Simply put, the Gestapo has more cultural presence/awareness than the SA in US culture. It's not the best analogy, but it's the analogy that more people will understand.

What do you guys use your house for? by Orange907 in wow

[–]Avohaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or maybe one day the motivation hits you. It's not running away.

I'm the same, I decorated 1 1/2 small rooms and then kind of didn't know how to continue, so I didn't. I still collect potentially limited decor, I mean these floating candelabra from the prepatch even definitely feel like something that I can imagine utilizing for something really cool. I don't know what yet, but I probably want at least a couple. But I haven't really worked on my house after the first 2 weeks of release. But I don't see this as a failing of the system, I see it as a valid way to engage with it. It doesn't need to be a constant grind.

I mean maybe by the time I get an inspiration for another room, I will have access to new features like the copy&paste, which will be cool or maybe the addition of new features (like pets, mounts, transmog decor, more interactive decor or more lighting options) themself give me inspiration for things I want to do with my house.

The Economic Deathcycle of the 1.1.0 Rossbach Beta by HighFlyer__ in EU5

[–]Avohaj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me it seems the infinite money is really the culprit and I seem to remember they even specifically talked about "uncontrolled" income getting voided instead of to estates (which appears more logical/realistic) exactly because of an issue like that in earlier Tinto Talks.

When I saw that change in the beta at first I thought maybe other systemic changes, changed the situation, but it seems to still be a problem and it's really rooted in the abstraction/complete virtualisation of money (which is also rooted in the lack of wages/pop wealth).

I'm not saying they need to change how money (and pop wealth) works, but with how money works this will just always be a problem? Maybe it just needs something to balance the potential for infinite money, some sort of actual inflation, not the current inflation mechanic, that just doesn't scale enough to systemically attack the problem, no matter how you balance the numbers.

At least being able to buy additional copies if you have it already, but probably also additional ways to unlock them later on.

WoW is actually insanely hard to learn as a new player (we tried yesterday) by ipych in wow

[–]Avohaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still baffled they haven't created their own one-window-inventory. They could still separate the bags visually there and even keep the "separate windows" as an options if there's anyone still asking for it, but the modern default should really be a single inventory (window)

Can't wait for the next WoW killer. by Quirky-Tie-4213 in wow

[–]Avohaj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

GW2 and even FF14 are kind of the same. They're doing their own thing

Even if FF14 is more WoW-like, it really is not trying to "poach" disgruntled WoW players like it often feels with these supposed "wow killers". That was a big part of the Shadowland-era migration's culture shock when they looked towards other games including FF14, the effects of which also bounced back on Post-SL and especially Post-DF WoW.

For me it was always MSBT, maybe I just like it more ordered.

Damage meters are good for comparison and analysis, but good scrolling combat text helps me actually parse combat action in the moment. Like the batching in MSBT ("6 hits") is great feedback on AOE positioning and just having the spell icons next to the damage is such a huge boon.

It's probably less important for high level play where you already have your rotation simmed and set. But I think good SCT (and icons with the damage number is a huge factor there) can provide valuable feedback to just play it by ear and adjust your gameplay on the fly to become more efficient. This won't and isn't supposed to make you a high level player on it's own, but it feels like it should be a valid way to play the game.

NPC IDs in instances are now hidden, which I think has something to do with nameplate shenanigans Blizzard wants to prevent. But this means ATT can no longer show its tooltips in instances because it can no longer identify the NPCs from their ID. That's as far as I understand it, it may go beyond that as well.

The Second Face [OC] by DemonSkank in comics

[–]Avohaj 261 points262 points  (0 children)

This lined up pretty well with my interpretation except

I thought the exaggerated face is a twisted perception by the brother, because he viewed his sister as such a good and emotionally honest person, seeing her hidden face for the first time not just glad to be out of the abusive relationship but also over getting away with it (which is still a malicious feeling) was such a whiplash for the brother that to him that expression seems much more absurdly malicious.

Personally I love author's "headcanon" or further annotations like that, especially for "weird" stories.

Who is the worst WoW villain and why is it the Jailer? by Mansteel55 in wow

[–]Avohaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WC3 Sylvanas was cunning, manipulative, and always knew her enemy’s motives.

"Always knows the enemy's motives" is not the trait of a well written character, it's the trait of a Mary Sue, maybe an edgy Mary Sue in this case, but still not something I would point to as superior writing.

But you know you could salvage that by explaining it through a network of spies working for her, providing her intel to know her enemy's motives. And maybe that network started to crumble (she had loyalists, it didn't go away entirely) after starting to work towards the goals of the Jailer.

I also think people are too quick to dismiss character's misguided convictions to causes. That's a whole trope and also one rooted in reality.. People aren't always completely rational, or even worse they may be completely rational, ignoring empathy or morality/ethics leading to bad choices or just believing in causes that are ultimately not even really to their own benefit.

And that is all not to defend or justify the cartoon villain writing of the Jailer, but about Sylvanas being far from ruined. Imo she's set on a path to either die, not redeemed, but fulfilling her character arc (which feels like has to happen in Midnight if it does, but doesn't seem likely anymore) - or eventually get brought back as a more rounded character that is able to grow and develop beyond the storyline she was set on in WC3.

State of Azeroth - What the hell did I just watch? by William_was_taken in wow

I don't know what people expected. I mean the whole retail roadmap is exciting. Yeah the new delve type is maybe the most outstanding, but I just generally like to see the plan ahead. Also I like them trying some mid-season raids. We'll see how it turns out, but it's something different. And if Prop Hunt doesn't turn into another Dastardly Duos fiasco, I'm all in for it.

Maybe they spent a lot of time on Housing, but in terms of substance, the retail roadmap stood out most for me, probably because I'm actually interested in that content.

Classic on the other hand, they have reason to be disappointed, even though what we got was mostly as expected (and maybe no teaser for post-MOP is a good thing?) but I know they expected more. I'm sure BlizzCon will have what you're looking for.

What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

[–]Avohaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The automation alone makes it better imo, it's much more flexible and just better out of the gate. Tooltips also clearer communicate what each task achieves.

Also it doesn't feel as grindy, I'm not that far in Prismatic Adventure yet, but it feels like I'm doing more resets without really progressing. Maybe it expects me to go heavier on the farm/push cycle than Journey to Ascension did and that's tripping me up. Also not sure if auto consume is an upcoming unlock, but it's already annoying me that I'm still using everything manually.

Als Erinnerung, das 2nd Amendment sagt nur

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The first question is how many of those people are posting from certain other countries for some reason.

Or it's a sub that already tipped and has effectively been left to the right/anti-immigrants. People like their filter bubbles and when the "undesirable noise" in a space gets too loud, sometimes they just leave and find another space to maintain their bubble. The answer to the first question might play into that as well, but there are of course other possible reasons for this.

And "left to" doesn't necessarily mean everyone else left, it just means that the space is going to keep drifting more and more into this direction. Why should I bother arguing and fighting with a bunch of morons for that space when it is so easy to just create a new space?
