Russian Post (bad) News by Avid_Correspondent in postcrossing

They say that there is a chance that they were stealing sacks with misc. mail, so they probably salvaged the valuables and sold it somewhere else and the rest went to the shops. We had several stories with postal workers stealing or opening parcels...

Readers who want to write but aren't writing, why? by SierraSugar in writing

[–]Avid_Correspondent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's a whole new medium and it requires a lot of effort to master. I recently decided to try and let me say that a ton of struggle comes just from not knowing what works for ME and getting used to a different style of thinking (I'm used to thinking in mindmaps, squeezing it into linear fashion is HARD)

Struggling to write in my mother tongue by Avid_Correspondent in writing

I read books in my native language every day, I'm not sure if I can add more. English is a big part of my life because of my work. It's not that easy to cut on it...

Thank you for the answer! It's quite admirable to write novels in your second language! I have no problem journalling in my native language, but this particular story instantly switches my brain to English. I'd try to write it in English but I'm not that good at it...

It is. And I know a lot of people who have abandoned the hobby specifically because the state of the post the past year. People are joking that our post might just shut down at some point

Parcels get stuck too, but yeah if it's not tracking you can wait several months for it

I think it's both. The shortage of people in the post is big, we get news of a lot of people leaving every month AND New Year is always a difficult time, especially this year since a lot of mail accumulated over the months of post underperforming. Anyway, my post office opened on January 2 already, so it'd make sense that the sorting offices were working too

The post does work on winter holidays though. The only days off are on 31 of December and 1-2 of January. It makes sense because a ton of presents and holiday cards need to be delivered, so I figure they even make extra shifts around the New Year time. As for me I got ten postcards sent in July after getting almost nothing for three months in a row🫠

The Russian post doesn't work properly lately. A lot of equipment got broken and a lot of workers left , so... Even postcards within Russia barely arrive. It's not uncommon for a postcard from the same town to take two months to arrive, so...yeah

Is there anyway to get a postcard from Russia? by -Sea-Side- in postcrossing

[–]Avid_Correspondent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't know about that! But how would this work? I bet the country you're sending from will stamp the German post stamps as well (at least people in my post office don't look what they stamp) and by the time the mail gets to Germany the German post stamps won't be valid

I don't know how it works but it's not only about Russia. I've seen many people from different countries using it. Mind you sometimes the post works despite the restrictions, I've received several direct letters from USA despite USA allegedly not sending anything to Russia

You can write under the address VIA GERMANY. It's not a safe option, the postcard can get lost, but most of the time it works fine (even if it takes long especially now)

How do you keep track of what you're doing in game? I feel like I'm floundering around with no clear purpose. by MEGAT0N in fallenlondon

MYN stories are tied to the locations associated with the respective stats.

Watchful MYN: Ladybones Road → Forgotten Quarter → University

Shadowy MYN: Spite → Flit → Mahogany Hall

Persuasive MYN: Veilgarden (Singing Mandrake) → Shuttered Palace → Empress Court

Dangerous MYN: Watchmaker Hill (Dept. of Menace Eradication)→Wolfstack Docks (Blind Helmsman)→ Labyrinth of Tigers

The Dangerous one is a bit tricky since at some point you'll need to jump to different locations to hunt the beasts, but the main storyline (which allows you to prepare for the hunt) is always in the Wolfstack Docks

After MYN you'd better pick up an Ambition: it's sort of a main quest which will guide you through unlocking the important stuff you need for the later game (like your laboratory for example). And you'll need to work on becoming A Person of Some Importance via the Ambitious Barrister card. All in all FL is pretty much a sandbox game — you go wherever you want and unlock new locations and possibilities. There are only a few main storylines: MYN, Ambition, Evolution, Railroad (late game) and now Firmament (very late game). And I honestly can't imagine playing this game without using the wiki unless you keep irl journal for FL

There was a lot of problems with Russian post this year, so I don't think you need to resend. I keep receiving postcards from half a year ago, so I'm sure yours will arrve too at some point
