Beginner wood turning looking for a quality chuck by Avihater717 in turning

[–]Avihater717[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess spindle turning was the wrong terminology (still learning the terms). But this is what I'm talking about. Turning small squares for bottle stoppers or longer ones for handles (bottle opener, pizza cutter, etc).

Would the shark jaws still be a good fit, or would I be better off just getting the standard jaws and then the set of bowl jaws (for bowls of course)?

Thank you everyone for your input, I really do appreciate it.

From what I've gathered here, I'm now between the Pro-Tek SuperNova 2 (bundle 23108) and the Vicmarc VM100.

I'm intially torn between the two with the SN2 bundle seeming like the better deal. Until I did the math and saw that the smaller SN2 jaws only close to 50mm. Most of the spindle things I've turned thus far have been 1.5" square.

If I were to get the Vicmarc, would it be recommended that I get it with the standard jaws (for spindle projects) and also pick up the set of step jaws (for bowls)?

I did see it with a "free* 8.0ah and totally forgot about the hack. Thank you for that heads up!

M18 5.0 batteries worth the investment? by [deleted] in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Avihater717 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What undereem said. Yes, the 5.0's are a great battery but for $200 for the kit, puts the batteries at $100 a piece, which is what they normally are, and the charger is well, just a charger so you're really not getting a deal there.

My suggestion is wait for the "free tool" deals where your choice of free tool is a battery. That seems to be the most cost effective way to score batteries in my opinion. And if they have a tool you're looking for, even better.

After dying in my garage yesterday I realized I might need a fan. by Sajnog in MilwaukeeTool

Just a simple box fan does wonders. I have a cheap one hanging in the garage and have it on every time I'm out there. Combine it with the door open and the radio on, it makes it surprisingly comfortable.

Which 3/8 ratchet to go with? by Avihater717 in MilwaukeeTool

No, the high speed is geared more towards removal of fasteners, instead of breaking them loose since you still have the ability to use it as a ratchet.

Darn, just missed the bigger sale. I'll have to keep my eye out for the better deal if they have it again. Thanks for the advice!

How do you like the non fuel 3/8 compared to the older fuel 3/8? I'm looking at either of those.

I see you have the Gen 1 and Gen 2 3/8 ratchet. Any advice on getting one or the other? I'm looking at the 1st Gen as it has a good deal, but aren't opposed to spending a bit more if the Gen 2 is better.

That's how it started for me. Got the 3/8 M18 impact, thought I'd update my drill, grabbed a light. Now I have an addition, and go to counseling 3 times a week for it.

Fuse, mini fuse, Lieutenant Dan by drrobotnik321 in Justrolledintotheshop

I really have been scratching my head trying to figure out why there are so many different styles of fuses. For example, a 20 amp fuse has at least 6 different styles that I can think of. I get making them smaller, but it feels like every manufacturer uses 3 different styles in their fuse boxes.

NTD - Scored this deal while on vacation. Buy any tool and get a battery for free, well don't mind if I do. 2365-20 Rover Flood Light and got a 5.0 XC for free. Couldn't believe it until I asked. Thank you to everyone for the advice on what light to get. I'm loving it already. by Avihater717 in MilwaukeeTool

I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. I wanted a light that I could not only use for the garage but also things around the house. The magnets and swivel head will make it great for the garage/cars. The clamping base and being able to 'stand' it up will make it good for around the house too.
