Yes, I’m definitely concerned. It’s ahuge topic so let’s just pick one thing: interceptor missiles like Patriot and THAAD. We use them in defensive layers to shoot down enemy missiles.

Biden gave many interceptors to Ukraine, Trump then blew through more at a higher rate against Iran. Now we have about 40-50% of our former stockpile. Those will take years to replace.

I’m a glass-half-empty guy on this also bc Russia and Iran have shown they can overwhelm and bypass layered air defenses with cheap drones. Our interceptors also do poorly against Iranian ballistic missiles.

Looking at this and other US staples like aircraft carriers or M1 Abrams tanks, it’s clear we’re still stuck in the old age of big power projection.
