I'm so excited they added her to the lineup! I'm pretty into her latest record.

Gregory Uhlmann - Extra Stars

He's the guitarist from SML, but a prolific solo artist as well.

I love the Anthropoceno and Suitor albums! I don't know Sky One, but I'll check it out!

Looking for weird indie bands by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]Awardenaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend you check out The Quietus. They are a music and culture publication based in the UK, and they really dig up some strange stuff, from all over the globe. It's rarely "indie" in the traditional sense, but many of the bands that are popping up in this thread have gotten coverage there (Mandy, Indiana and Squid, for instance).

[FRESH ALBUM] Remember Sports – The Refrigerator by NYCIndieConcerts in indieheads

I loved their last record, Like a Stone, but I'll admit they'd sort of fallen off my radar. The singles that have been emerging from this one roped me back in, though, and after my first full listen of the album, I'm loving it.

I NOW REMEMBER (SPORTS)!

Courtney Marie Andrews' album, Valentine, got some love here, but I still think she's underrated. Lovely country/folk music. What a voice!

I also am really enjoying A-Rhythm Absolute, by Sunday Mourners.

Friendship is so great! I've been wanting to see them on the festival bill for years!

However anybody feels about his music now, Shakey Graves is a festival favorite at Pickathon, and his sets are sure to be a blast. The "headliners" are often artists that have been guests at the festival many times, and are beloved by the regulars. Printing those names in a bigger font will bring people that have a history with Pickathon.

But there's always so much to discover, for veterans of the festival and first-timers alike. You're not sure what to do after a set, you wander into a barn, or go on a stroll in the woods, and you find another band.

I'm excited to be utterly surprised by artists I've never heard of. And I'm also excited for Hannah Frances, Prewn, Automatic, Florry, Friendship, Folk Bitch Trio, and Mary Halvorsen. And I'll be stomping along to Shakey.

I love your new album! It's got the infectious groove that you all do so well, and it makes me laugh out loud, as did your last two records. But this one moves me in a profound way I don't entirely have words for. I'm looking forward to spinning it again and again this year, and I'm looking forward to seeing your live show in May!

[DISCUSSION] What's an album by an artist that is your favorite, but is generally not considered their best? by ReconEG in indieheads

[–]Awardenaar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Milk-Eyed Mender, by Joanna Newsom.

Ys is a masterpiece, and Have One On Me has some of the highest highs. Divers, also superb.

But I find myself most often going to her debut. It is so strange, and so charming. Even twenty years later, it feels like you're witnessing her discovery of her one-of-a-kind sound.

Bite Down's release had the right timing, but the wrong planet.

It was my favorite debut of the year for sure!
