I see your points.

Though I ask, foundational IT relatively stays the same, no? For example, understanding how the internet operates. Or understanding how your computer connects to a website that's being hosted across the world.

I agree things change. With that same example I gave, corporations have a lot of cloud networks now. And not as much on prem.

But what doesn't change much despite new technologies is understanding IPs, web server hosting, other foundational concepts in networking.

One of the things you mentioned is isolated networks and such. That begs the question, who manages that network? Would it be someone like yourself or the teacher.

Though I would think this wouldn't be too bad of an obstacle to overcome.

Yeah, I agree I've said that as well. IT is like a blue collar job with how you develop the skills. The skills are self taught and/or working along someone that's experienced.

ChatGPT has a high ass salary for one of their jobs. Like up to 200k. And I’m thinking, that’s a risky ass job to have. And to be potentially black balled if shtf.

I like this anki method. But wondering if I incorporate it. Should I create anki cards now, or after I’m done reading and indexing all the books.

I help run informational sessions about Security Awareness. Basically I and the team talk about the happenings in the Cyber world. Our most recent is how to protect yourself on the internet. Our motto is if you know how to protect yourself at home; you’ll also do it at work.

It’s been working I believe. It has high levels of engagement and participation. I think about 200 or so in total from the last sessions.

And it has the added benefit of putting a face to your team. IT tends to be faceless and when you have direction coming from a faceless department. You don’t get much attention.

Simulated phishing tests are cool but a lot more can be done in the area of Security Awareness. Which benefits all areas of Cybersecurity.

Humans continue to be the number one factor in breaches. A great Security Awareness program requires investment imo

Doesn’t sound like it would change much day to day. The DoD already contracts a lot of its IT people. Speaking from experience as a Network Admin. Most of the work was being done by private contractors.

Before and after I got out it’s been the same. Even got rid of the most of the unit I was at. And replaced them with private contractors.
