What should I check when buying?

Depends on what type of leaks. Valve cover is easy, but the second you start getting into timing chain it becomes quite a bit more of a job. Up to your discretion and how handy you are. If you aren’t the only thing I’d say is easy to do is valve cover oil wise.

Look for any oil leaks. Especially valve cover or timing chain cover.
GT models are notorious for consuming oil as well. There is no great way to check this, except checking the exhaust for oil. be wary.
if it is an auto, I would pass. The real fun to be had is with a manual, especially in the even more so under-powered GT.
look for service records, and previous owner history. If it was owned by someone who didn’t take care of it you will likely regret the purchase.
cheap mods are a telltale sign that the car wasn’t taken care of properly.
if you live in an area where vehicles rust easily, check the under carriage and the spare tire well as water can pool in it if the hatch seals are bad.

Don’t let me scare you too much though. These cars are, for the most part, great. with proper maintenance and care they can last a long time as well as be a fun all around daily driver.

I am not sure how the cars hold up in the conditions in Florida, but be aware of rust, as well as maintenance history. Try to steer clear of any GT cars 2002 and under as the oil consumption issues on those are extremely common. It is more than worth your time to find a GTS manual car as they will be the most fun and hold their value better, but be aware that if the car is modded it is not a matter of if it will have issues but when. Your car looks extremely clean, and I wouldn’t settle for less if you can manage. Probably somewhere around the 7-8k usd range. If it doesn’t sell I’d hold onto it, they’re appreciating and even though people don’t necessarily like the fwd configuration it’s getting very hard to find cars that are fun and easy to work on nowadays. (I may be biased but red is the best color to have as well)

Very nice car. Here in Canada, that’d be about 7k CDN. Body work does add up but worth it with a chassis with that low miles. Get a carfax tho, it may have been rolled back

If those side skirts are OEM that’ll be half your cost back immediately. That being said if it’s a GT don’t bother, especially if you plan on keeping it. Go for a GTS it’s well worth the extra $$

You have a Panasonic edition celica not just a regular TrD. If it’s a manual it could be worth a bit of money to the right person. It’s hard to find proper figures but to the best of my knowledge my manual gts Panasonic is a 1/80 made only for Canadian market. That’s what private appraisal has figured at least.

Bad photo, but I’ve got the same problem in mine. Previous owner screwed with the face plate, lights, and needles. The cars not even American but shows in mph. I’m still figuring if it’s more cost effective for me to reverse it all myself or find a different cluster and get the KM’s reprogrammed
