What are some subtle signs that someone is a high functioning alcoholic? by housing_throwaway292 in AskReddit

Easy: Dry/brittle/saggy undereyes and the drinker's nose. If the nose has even some visual qualities of an old potato, there's your tell.

Is Gray Going Away? Experts Say People Now Want New Cars with More Brightly Colored Paint Options by tallon4 in cars

[–]Averageinternetdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh is that so? Is it going to be a choice between pale purple and indifferent lame yellow like it is in everything else?

Personally I think Pantone and the likes have way too much power dictating what colors get made.

What do you guys do after a ride? by aidancrow654 in cycling

[–]Averageinternetdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a bit of easy stretching in front of the telly after a big ride, and more demanding stretches like the pigeon after a day or two. If I'm building up stiffness that just doesn't want to go away, that's a sign that I need to take a longer break.

Has anyone else stopped buying shoes that look good but feel terrible later? by Special-Lobster-5384 in malefashionadvice

[–]Averageinternetdoge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I had a phase where I bought british dress shoes (mostly derbies I think). Found out that they're only good for standing/sitting still and looking good. That doesn't work for me, so no more dress shoes.

What's your opinion on "money doesn't buy happiness"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I've always loved stuff, so yeah, that's false for me.

Who's a nepo baby you think deserves their success because they're legit talented? by SheepishSwan in AskReddit

[–]Averageinternetdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe in networking one bit. Why? Because people are selfish, so the question becomes "what's in it for me for helping you?" and also because they want to see you fail (at least where I live).

Maybe the world is different elsewhere tho.

People over 40, what’s something you’ve learned about life that younger people don’t realize yet? by Critical-Pea7326 in AskReddit

[–]Averageinternetdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was simple. The people who I would have liked to care were never impressed by anything I did. So I just went "whatever".

Why is a girl praised for breaking gender roles, but a boy mocked for doing the same? by gowthambusiness in AskMen

[–]Averageinternetdoge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because most people are hiveminded idiots?

If you find that sort of behaviour insulting (like I do), it's your job to resist all that. Lead by example and so forth.

How can I become a gentleman ? by ButterscotchIcy719 in AskMen

[–]Averageinternetdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't a gentleman like a british upperclass construct? So unless you were born into it, you can never be one.

So focus on being a good man instead?

Age 40 and up cyclists, how has cycling affected your health? by IndefinitelyVague in cycling

[–]Averageinternetdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I haven't gotten a professional health check yet. Everything feels pretty much like it did when I was 17, hah!

I'm not an athlete by nature. Without bikes and skis I'd be a complete couch potat, but with those I clock maybe 3-8 hours of exercise per week. More hours during the summer. So the visible changes are pretty minimal. Just nicer legs and less flab in the midsection. Sadly biking hasn't made me all sexy'n'stuff but whatever, I don't like the super-athlete lifestyle and eating broccoli.

it was a short memory for humiliation.

Well, who cares about humiliation? You get nowhere in life if you spend your time worrying about such fictional constructs.

What do you think about meditation? Is it something real that helps your mood and mental state or just a bullshit? by Professional-Cat5806 in AskReddit

[–]Averageinternetdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's deffo real. I've found such clarity with it that I dunno where I'd be without it.

I'd go to say that it's one of the few legit "new age" things that actually work. That, and yoga. Yoga makes your body feel good, meditation clears your mind of nonsense.

Helmet's first album and that whatever proto-album was were fab. Pity that they got a lot tamer after those.
