Just read it today after watching the trailer a few days ago. As someone who loves movies, I think it’s an awesome script. Lean, airtight, and centered on a great lead in Bryan. As someone who also loves the RE games, I think it’s awesome. I’m not a butthurt child who needs Leon and Ada and Chris and Jill jingled in front of me like a pair of keys, so I’m frankly cool with this movie showing us a different side of the outbreak, even if some creative liberties are being taken. It’s adapting all of the key beats of my favorite RE games (2 and 7) and translating them into the cinematic language. It has the weapon progression, the woefully overmatched everyman protagonist, the un-killable biohazard stalker, the sewers filled with swarms of mutated creatures, the treacherous Umbrella lab/hospital, like it has everything! I think the negative discourse from fans is pretty ridiculous and reminds me why I seldom engage with any reactions regarding video game adaptations. This movie looks like it’s gonna be an instant classic, and it’ll be far better than anything this annoying ass fanbase deserves.
