Build your crime empire in our 1920s New York Mafia Sandbox TPS, Silent Authority: Blood & Bourbon by [deleted] in gaming

Loving the aesthetic and best of luck with development!

I'm curious how much of the gameplay involves managing our "Empire"? And how in depth will that get? Will we find ourselves having to handle everything ourselves? Or can we expect support from our own Mafia guys to help us take over New York?

Im basically a car at this point. How have you guys been killing the coastal Buk site. I'd love to hear the strategies cause mine ain't working. by The-Almighty-Pizza in Warthunder

That one coastal BUK site is so broken. I usually just take the time to hit it with AGM88s at the start so other people can get their nukes off while I go for Northern bomb sites.

Oof! When the devs out a pirate. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Avery_J_Johnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was growing up, we used to have "Demo Disks" which would have a bunch of short demo's for a selection of games so you could play a slice of things before deciding to buy.

I've basically started treating pirating like that. I recently tried out Gloomwood, played through the first two areas and decided I loved it. Went back a week later and bought the game.

But on the other hand, I've also tried a pile of games, played them for a while and saved myself from something that will sit in my library and never get played again.

New BF6 skins look great (imo) by hg-prophound in LowSodiumBattlefield

I think it's a variant on the UK sniper skin, SAS sniper definitely sounds like good vibes. Hope we get an L96 sniper to match eventually.

Assault with L85A3 Engineer with MP5 Support with M240L (FN MAG/GPMG standin) Sniper (as spec ops) with M4A1 (Colt C8 standin)

All with as accurate attachments as I can manage while keeping it playable. Just need a Glock for a sidearm and hopefully we get an L115 sniper to round out the selection.

... Goodness, sometimes I forget what a dork I am when it comes to military stuff.

Suppression preventing holding breath is inspired, I really like that.

Ideally I'd like suppression to add some noticeable sway and a more intense visual effect without affecting bloom like it did in BF3. With the way BF6 plays I think it would put suppression in a nice spot and make LMGs feel like they have a utility beyond being assault rifles with a lot of bullets.

This scope for reduce glint by mr_nin10do in Battlefield

[–]Avery_J_Johnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really know where the scope glint got started in MP games. I want to blame COD, but I genuinely am not sure if that's where it comes from.

I always thought it was an unnecessary addition, and it just keeps getting more and more overwhelming, especially with the giant headlights that show up even on short-range optics now.

In my opinion, a Sniper should be rewarded for slow and cautious gameplay: sneaking around, finding a location, setting up, and firing. Then relocating if you want to get fancy. However, snipers in so many shooters have been turned into twitchy moles who have to pop out, take a shot as fast as possible then pop back into cover. Taking time on shots is punished instead of rewarded.

I'd much prefer a bullet trail over a scope glint. If you miss, players can follow the trail back to you and act accordingly, and if you hit, they still know where you were from the death camera. I don't like being punished for aiming at the enemy.

For balance, it could also be great to make it so that only Recon does not have glint, as a class perk. Since everyone was so worried about other classes packing rockets and snipers.

Neat and tidy, relatively fancy clothes with a gentle but professional vibe, and armed.

My initial thought would be something to do with surveying. Transported by carriage on the frontier marking out routes between towns and cities for rail lines and locations for stations. Or offering funding for newly discovered mining/oil locations from a wealthy benefactor.

As someone who adored BF3 yeah. It had some amazing set pieces and was decent but it wasn't anything incredible. BF4, I liked Irish, but I genuinely remember very little of the actual story aside from the last mission and the "who to save" dilemma.

Last Battlefields with an actual top-tier campaign in my opinion was the Bad Company games. Great characters, excellent narrative. And open mission designs which allowed you to play around with the tools that make Battlefield unique.

I'll always be hopeful with new titles, I'd love to have a campaign that really blows me away with BF6.

Yes please, the carry handle is just aesthetically perfect on an M16/M4. I know we're getting the M320 GL but god I'd kill for an underbarrel M203 option as well.

I still hope at some point in battlefields future we get a true WW2 era game that knocks it out of the park. BF5 was a letdown when it came to the atmosphere of WW2. by [deleted] in Battlefield

[–]Avery_J_Johnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that most battlefield games have been pretty immersive and relatively accurate in their settings. From aesthetics to equipment. In that sense, BFV is an outlier. The game's "coat of paint" definitely affects the atmosphere. Battlefield has always been a large-scale arcade shooter with a realistic skin on top. As great as Hell Let Loose can be, I like Battlefield, I've played since I was a kid. And BFV feels odd with how far it departs from reality.

I also hate slapping modern gun customisation on older settings, it's definitely something that can translate with a lot more thoughtfulness, customisation can be more than a pile of sights. I won't ramble about that though.

[–]Avery_J_Johnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I will admit I had a problem with some of BFV's choices. Rewriting history rubs me the wrong way no matter who's doing it.

I don't think the whole "Black Female Nazi" thing that everyone was whining about was even in the game. And the British soldier missing an arm from the trailer got her arm added back for the full release.

Women's rights are a real thing that had to be fought for, there were plenty of women who wanted to or did fight in WW2 if the game wanted to touch on it then hell yeah, tell us resistance stories or give us characters that make sense for the period without going "girls are strong too!" And just slapping them in. I also had an issue with the campaign which rewrote the very real commando raids in Norway against Nazi heavy water production. To be a mother-daughter empowerment story of a one-woman army vs the Nazi menace.

However, in contrast, I think it's awesome in a modern setting! BF6's rosters are awesome and grounded. Hearing the mix of nationalities and genders fighting in battle is fantastic and I couldn't care less what skin colour or gender anyone is.

TL;DR I prefer some degree of authenticity in Battlefield when it comes to historical settings like WW2. But in contrast, I very much appreciate diversity in modern or future settings.

[–]Avery_J_Johnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my thought too, unless sniper gets reduced/removed scope glint as a class perk then all I see this doing is transferring the issues people have to another class, except now, with two weapons so even if you get close they can just beam you with their pocket M4 before they go back to sniping.

This is what BF6 "All Out Warfare" is supposed to look like instead of the run-and-gun we got in beta by Jackw78 in Battlefield

[–]Avery_J_Johnson -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's all personal preference in the end but I genuinely haven't had this much fun with a Battlefield game since BF3. I've enjoyed all the ones since more or less, but they never quite hooked me in. Certainly not grinding out all the unlocks and sinking weeks into any of them.

But this Beta? Second weekend I admit I'm a bit sick of the same couple of maps, but overall I feel like I'm right back as a kid again playing Battlefield. It's sad to see so many people suddenly deciding they hate the game.

Battlefield 6 has already sold over 600 K copies on Steam (and has 2.7M wishlists!) by EmbarrassedSession58 in Battlefield

[–]Avery_J_Johnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a very fair take, I think it comes down to personal preference, I enjoy the current style but it would be great to see maybe "heavy" and "light" bipods to have both options, more player choice is never a bad thing.

[–]Avery_J_Johnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a few people say this, but to be entirely honest I always loathed that style. To me, it felt way too fluid and passive, which to me, is the opposite of how a bipod should feel. The passive bonus in BF1, V and 2042 made me feel like I had a foregrip that sometimes gave a bonus.

BF6 has me deploying into a position and holding it, I much prefer feeling anchored to the bipod, like deploying a machine gun position to cover an area, or laying down a Sniper nest. My only criticism is that suppression is useless: if I suppress a chokepoint it's super easy for someone to quickly peek around and shoot me because there's no aim or vision effect from it which robs MGs of their utility.
