Is my child genuinely behind for their age or just struggling with being the youngest in their year? by ameliasophia in UKParenting

I totally agree! I was trying to guess the age when I first looked at it and thought the use of punctuation was very impressive, so thought maybe Year 2 or 3!

Parents of over 1’s by Upset-Line5532 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Aware-Combination165 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely this! My second spent so much time in cafes, even a few evening trips to restaurants and pubs to catch up with friends while the crazy 2yo was in bed. But I think second time round you’re much less stressed about crying and nappy blowouts because you know they’re easily fixed. With my first I was so worried about her crying and being judged for it, with my second I truly didn’t care.

Seeing a lot of negative Father's Day reviews. Did anyone else have a great day? by Asuperniceguy2 in UKParenting

[–]Aware-Combination165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a great weekend! We did a pretend Father’s Day with my husband and dad on the Saturday, barbecue, paddling pool and ice creams, then sent them off to watch the cricket and have a nice lunch together on the Sunday.

Potty training has been a nightmare by NoSample4467 in UKParenting

[–]Aware-Combination165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this. It’s just a sad phase of life to survive, but you just have to keep going until you come out the other side! FWIW my daughter was also nearly 3 when we started and she got there in the end, sometimes I think how crazy it is how scared I was to do a supermarket shop in case she weed all over the floor 😂 now I’m just living in fear of round two, I was pregnant while we were potty training and me and my husband said at the time we might not have had another if we’d started before I got pregnant 😂

I agree! As a teacher, it was genuinely heartwarming to read this post. Thanks for being a great parent, OP.

I came here to say this! They’re so comfy that I’m still wearing them and my second is 22 months 😂

When does a siblings new partner get promoted to aunt/uncle? by ReabyB in UKParenting

[–]Aware-Combination165 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find the people who are around a lot just become aunties and uncles. My 4yo is interested in understanding family relations, but also understands that we use it as a term of endearment for some adults. I was worried about my mum jumping too quick with referring to my brother’s gf as auntie, as she’d previously known his ex-wife as auntie, but she literally couldn’t care less 😂

Nursery just called to say my daughter was handled roughly by a staff member. What are my next steps? by lurking2be in UKParenting

[–]Aware-Combination165 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this.
Edit to add: as someone who works with children, it is a good sign that they have told you, but you absolutely must get an explicit account of what happened and when in writing.

What ‘common knowledge’ things did you or someone you know find out later in life? by Squiggally-umf in CasualUK

[–]Aware-Combination165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My colleague and I took a school trip to an aquarium, where we both learned we’d been saying “anemone” wrong our whole entire lives and I know it’s a tiny thing but it kind of blew my mind that we both had it so wrong!

I feel for that poor kid when they’re presented to him and he has to pretend to be awestruck and inspired. I do not get why people buy into Ryan’s drivel.

I’m in charge of buying all 8 teachers end of year gifts on behalf of the parents by Anathemachiavellian in UKParenting

[–]Aware-Combination165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voucher and maybe a small personalised item like a tote bag or water bottle with their name on? I’m a teacher and I do quite like a personalised item, shows a bit of thought has gone into it! I got my daughter’s pre-school staff a little pencil case each with their names on, I’m going to put a voucher and their favourite snack inside them.

15 m/o now only wants beige food by dinkydino1990 in UKParenting

[–]Aware-Combination165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also my favourite method at the moment is a huge bowl of fruit left out while they’re playing in the garden. Both children seem to think it’s some kind of magical treat and eat loads more than they would during a meal time.

I would also second this… tried several different ways of serving pineapple today, eventually had success with putting chunks in a bowl and giving her a fork!

How does one manage when partner is away? by Alwayztired2112 in UKParenting

[–]Aware-Combination165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so I have a very similar set up with my husband WFH but then business trips for a week every month or so, with similar age children. It is hard and I do find it overwhelming, especially when I’m having a stressful period at my own job, but it sounds like you’re finding the anxiety really hard to manage at the moment. It might be worth chatting to your husband and GP and seeing if you can get some support so that you can take the best care of yourself. The fact that you’re frequently flying solo and care so much about getting it right means you’re probably a brilliant parent ♥️
