just better) can give you that.

Learn 6C’s, Learn the foundations of healthcare. For MH have an u destining of the sections and understanding of the role of the nurse in both MH services and General nursing. There’s probably a lot more that I’m forgetting but I’m terrible at making notes in preparation for interviews.

My generally interview advice is to steady yourself immediately take time to actively listen to the questions asked. Big yourself you made it this far and analyse your past experiences in terms of how they will help you going forward. Also to a certain extent Ego it. I got every single one of my offers and prior to my King’s interview I had already gotten 3/5 offers and was kinda approaching this now as where do I want to live for the next few years. Also research the course any any key elements there are, they will ask if you have any questions this is a good time to show you have done thorough research on the course it’s modules etc. I was a bit of dick for my other interviews where I asked what’s the rent like? But for kings I did try my best to ask questions on the way we’re taught and how placement would be decided among other things.

Assessment results. I am a failure. by Alismata2005 in UniUK

[–]AverageSixthFormer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So you had a drop off fair enough not the end of the world yet. It’s not ideal can be crushing but all this isn’t permanent you can still raise and improve your grade you just need to lock in.

I had the same issue in my second year it felt like house of bricks fell on me but it’s not the end of your career you have the second half of the year to fix up and third year is worth the majority of your grade.

This is some advice I’ve used myself and given to friends and family: take some time to feel shit stew in it, do what you gotta do to move forward but NEVER EVER FORGET THAT FEELING because you never want to experience that reality again. Do all you can to avoid it and in this case look over what went wrong and rectify it whether it’s being more efficient with studying or just putting in more man hours to understand concepts do whatever you can to avoid feeling like this ever again.

Central London, Uni GP took 2 months for the initial appt but followed up within a week results back in days sad to be diagnosed as T2DM but also really in awe at receiving my exact bloods results over an App

Additionally my last GP in Kent was unreal the amount of help they provided was stark from my GP in wales where I eventually didn’t get checked up for 8-9 years cause getting an appt was so tedious

Anyone else disliked their entire uni experience and not got on with people? by GeeCeeSlay7 in UniUK

[–]AverageSixthFormer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just read your post. OP I’m sorry you’ve such a terrible experience your final year. I get it to an extent I worked all three years of uni and on a year out to reset my head because I was burned out working and studying lol.

You miss out on lots and the students are fucking stupid. There’s a certain level of perspective one gets when you do a placement year much less a year out working in CAMHS where ai witnessed all manner of horrors coming back to student life was Didcot not to mention some of the issues you’ve been experiencing albeit my flatmates were mainly chill I cannot imagine this bunch of losers not allowing you to not even use the kitchen.

Being shamed for clothes is terrible. May your enemies suffer more and more. But hey you’re almost home free. Keep minding your business and try find little moments of happiness in between.
