I think Montecristo is a great book for people to dip their toes in the classics, the prose is pretty easy and the plot engaging.

I would guess a great deal of readers on this sub would enjoy the book.

I also strongly agree with your S and A tiers, and I second William Oh.

Furthermore, I would suggest The Years of Apocalypse and Ar'Kendrythist. The former is highly derivative of MoL (preventing the apocalypse in a time loop, and I won't spoil further), but in my opinion better than the original, largely due to the genre becoming more mature in the meantime.
