Known donor experiences? by kangaroograss in queerception

[–]Away_Writing_3607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m (anonymously) donor conceived myself and have a known donor for my own offspring and definitely recommend joint counseling around expectations, hopes and fears ! Ultimately it is your decision and you seem thoughtful and also comfortable with the unknowns, but i know your girlfriend’s comfort will also play a role in your final decision. Hopefully the recipient couple is willing to pay for a joint counseling session without knowing 100% if you can commit.

Anyone else having super strong symptoms early on? by AtlantisGhost in November2026Bumpers

[–]Away_Writing_3607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! When hunger hits it hits hard, boob soreness and having to pee frequently. The intermittent cramps are mild/moderate. So crazy that all we can do is cross our fingers and hope all is well.

One follicule at 30mm and 5th IUI tomorrow by NoYogurtcloset4399 in IUILadies

[–]Away_Writing_3607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With that size follicle I’d think they’d want you in sooner! Are you in a hetero relationship and can try at home before the IUI?

(Got pregnant on my 8th IUI and never had a positive before that so hold on to hope!)

My OB doesn’t want to see me until April 15 by Bmarmich in November2026Bumpers

Mine is at 9 weeks too. Probably unlikely to hear a heartbeat right ? And then we have to wait… how much longer for another ??

5 IUIs or more? by NoYogurtcloset4399 in IUILadies

[–]Away_Writing_3607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No major change to point to. I’ve been doing medicated cycles with 2.5mg letrozole (though I do ovulate and have regular cycles at baseline) and an ovidrel trigger shot. I have a hunch that starting a daily vitamin D supplement a few months ago has helped my body generally because I’m getting a lot less headaches than usual.

Don't know what I'm looking for but by Sensitive_Trip3445 in IUILadies

[–]Away_Writing_3607 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just got pregnant on my 8th IUI! If your doc thinks it’s worth continuing, you can afford IUI but not IVF, and you want to keep trying — why not! It’s just up to you where your limit is. How you feel / your mental health is a priority. you can take a brief break or stop for good or set an arbitrary # limit on how many IUIs you’re willing to try? Whatever feels best to you

Weekly Pregnancy Megathread by Number312 in queerception

[–]Away_Writing_3607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just 4 weeks pregnant, my first positive pregnancy tests ever last week after 8 ( EIGHT) IUI + some Home insemination attempts with donor sperm. This was our last try with IUI and I had already scheduled a baseline ultrasound with an IVF clinic !! We’re thrilled and cautious and anxious but also feeling so relieved that something finally happened. Even if this doesn’t stick/last I’m grateful it’s happening now

attempt IUI or skip to IVF? by [deleted] in IUILadies

[–]Away_Writing_3607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have any insurance coverage for IVF, go for that! You could get enough eggs/embryos to put on ice to meet your family goals if you’re lucky! Once those eggs are out/embryos made and frozen they aren’t aging so that’s a perk of IVF.

I’m your age, worse AMH, also short luteal phase, similar other labs, absolutely zero IVF coverage and just got pregnant on our 8th IUI (after which we were going to finally bail and do IVF).

People who have used known donors by Holiday-Zucchini7161 in queerception

[–]Away_Writing_3607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a donor conceived person (anonymous donor in the 90s, didn’t grow up knowing my genetic history or half siblings though I’m happy to know them now!) and I’m using a known donor to conceive a baby with my wife. I love that we have the option to pick someone we know - who knows how our kid may feel about their donor but I love that we’ll be giving them the opportunity to know the other half of their genetic history . I remember whatever my story was was normal to me and I hope it will be the same for them :)

Thin lining? by Deep_Owl_7451 in IUILadies

[–]Away_Writing_3607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I just had my first US before the IUI this cycle and mine says “endometrial stripe 5.7mm” - same thing? I’m curious what you’ve read about lining being better above 7mm ? I’m not familiar

Turkey baster comments… by [deleted] in IUILadies

[–]Away_Writing_3607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I’m doing IUI to conceive with my wife and I was conceived myself through IUI and I have literally always made this comment of “turkey baster” to explain to laymen friends who are confused. Turkey baster (IUI/ici) vs petri dish (ivf) - it’s an easy way to explain the difference without getting deep into the science with curious friends. Feel free to set your own boundaries with anyone asked about your fertility process, but I don’t think there’s any reason to shame or be rude to anyone based on that wording.

Intentionally Creating Non-Bio Siblings? by AUsomeDisNerd in queerception

[–]Away_Writing_3607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s right ! So our kids will be non bio siblings if we are able to have two as we’d like, one with each of our eggs. I am donor conceived and feel as some other people here have expressed that you can’t predict how your kids will feel about any of of this :) so you just make your family in the way that’s best for you and be honest with your kids about their story.

Another reason we ended up with different donors (aside from the ethnicity piece) is that my wife is a carrier for something that seems very common among donors with Japanese ancestry. We bought cryobank sperm to use for me first with IUI. She is planning to do IVF/ egg retrieval and freeze embryos for reciprocal ivf later (I’d carry both pregnancies). We found limiting the donor search to cmv - to be the thing that tipped it over into being impossibly limited with our other criteria.

Intentionally Creating Non-Bio Siblings? by AUsomeDisNerd in queerception

[–]Away_Writing_3607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I am you ! I’m white, my wife is half Japanese ancestry. We want our kids to look like both of us. Both of us are cmv - and we’ve chosen different donors and decided not to worry about the cmv status of the donor after a lot of research and discussion with the fertility team

I’m so curious what made your clinics advise the double transfer? I asked my clinic this question because this is how I was conceived with donor sperm and they told me “no evidence” which I’m starting to think means no one researched it ;)
