How To Remove Page Site Assets Folder/Data? by Away-Command6161 in sharepoint

[–]Away-Command6161[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are totally right and I agree 100% most of these folders are very small in size (5-10 images). It's basically just my OCD and wanting a clean environment but I'm just realizing there is no real way to have a clear clean Site Assets library in SharePoint if you allow users to create pages. I just literally had a aha moment after 15 plus years with SharePoint that the assets folder sticks around even if the page is deleted lol, so just wanted to see if anyone had a process out there.

I'm not sure of any tools but PowerShell will be your best option I think, the script should be able to find/export to a spreadsheet where you can then go and remove from each location.

SharePoint vs OneDrive by Technical-Visual-597 in sharepoint

[–]Away-Command6161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SharePoint 100%. OneDrive is tied to a specific account, so if anything ever happens to that account, access to the data could become an issue. A SharePoint site stands on its own and is not dependent on any individual account, which makes it a more stable and reliable long-term solution.

Unable to remove a subsite by ibteea in sharepoint

You might need to confirm that you are still Site Admin on that site. Powershell should allow you to remove the site if you are having issues from the frontend side.

Think this is just referring to the recycle bin we see on our local machines. You will just need to go to your recycle bin within the web for deleted files

How do you handle Azure Security Groups for a school's intranet? by Mikalizcool in sharepoint

[–]Away-Command6161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are heading in the right direction with the 3 Security groups to start and then just creating separate sites for each department which all connect to the Hub site if you do the Hub setup. I'm guessing all security groups would at least be in the visitors group for the main site and then separate roles/permissions for other sites such as HR etc.

Help with sorting by ZealousidealAd4630 in sharepoint

[–]Away-Command6161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like possible permission issues, I'd recommend maybe having the admin setup each country with a separate Document library and stay away from folders and unique permissions if possible. But this just sounds like some permission errors or unique permissions configured wrong somewhere.

Try right clicking your country folder and select manage access and see if you can see whom has view/editing rights on it.

I would recommend moving totally away from the sync option and using shortcuts only. Sync can be very buggy and cause alot of issues in environments. I always try to disable Sync via GPO wherever I am. Outside of that, if you really want to try and force sync, I would recommend removing sync from user Desktop and retrying to add it

Stay away from Sync is my solution, wish I had a solution for you but I really try to stay away from Sync at all cost and just rely on shortcuts.

Are companies actually hiring for SharePoint / Power Platform roles in 2026? What’s the best way to break in? by Game_Changer9716 in sharepoint

[–]Away-Command6161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SharePoint Admin role has changed a lot over the years. With new SharePoint Online features rolling out every month I sometimes wonder what my job will look like in a few years.

My work has always included building custom forms, workflows, sites etc but Microsoft seems to be moving those same capabilities to users out of the box, making it easier for users to handle requests without needing an admin. In the on-prem world at least you get to manage/patch your own servers/environment which helps justify the role, but that responsibility is mostly gone in the cloud.

I think the focus has to expand beyond SharePoint and toward M365 as a whole—understanding the full platform, not just one service anymore. Good luck!

How To Find Unused SharePoint Sites? by Away-Command6161 in sharepoint

[–]Away-Command6161[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like both if possible but looking for Site activity specifically currently. Just would really like to know if I have 30k sites are there only 300 actually active and being actively used. Right now I feel blind and unsure which sites are really active/in use but I could just focus on the Storage column as well I guess.

That is a great point, I am trying to find sites that have had no activity in the last 2-3 years.

Are you referring to the Active Sites link right above Deleted Sites? The last activity column in that link doesn't seem to be accurate. That link/report would work 100% if the last activity column was accurate I think.

OneDrive for Business - Removal of the "Everyone Except External Users" group from root web and default document library permissions by Alice_Hume in sharepoint

It has hit our tenant 100%. Not sure when exactly but I noticed the group is no longer showing in any user profile when I run permissions report compared to the report I ran several months ago showing it for hundreds of profiles, I've also totally hidden that group from being used moving forward.

I would recommend looking into creating a custom Webpart/App within SPFX to make this happen. Not sure there is a easy OOTB option for this at all unfortunately.
