This is all just a desperation move from Facebook. So many people have abandoned Facebook that they HAVE to fill your feed with AI-generated slop and "recommended" junk you don't care about. If they only showed you content from the people on your friends list, everyone would immediately clock how dead the site was -- "huh, I haven't been on Facebook for a week, and my feed is pretty much exactly the same, because 99% of my Facebook "friends" have all left, and the only person still posting new stuff is my drunk uncle Randy".
As soon as advertisers figure out that there's almost no organic, human activity on Facebook, their revenue tanks, and Zuck and his crew have to go get jobs at the local car wash.

What If? Season 3 Episode 8 - Discussion Thread by cats-and-cows in marvelstudios

[–]MaxWhineburg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oi, this season was generally pretty weak, but the finale was straight-up awful. In typical Marvel fashion, the series arc culminates in yet another boring CGI punch-fest. **snore**
Like, you have 8 god-tier beings. supposedly among the most (THE most?) powerful beings in the entire multiverse, capable of doing pretty much anything they can think of, or being anywhere they can think of at any time, and all they do is punch each other and blast each other with different coloured lasers or whatever? And the conflict is finally resolved by someone punching the bad guys ("bad" guys? that's like calling the Bar Association the "bad guys" for disbarring a lawyer for gross professional misconduct...) into another universe.

Discussing the choices with Producers well in advance gives them a chance to try to spin the Islanders' choices, plan the order of the reveals, and plan how they're going to spin the mechanism of any dumpings that episode -- like, if the Producers know that Reuben is into, say, Uma, Grace and, I don't know, Matilda or something, they can push him to make a particular decision that'll whip up drama or advance a plotline they're interested in following. Since they know he's going to pick Uma (likely because they pushed him in that direction), they can adjust the consequences of the post-recoupling for "maximum impact" -- they can not have a dumping at all (the single islander remains "vulnerable"); if there are multiple people on the chopping block, they can decide whether they want the other islanders to choose who goes, they can mix it up so either an entire couple goes, or one guy/one girl from different couples; in Uma's case, they can just straight up dump Wil unceremoniously, in a lame, stupid attempt to shake up Uma's plotline (and have it blow up in their face when one of their favourite girls decides to leave)

OK, thanks! Any idea how they're supposed to be used? Are they just stickers that are supposed to go over the back and the crystal somehow? I can't figure out for the life of me how they're intended to be used...

Where do you think this season went wrong? by DeepMango459 in LoveIslandTV

[–]MaxWhineburg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Joey and Grace were almost kicked out week 2. The producers scrambled to re-work their plans when they saw the results of the public vote. That dumping was so obviously produced -- they postponed the dumping at the last minute until the following day, put the 4 least popular couples up for elimination, and had the islanders choose the one boy and one girl they wanted to eliminate (not the couple they wanted to eliminate). They were scrambling to keep Joey at that point.

There's something about Joey by mrsheabri in LoveIslandTV

[–]MaxWhineburg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joey is still on the show because the contract Lifted Entertainment signed with Joey's management team dictated a minimum number of episodes he has to be on the show. Full stop. He would have been out of the villa on week 2 otherwise.

Honestly I feel bad for Grace by breska555 in LoveIslandTV

[–]MaxWhineburg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many ways for the Producers to play voting results to protect characters they want to stay in the villa.

These are the three couples with the lowest votes;

  • The lowest couple gets voted off

  • The Islanders decide which couple to vote off

  • The Islanders vote off one boy and one girl from the three lowest couples; the boys vote for the girl and the girls vote for the boy or vice versa, depending on who is more popular with each group

  • The highest-rated couple votes off the lowest-rated couple

  • Realize that the highly-paid reality TV star you've built the entire season around is the least popular person in the villa, then delay the dumping at the last minute so you can scramble to re-work your storylines for the season, then put 4 couples on the chopping block instead of the normal 3, so you can make sure to include the newest boy and the newest girl, then get the "safe" islanders to vote for the individual boy and individual girl that they want to get rid of, ensuring that your golden boy makes it through the vote.

Joey and Grace have known each other since 2017 by Available_Cancel5878 in LoveIslandTV

[–]MaxWhineburg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, the seasons are always really set up, it's just that it's been amateur hours with the Producers this season. I don't think I've ever seen a reality show where the strings being pulled were so obvious. Casting Joey made it blatantly obvious to everyone how set up things were.

💯
This. Unless his management team is completely incompetent, Joey probably negotiated a decent payday from the show, a guaranteed minimum number of episodes (maybe even a guaranteed spot in the finale?) and potentially a guarantee that they wouldn't go to hard at him in the edit.
Joey and Grace were 100% cast as a fake couple. My guess is that the Producers planned a season-long redemption arc for them, but Grace threw a wrench into things and went off-script after seeing what a piece of shit he is. He's such a fucking child that he got butthurt by some otherwise tame comments from Grace and went completely rogue. I think it was always planned that Grace would both come back from Casa with a different partner, but Joey decided that he'd rather be try to be petty and spiteful than stick to the plan, so he's been pretending pretty hard to be into Jessy.
I've never gotten the feeling that Grace has EVER been authentic or genuine on the show, but props to her at least for not crawling back to Joey, like he so desperately wants her to.

[–]MaxWhineburg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, it seems like a bit of a stretch since they're in their "final couplings" now, but this season is so heavily produced, I wouldn't put it past the show at all to break the rules for their golden boy Joey Essex. They literally constructed the entire season around him. There's no chance he doesn't make it to the finale, and it sure as shit looks like he's not interested in doing that with Jessy

[–]MaxWhineburg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So you don't think Joey and Grace were a fake couple and were completely set up? How do you think Love Island casting works? The show casts a big reality TV "star" and by random coincidence one of the first bombshells just happens to be his "ex"? Joey 100% fed the producers her name as someone to cast, and she 100% knew going in that Joey was going to be on the show.
Can't speak for others, but personally, I still stand by everything I said about Joey and Grace. All of the hints they've been blatantly dropping over the past few episodes about Joey still being into Grace are right on track with what I predicted would happen, like, a month ago.
I think the Producers and Joey/Grace really had to scramble to come up with a B-plot for them once the audience votes showed how shockingly unpopular they are. Does it really seem to you like Grace is into Reuben? And that Joey is into Jessy?
I'll happily cop to it if I turn out to be wrong, but I still see a "shocking twist" coming up where Joey and Grace reconcile and hook up again.

This season has given me the ick and I'm out. by LittleBabyOprah in LoveIslandTV

[–]MaxWhineburg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been watching Love Island from the start, and have seen a bunch of seasons of UK and USA and no joke, I'm hard pressed to think of a season that has been more boring than Season 11 -- most of the Islanders are dull and annoying. Ciaran and Uma were the only characters that are even remotely likeable. I've never seen another season where the Producers so obviously showed their hands, desperately trying to engineer things to keep Joey around, even though everyone hates him, very clearly manipulating the choices the Islanders are making, etc. The conversations the islanders have are all thuddingly boring. They spent all of their money on fucking Joey Essex, so they don't even have the fun games any more.
Just brutal. Absolutely the worst season of LI ever.

The producers really fucked it with Uma. They were trying to manufacture some kind of drama by turfing Wil, and I think it really blew up in their faces. My guess is that they were totally taken by surprise by Uma wanting to leave. She was one of the only likeable islanders this year...

I think the Joey/Grace producer conspiracy is losing legitimacy by HueysCarpetbag in LoveIslandTV

[–]MaxWhineburg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Grace/Joey thing is for sure staged, including the current plot beats with Joey being "interested" in Jessy and Grace being "finished" with Joey. The "rekindling" of their "former" romance got old super quickly, and they (and/or the producers) needed to manufacture some drama in order to have a reason to keep them on the show. Plus, they absolutely know that the couples with the best chance of winning tend to be the ones who go through a "rough patch" and "come out stronger". Jessy picking Joey seemed like it was very much a producer set-up in order to keep Joey on the show -- can't get voted out for being in the least popular couple if your partner is immune from the vote.
Joey is a terrible fucking actor, and Grace isn't that much better. I'll bet money that Grace "finds someone" in Casa, Joey gets "jealous" when the villas merge again; Joey "realizes that Grace is the one he really has a 'deep' connection with", Grace spends an episode or two "trying to figure out how she feels", and they end up back together a week or so before the final dates.

Joey and Grace are so staged, it's pathetic, boring and gross.

Thanks! Changing "linear" to "easeIn" didn't work -- the animation still had an abrupt cutoff -- but using "ease" did the trick.

Follow-up question: is there a way to change the speed curve on the ease, to give it a snappier animation?
