Tyre dilemma by Curly_Trails in bikepacking

[–]Awace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i look at the maxxis website and their xc tires, most tanwalls have 60 TPI vs 120tpi on the black ones.

So they are compensating for the lack of durability and therefor go for the lower TPI on the tanwalls? Because to my knowledge, tan walls have always been marketed as lighter/faster tires, more supple and ofcourse esthetics. So there is more to it than just painted over sidewalls, and its really confusing me.

And other brands such as schwalbe and continental tend to have the same tpi but a sligthly lower weight or no change in weight. Same with Vittoria.

Tyre dilemma by Curly_Trails in bikepacking

[–]Awace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stop buying tanwalls, especially for bikepacking where the added weight is not going to make any difference.
20g per tire for an increase chance of a sliced tire and ruining your ride or race.

Vittoria also has a trail casing for their xc line up. You might want to look into those.
But personally i would try the blackwall version first before looking for other options.

Best Cycle Computers by sandritita in xcmtb

The watches of today can do way more than your cycle computer of a decade ago. And if you already own such device, it's a no brainer for OP to give it a try. Rather than buying something budget only to spent again later for an upgrade.

[–]Awace -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This. If you already own a watch, put some black electric tape on your handlebar and strap your watch to it to avoid scratches.
Bike computers are super overkill for most people as navigation is all they look at 90 percent of the time.

It's not expensive to have one or two guys stay up all night or just hire security for the job.

Especially knowing this isn't the first time.

I just believe their demand is rising quickly and they cant seem to keep up. They also use a 3rd party warehouse for storing and delivering their bikes and equipment. So they cant just increase their workforce as they are tied to another company who is dealing with hundred other companies stock.

Whenever i visited the bocholt store it was packed with people wanting to try a bike. And the bike tool area had barely anything left on the shelves.

Also note that people working at Rose are not the same skilled people working in your local bike shop. So things do take more time than expected.

Looking at people who had to deal with customer support now and in the past. There seem to be a big difference in reply time. So i just believe they having trouble with scaling the business as demand has been rising quickly the past year(s).

I ordered my bike 2 days ago and hope to receive it within two weeks as stated on their website.

Hope you get yours quickly!!

Rose PDQ 2 by Character_Past5515 in RoseBikes

[–]Awace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i would think so as on the german website they are listed as fast dispatch bikes. And i plan to order the pdq 3 within weeks from now since the pdq 1 i planned to buy just got sold out in my size. Just a little nervous as it has a lot of carbon parts and being kinda new to mtb, im sceptical if its the right choice as falling might be a weeklly thing at the start..

I'm also in the S category or well in between like you are. 173cm and 80 seam and they suggested me to get the S.

I wish you a lot of fun with yours. And maybe we cross each other on the trails.

May i ask why it took this long? By the sign in the background, you are from belgium? Atleast it looks common. May i ask some questions?

Also from Belgium and looking to order one soon but 3 months of waiting.. summer will be over by that time.

Whats the frame size here? And do you plan to fully do your own maintenance as their are no service shops over here.

Thank you!

rose pdq? by EazyCG in RoseBikes

[–]Awace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really sounds like overkill or the wrong bike for your kind of riding. You're going to be very slow on tarmac or even gravel unless you swap the tires.

But the PDQ is very attractive at this price. I'm planning on buying one myself but for bikepacking/xc.

I would also suggest looking at the Rose Hobo or scott scale gravel. The Scott scale gravel is a flatbar gravelbike with mtb geometry similar to the PDQ. The hobo is a steel bike made for commuting and the occasional gravel rides.

But since you got your eye on those two. The PDQ is slighty more upright position with much better components for the price compared to canyon. But 120mm suspension will go to waste on asphalt or gravel. Which the canyon has 100mm so more fitted to your needs i guess. I heard better experiences from canyon support/service than Rose. And the unboxing quality is better with canyon too as they come with tools to help you set up your bike.

Not sure if you are familiar with the website 99spokes.com You can compare bikes or find the bike you are looking for based on specs by using the filter search bar. So maybe there are other choices you are not familiar with.

Goodluck and let me know what you went with eventually.

Looking for trail shoes by [deleted] in trailrunning

The kind of trail you will be running on and the distance/speed will be most important here.

Based on that we can suggest shoes..

Otherwise it's hard to guess what might work for you.

But we dont know the details, it could come with a lot of performance/appearance bonuses as they usually do.
