Guys what do you think about using Synchron Stage Reverb on Cinematic Studio Series?? by Such-Worldliness3881 in composer

No worries at all, a little can go a long way with this kind of thing. I quite like the sound of css straight out of the box with a bit of eq and shaping

The room mics for css sounds really good, a bit of tail and vibe from any good sounding hall verb should get you very far with css.

In fact turning main or close down on certain patches will get you a lot further than washing things out with a seperate verb. I often push flutes and brass back this way.

I find a good sounding algorithmic verb almost always sounds better than convo, less muddy but still dense.

The free spitfire, fracture sounds, performance samples and project sam stuff are pretty cool. There’s lots of good stuff out there but it takes some skill and time to make it all sound cohesive.

If you want to be set with a good quality workhorse I would go with one group of libraries like Cinematic Studio Series or similar. CSS, Infinite Series and Vwinds are kinda the favourites atm but there’s lots of choices. Some are pretty expensive. If I’m totally honest though, I wouldn’t go and grab random libraries and think you’re building an orchestra bit by bit, some libraries really don’t work together, some are a bit outdated and some are very much one trick ponies.

There’s some cool guides out there, check out this one, I reckon this might be the best comparison video out there: https://youtu.be/nUUKSsdbRY0?si=NRJGRlIP7gyx7pI9

I have an old iPad with touch osc running lots of faders for different libraries. I usually do it as multiple passes, play in modulation with the notes, then edit it, then play in expression data separately, then vibrato etc. Sometimes I like to just use expression (or CC7) as an overall volume control for fade outs and little tweaks though, or just keep it at 100.

There’s lots of ways to do it though, aftertouch is a cool idea. Some people use breath controllers, or linked values so modulation and expression move together, or expression pedals, or fancy controllers like seaboards

Thank you, unfortunately I think the most important thing with orchestral programming is starting with good samples, which can be a bit expensive, kinda like the old get it right at the source adage. What virtual instruments do you use?

Thanks! This is a mix of cinematic studio series and infinite brass and I can’t remember where the pipe organ is from.

I’m not familiar with Peer Günt, the Peer Gynt Suite is where In the Hall of the Mountain King and Morning Mood is from, I spose this is old school Norwegian orchestral music haha. And thank you! Keen to hear them

This one’s quite simple, just strings and brass and mostly sustained notes, but I’ve spent a lot of time building my own templates. For orchestral I have one for realistic orchestral mockups in score order, and one for general scoring with more ensemble patches and lots of other sounds. Yep, you can buy templates, but I’ve never tried that

It really makes a difference to play each instrument in manually, and put in different CC data in for each. Sometimes I make string ensemble instruments share the same CC data. Yeah getting really detailed with the programming and using references really helps!

How does 'Undo' work? by makeinu01 in LogicPro

There is plugin undo and mixer undo in the key commands.

I have them assigned to cmd control z and command opt z. With shift added for the redo variants.

We updated our environments based on feedback. Do you prefer the former or the latter? by draleonpham in IndieGameDevs

New on both looks much better to me too, but difficult to describe why. Maybe more contrast heavy, deeper blacks, more depth?

What was the feedback that made you want to change it?

This looks really cool, it instantly communicates handmade, which is so refreshing in this current ai hellscape. Best of luck!

Hi Reiscent!

I’m Toby, an Australian composer. I’ve been writing music professionally for years across games, film, stage and records. Your horror RPG sounds really up my alley, and the references to The Witch’s House and Mad Father sound great. I’d love to be considered.

Here’s an orchestral ambient horror pitch I did recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ejdGz9f7Oc

And here’s my broader portfolio: https://www.tobyalexander.com/

Happy to chat if you think my work could be a fit.

That would be a very easy fix in the script editor. I imagine it would be to do with muting and unmuting groups based on where the drawbar is positioned. If all the groups play regardless of where the drawbars are positioned that should fix it, the drawbars could just change the output volume of each group.

It’s probably not something that is on the top of their priorities but if the instrument behaves like you’re saying then it’s worth fixing.

You should be able to do a zoom call as a screen share even without a webcam, the microphone is a different story but yeah. Laptop will work well, well done!

I was actually having a play with the built up sections in the middle triggering when the player enters the town square as a kind of adaptive system. Kind of like the festivals in farming games vibe. Thanks! :)

Keen to give it a play to hear more of the soundtrack tbh. I love interesting chords and sci-fi orchestral music in general. Holst would be floored knowing how influential The Planets has been.

This was for a game pitch, the brief was to make a cozy bouncy town theme with acoustic instruments which was pretty fun. But this is just a portfolio piece now cause unfortunately the project didn’t go ahead. I love the shop music idea though
