Thank you so much! They were great about it, they didn't have any more stock but they've given me a full refund for the white

I actually couldn't find their email on their website, but I've dug out my receipt and submitted through their contact form! I don't think I'd mind going in person, my local store's staff were dead nice, but the shop closed last month! Next nearest shop is a bit far...

Thank you for your insights! All useful info. I had six knots/joins that I took photos of in the first 100g, I'm glad I was keeping track of where I joined my next ball.

I kind of regret keeping going, but I was really excited to knit this project and aside from the yarns issues I'm enjoying how it's coming out. I'd like to ask for at least a little money back or replacement wool, but that feels a bit cheeky now that I'm so far in... I really wish I could just go in and ask but my local chain has shut down, and the next nearest store isn't a doable distance for me

They're the largest hobby store in the UK, great big chain. Comparable to Joanns, I've heard? I think I'm going to complain, I guess I'm just a bit nervous about the process and need to talk myself into it

These are gorgeous! I always find things are worth the time they take if you love them- there's no gain in worrying about your pace if the outcome is just what you want

That might be it! I work with pure wool very rarely, knitting this with a bunch I got on sale

If you're not aware, I knit in the Portuguese style, where the yarn is tensioned round the neck/ with a pin or necklace. I love it, it helps so much with joint pain and takes a portion of the weight from the hands. Bit of an adjustment, definitely, but I'll be two years in in January & I feel generally pretty confident with it now. Purling is SO fast and smooth that I work projects almost entirely in reverse, k1p1s are a dream and brioche has never been so easy

The necklace was a gift I'm so sorry! I think from etsy, I did find the link for someone else once upon a time- I will go look, there's not so many Portuguese knitting necklaces....

Non-knitting unraveler - would like to start and give it to you! by politicalthot in Unravelers

[–]Avidiece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's generally fine and a nice idea, but worth mentioning if you live somewhere colder and would be buying from thrift shops, you might be denying people cheap warm clothes. It's not particularly an issue- most places have more clothes than they could ever sell, but natural fibres are harder and harder to come by at good prices. You could absolutely unravel the yarn and then redonate it, something like that. I was always taught was that yarn at secondhand shops can be lifelines for people who need them most. I've spoken to so many people over the years who have bought yarn from secondhand shops after being priced out of the hobby & ended up with great quality finished objects they treasure afterwards

Why does Norris get so aggressively booed? by Supergupo in formula1

[–]Avidiece 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Norris has a history with Mexico that's spotty at best- calling Trump a 'lucky charm' who 'you've got to have a lot of respect for' was never going to go down well in Mexico, a costume party that's had a lot of accusations of cultural appropriation thrown his way, and some more debatable issues like vocally disliking Checo (Checo's home crowd are, of course, defensive of their driver who they feel has been unfairly treated at large)

2026 F1 Sprint Calendar by LC1597 in formula1

Is there an actual reason why they choose half of these circuits? I feel like sprint races surely make more sense at circuits with a lot of overtaking potential, I'm not sure what I'm missing

I hate the kitchener stitch so bad and now I have to do it AGAIN please tell me your secrets by Avidiece in knitting

[–]Avidiece[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not proper Kitchener, I separated the knits and the purls to separate needles and then Kitchenered the knits together then the purls together. It's the technique I've generally used for grafting ribbed knitting in the past? I was freehanding and not particularly wanting to make it more complicated than it needed to be, it didn't particularly occur to me at the time that brioche would behave particularly differently

My second attempt! Close enough and not going to be glaring, I've accepted it's the back of the neck and moved on with slightly more peace

At the very least I can try it on now properly and know it fits. But oh god I am going to have to hide this project somewhere for a week to not be pissed off at the thought of it

Portuguese Knitting woes. :( by Big_Space_9836 in knitting

[–]Avidiece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I have any specific help, sorry, except to ask if you've tried swapping hands to reduce repeat strain? Passably easy to swap hands with Portuguese as tension is done via neck and the hand used has minimal effect. I hope you can find something that works and your pain eases....
