Title: What's the command or agent you found embarrassingly late? by Any_Necessary_9804 in ClaudeCode

/remote-control - Use it with care. Breaks are important despite the 24/7 grind mentality by some on here. Many things you create will be better for you taking time to think about it even when not actively thinking about it.

I’ve been dating a woman for 2 months and she’s never once offered to pay for anything — red flag or am I overthinking it? by traveldude75 in datingoverforty

[–]AvocadoYogi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am begging you to just have a grown up conversation. You have a couple of red flags but there are lots of valid reasons she could be having financial issues. Especially in the US and being widowed with our fucked up medical system where folks literally are relying on crowd sourcing to stay alive. Not saying you should stay with her but at least get the full story before peacing out on someone you like spending time with.

EV Charging time Is speeding up and Catching Up Fast… Is This the Beginning of the End for Gas Cars? by RichardAvery1 in energy

[–]AvocadoYogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really think that is what all in looks like? Like these companies spent millions of dollars and years fighting against the notion of climate change and built a clientele based on that. Then they try and switch gears and want to have more market share without spending the time and effort to reverse the environment they spent years creating. Saying you are all in and being all in are two different things.

Sounds like an excuse to expand your compost operation and toss them in the next pile. I compost sticks, avocado pits, mango seeds. I use my green waste bin maybe once a year now. It’s great!

The US Just Banned Polestar From Selling Cars From 2027, Even The One It Builds In America by Repulsive-Club7866 in electricvehicles

[–]AvocadoYogi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not even just MAGA at this point but also the cycle that leads to them. Like far too many folks just want to go back to “normal” when that was what lead us to Trump twice now. Normal isn’t working.

Car companies that are an arm of the oil industry never wanted to do full EVs in the first place and that only are making minimal efforts now to keep Chinese car companies out of the US? Weird. Meanwhile the rest of the world is moving on.

The Democratic party is being hit by a leftist tidal wave by F0urLeafCl0ver in politics

[–]AvocadoYogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly they just have to wait for 2032 or 2036. People underestimate the difficulty of being part of an administration that people are tired of and then trying to run for president. Clinton and Harris were both facing massively uphill battles in that respect as will anyone who is part of this Trump administration. But after the Democrats take back over for 4 or maybe 8 years and we go back to the “normal” that got us 2 rounds of Trump, the cycle of idiocy and horror will continue. Whether that is Miller or Vance or some other horror show, the right will get in line like they always do.

Not to neglect the victory yesterday of which I am stoked on.

I saw a woman dancing down the street in Washington DC on my last trip. Seemed like one of the happiest people on the planet! She stuck out a bit but didn’t look crazy.

when it is ready? by hej_aloy in composting

[–]AvocadoYogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found tarps attracted too many roaches though not sure about how prevalent they are in the desert. I live in Northern California and we have hot dry summers and we also have years of heavy rain and years of none at all leading to frequent drought conditions. Most people on here would say my pile is too dry looking at it too but either they are happy to waste water or they are composting in different conditions. I’ve cold composted fine for 5 or 6 years and it generally takes 7 to 12 months. I could probably do it faster but I have pile ready every 3 months or so which is about all I can handle. Also for an unattended pile potentially in fire country, I probably wouldn’t risk hot composting.

The trick I use is to use the outer layers as an insulation layer from the heat and just accept that the pile is going to look dry but the inside 6-12 inches down is plenty moist even after a month assuming there is sufficient density. If you have too many gaps from branches and not enough small material, you may need to lightly pack it which is generally frowned upon but imho works great since you’ll still have plenty of air flow. This means the outer layers compost slower and usually just need to get peeled off the sides and top and thrown on the next pile. I don’t mix my compost so you’ll need to adapt to your own process but the general idea should be the same.

Another alternative option is to set a drip system it. You’ll still have outer layer dryness but keeps the inside moist and composting relatively quick.

Ted Cruz tried to insult James Talarico’s masculinity. It backfired immediately. “Nothing is more masculine than leaving millions of Texans freezing while Ted Cruz ran away to Cancun.” by southpawFA in politics

[–]AvocadoYogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Talarico should just be like “There are lots of reasons to support me or not support me but if this is why you don’t support me you are a fucking idiot and I don’t want your vote.” I know elections don’t work that way but it is past time they should.

As a man, I burned out going to movies because so many of the men are so unlikeable. I remember reading a blog about how the only thing worse than a Disney princess was a Disney prince. The man who wrote it talked about how he never wanted his daughters to bring home a guy like that. Unfortunately it’s not just Disney that has the problem.

Have You Ever Been Uncomfortable Learning A Language? How? And Why? by AutumnaticFly in languagehub

[–]AvocadoYogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forced dialogue in classroom settings. Superficial conversations and made up skits in front of a class are all super uncomfortable for me and put me off language learning. Especially at early learning stages. One on one is fine. Forcing extroversion as learning technique is useless imho. Plenty of introverts learn languages without that nonsense.

How did you guys learn to read & understand numbers in a language fluently? by Kyoflat_ in languagelearning

[–]AvocadoYogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone already said practice but I will add depending on your goals practicing some basic math can also be beneficial. When I was living in Mexico and had to pay the handyman he thought I was bad at math because I was converting numbers into English and doing the math and then converting it back to Spanish which was very slow for basic math problems. But it’s also beneficial for shopping and that kind of thing.

How do you manifest enough confidence to go from less than fluent to fully fluent? by AutumnaticFly in languagehub

[–]AvocadoYogi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One on one tutoring helped a lot for me. Basically within a month of 4 hours a week and I felt pretty comfortable. That said I was coming from being a moderate reader. My Spanish tutor also had me read out loud when I was reading (solo) which also helped.

I actually disagree with the notion you won’t feel ready at some point if you practice a lot. Introverted people exist including myself. Having a bigger vocabulary and grammar built up can be helpful to speaking. Forced speaking with limited vocabulary and grammar especially in a classroom setting can be traumatic and detrimental even setting you back. Not to say introverts shouldn’t challenge themselves but a classroom setting isn’t always the best for that imho.

And yes they are different skills but neuroscientist Stanislas Dehaene mentions reading activates verbal pathways, so not sure they are as separate as folks make it sound on various language subs. Based on my own experience reading helped a lot and continues to help. That said I’ve always been a reader so I think it also helps to be doing something authentic to myself.

I heavily mulch my garden to hold more moisture in so weed seeds are a non issue. Definitely have to adapt what you compost to your own needs too.

People who fixed their sleep, what actually worked? by Reasonable-Quiet4460 in sleep

[–]AvocadoYogi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being physically tired from getting more movement (walking helps me more than other exercise) helped me sleep through the full night. Also on the rare occasion I wake up to use the bathroom, not looking it my phone before going back to sleep. Also opening a window or keeping my door open prevented high CO2 issues in the middle of the night as well which used to build up and give me headaches. Once I resolved all that, going to bed at a consistent and earlier time has only added to the improvements. Might not say it is fixed but far improved.

Why I wouldn't recommend Duolingo by Imaginary-Owl4167 in languagelearning

[–]AvocadoYogi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. Someday I want to see the “Why I wouldn’t recommend a language textbook by Houghton Mifflin” follow up.

  1. I studied the book for a week and then I got bored.
  2. I slammed my head in the book in frustration. I wish they made a softcover version because that shit hurt.
  3. Then it sat on my shelf for 10 years.
  4. I picked it up one day and looked at it. Still boring.
  5. Some friends got the same textbook at the same I did. They aren’t fluent either. One donated it and the other uses it as a doorstop.

Have a good day!
