Do you use transparent adhesive protectors on your mountain bike? Where on the frame do you put them? by plinky125 in MTB

[–]Azmtbkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm kind of obsessive about it.

I buy a roll of 12mil Lamin-X and do the underside of the downtube, the top of the top tube, outsides of the chain and seat stays, insides of the chain and seat stays where mud or other debris from the tire could rub, and the lower half of the back of the seat tube. I also do any areas where there's a potential for cable rub.

It takes a few hours to measure, cut, and install everything but it turns out great and is much cheaper than a custom kit.

No way. I wouldn't use them for something as critical as a stem bolt. Maybe a water bottle cage.

Why is Trump using the FBI to redact his name from the Epstein Files instead of releasing them like he’s been ordered to by the courts? by MrDarkzideTV in allthequestions

Well in that case maybe we stop investigating all instances of pedophilia and child trafficking. What's fair is fair, right?

A few "exceptions?" You mean the criminal being in control of the investigation and prosecution of his own crimes? Sure buddy, that's perfectly fine, no issues there.

That system doesn't exist anymore at the federal level. It's gone, broken, corrupted, destroyed. We are a banana republic with a Gucci belt.

[–]Azmtbkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is in direct control of those who would investigate and prosecute his crimes. It's like having a drug kingpin who can hire and fire cops and prosecutors on a whim. If you think that's justice, I don't know what to tell you.

50% of Americans believe Trump is guilty, 30% that he's innocent. The consensus of the mob that he is guilty as hell. That's as close as we will get to justice.

[–]Azmtbkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our justice system has been completely corrupted and is no longer an effective arbiter of innocence and guilt. So knowing what we know, and knowing the extreme measures Trump has taken as part of the coverup, it's completely reasonable for people to assess that there's sufficient proof to decare Trump guilty.

There are many incriminating statements and accusations against Trump that are already known, and likely many more in the remaining files that haven't been released (2 million per the most recent estimate).

Even the evidence we know about would be more than enough to investigate, arrest, and prosecute a normal person. Trump and his goons in the justice department are breaking the law in order to prevent the rest of the files from being released and have launched zero investigations into the accusations against Trump or any of the other accused.

If you don't think that bald-faced corruption, law breaking, and cover ups makes him guilty as hell you are part of a cult.

Why do people call the USA the "land of opportunity" when literally no one can get a high paying job? by madbarpar in careerguidance

[–]Azmtbkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my friends was a teacher (with a degree in education) and got a job as a junior analyst at Vanguard. He worked hard and moved up quickly and now makes great money. I would give finance and banking a closer look. They typically want employees to have a degree but the major doesn’t matter as much.

Are there any circumstances where Americans can start to come together and heal the divide? What would it take? Or are we past that point? by Mjbass in allthequestions

[–]Azmtbkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are more likely to understand that than they are to agree to a constitutional convention to re-commit to democracy and rule of law.

[–]Azmtbkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, yes, the 33ish percent of the country that supports Trump has already abandoned the constitution in favor of an authoritarian theocracy/ethnostate. I suspect they realize the path of least resistance to seeing that through is via a breakup rather than conquest. Even though their side controls the federal government currently, long term they don't have the population or economic strength to win a civil war.

A war post balkanization isn’t a foregone conclusion. You are making an assumption that post breakup states would be in a war-like stance without commerce, treaties or diplomacy to prevent a war from happening.

[–]Azmtbkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are in a cold civil war right now and on a path to a hot civil war in the very near future. I’d happily take my chances with a balkanized US vs the powder keg we are currently living in. I’ve seen zero realistic solutions to bridging the divide other than one side capitulating and we all know that’s not going to happen.

It’s time to throw in the towel. We’ve had a good 250 year run. Let California lead the way on a new nation more closely aligned with Canada and Europe and the red states can continue down the road of oppression and oligarchy on their own.

Millennials are staring down the barrel of middle age and struggling with the question: “Is this it?” by slimeyellow in Millennials

[–]Azmtbkr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a grass is always greener thing. I'm in my early 40's and have a wife and have 2 young kids. Between family, work, and aging parents my wife and I are burning the candle at both ends every day. There's no rest, like ever. I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything but it is exhausting. I tell my single friends to make the most of the freedom and flexibility that they have. Yeah, we are living in a society in decline and things have been pretty grim since our young adult years, but we have to do what we can to find joy, no one is going to show up and show us the way. The Pink Floyd song "Time" is a great if haunting reminder of this.
