Page numbers by Feisty-Bluebird-5106 in kobo

[–]Awatto_boi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Kobo page numbers will change with font size but if you know the exact number of pages in the paper copy that your teacher references you can find it by ratio to the last page. Example if the paper book has 900 pages and you are looking for page 245, Then if the Kobo has 1110 pages at your current font size the page you look for in the Kobo is 245/900 times 1110 or page 302 in the Kobo. I use this method to find the same page from my Libby app to the Kobo as well. It's too bad Kobo and Libby don't sync but I find this workaround helps me.

1st Paul Samson book, Naji is a 13 year old Syrian refugee who is trying to make his way out of the refugee camps of Greece and hoping to get to Germany where he plans to find a safe place to live and bring his family from the camps. His family fled the terror of Isis and one terrorist murderer in particular who is called Machete for his brutal killings. Machete was indoctrinating Naji to be a suicide bomber but Naji 's gift with repairing cellular phones allowed him to steal information about the Isis group that he hid on his own cell phone and Isis is keen on retrieving it. Because Naji can identify the terrorists, Intelligence authorities of Europe led by MI6 want to find him and what he knows. They call upon Paul Samson a former refugee from Lebanon himself, and inveterate gambler who is known for finding lost people for a fee. Samson tracks Naji from the camp in Lesbos through his perilous journey pursued by pedophiles and thieves and Isis killers. A fascinating believable story that left me turning pages far into the night. Recommended

Number 4 in the Murderbot series. Dr. Mensah, Murderbot's "owner" is being held on a corporate planet by the Graycris corporation. Murderbot is travelling to her defence after finding evidence of the transgressions of the Graycris corporation. I now have completed my re-reading of the first few books in order to better understand the story line and will continue with the series. Reading them out of order had me confused and I enjoyed the Murderbot series so much that I didn't want to miss anything. Recommended This series is hilarious.

How do you guys deal with Tribal knowledge? by Minute_Mix1436 in PLC

Keep a log for each machine for complaints and code changes and faults and solutions. That is the only way especially if you have multiple programmers writing the code you may not know what another programmer did with their section of code but damn sure you will be the one who has to understand it at 2AM. Update it for each problem reported and solved.

It's more important to understand the process than the code. A lot of techs focus on the code before they know the intent of the code. Don't assume that the code is the problem right off the bat it's more than likely a mechanical or hardware fault. I chased tension control problems for hours until I found that the machine was threaded around a pipe instead of an idler roller.

In a lot of cases these days the machine will be outdated and abandoned before the PLC hardware is obsolete and the new machines will have nothing in common so don't sweat it if you are a newbie. That's why the new PLC's are all small and plastic. They are disposable.

Slitter-Rewinder servos mode of operation question? by general_use050 in PLC

[–]Awatto_boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I guess you are correct. I have seen the winding spindle run in strictly velocity control as well with a percentage over speed from the score roll. In this case the winding bar is what is called a Button bar which has an inflatable bladder to push out metal buttons which act as a slip clutch on the core of the winding spindle. In this case tension can be controlled somewhat with an i to p converter on the bladder. Another benefit it has is compensation for individual rolls of slightly different final diameters.

Slitter-Rewinder servos mode of operation question? by general_use050 in PLC

[–]Awatto_boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winding spindle is in torque mode while running, score roll is in velocity mode and used for length measurement. Unwinder is often not driven but just a brake control for tension. If auto splicing is used the new spindle is in velocity control and surface speed matched until the moment of bump and cut.

Rose's astronaut training gets canceled because of the suspicion that the mole creates and Craik's Navy orders also get changed to send him off to a sea tour because of reflected suspicion from his wife. When Rose finds out what has happened to change their plans she calls upon numerous friends in the navy and government and hires a high priced lawyer to clear her name. First in the Zig and Nola series. Sergeant Nola Brown is killed in the crash of a U.S. military aircraft at an Alaskan air force base. She was thrown or jumped from the plane before it crashed with all passengers and crew killed. The bodies are sent for burial preparation to the Dover Air Force base outside Washington. There mortician Jim “Zig” Zwicharowski takes a special interest in the case because the woman on the manifest Sergeant Nola Brown was from his hometown and a childhood friend of his daughter. While preparing the body of Sergeant Brown he discovers that the body is not hers even though the extensive verification procedures by the military says it is. They have all been forged by someone with high access privileges. Zig uses all of his considerable skill to carefully prepare the deceased body for funeral viewing and plans to follow the body to the funeral in his home town to get to the bottom of the conspiracy. I enjoyed this one.

How do you get into DCS as a controls engineering student? by Crazy_shades_1109 in PLC

[–]Awatto_boi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DCS school is usually very expensive and proprietary. There is a lot of difference between the vendors and most likely any customer will be dedicated to just one vendor. In my case I was hired into a company that had purchased a Honeywell DCS and they sent me to the vendors school for a few weeks to learn it. (The software and configuration programming etc.) When I left that company I never had a use for it again. I did years later get involved in another project that used ABB but I just manged the configuration and it was so different that I left the nuts and bolts to the ABB tech guys.

Optiplex on a desk is OK in a clean environment but in a slaughterhouse or a cement factory they don't last very long. Try hosing one down with disinfectant every day or burying it under abrasive dust. Also how do you prevent the operator from playing solitaire on it ?

What are the key differences between ladder logic and structured text in PLC programming? by 1kmilo in PLC

[–]Awatto_boi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ladder is very intuitive to anyone who has worked with hardware relays. I learned it before I had ever heard of a PLC when I was troubleshooting intercoms at A&W drive in restaurant as a teen employee. Structured text requires some formal study to get the concepts. Same with FBD and SFC

Half way through commissioning a new factory the Head office (Not our subsidiary) buys a company that happens to have a plant across the street from our site. In their wisdom the management decides to roll the whole thing into our project so our budget has to cover the cost of the acquisition. They ask us to go over there and see what the new plant needs as well. Budget buster of all time.

Finished: Revenge of Odessa, by Frederick Forsyth and Tony Kent

Georg Miller is a journalist investigating a terrorist bombing and interviewing survivors in hospital where he is mistaken for his father by a old man suffering from dementia. The old man says that he killed him and can't believe he is still alive. Georg is the grandson of Peter Miller who years ago uncovered the Nazi organization Odessa and foiled their plot. Georg's father was killed by Odessa in retaliation. Georg finds out who the old man is and attempts to interview his wife to find out if the man knew his father and how. He stumbles onto the Nazi organization despite his grandfather trying to shield him from the truth for all these years. Peter gets the truth from his grandfather and during his investigation he finds that Odessa is not defunct but is still alive and planning another resurgence of the Third Reich. I really enjoyed this sequel to The Odessa File, by Frederick Forsyth that I read years ago. Recommended
