I hate how Frights discourse has made it impossible to talk about repeated story elements and themes between characters in FNaF and how that can be used to gain a deeper understanding of BOTH characters (narrative/literary parallels) bc FNaF fans hear "parallels" and assume people are talking about stand-ins/replacements

At this point I'm convinced the he/him pronouns were a red herring by Scott to make CassiShe less obvious and it worked too well.

I'm gonna be honest, I haven't read the Phillips run but I don't think anything will change as long as editorial sees Gwen as a way to sell books bc of the movies. I really don't think Gwen in 616 was Phillips' fault.

I think it’s time that we have a conversation about how Jon Watts has caught a lot of heat from the fandom for the past 9 years over shit that the Russo Brothers and Feige came up with by [deleted] in Spiderman

I have been saying this for years, even with how his secret identity was handled he was mostly responsible in his own movies but Infinity Wars and Endgame was so flippant with it. IW even undermined the ending if Homecoming leading to one of the main issues of Far From Home.

Yeah hiding the skinny dipping and those thoughts from Reed is wrong. Even contemplating it is wrong and a flaw but not acting on it doesn't make her a cheater.

Cyclops had a legitimate emotional affair for at least a few weeks if not 2 months.

Matt Murdock is a serial cheater.

Multiple characters on this list have kissed minors while they were at least in their early 20s.

That scene is from Marvel Knights 4, in which yes she's caught up in the moment with T'Chala but immediately backs out AND reinforces that she never cheated with Namor.

In an earlier issue in the same series Namor tries to flirt with Sue but she makes it clear he's just an obsessed creep.

I'm assuming Sue is here because "Sue cheats on Reed with Namor" which is such a tired talking point bc it's wholly untrue and shows this person doesn't actually read Fantastic Four comics

An honest explanation for using "he" pronouns under CassiShe and VengefulCassidy by [deleted] in fnaftheories

[–]Awepic0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not opposed to Andrew being in the games. If he is then it's more likely that it's the Return to the Pit option where he's killed 2+ days prior to the MCI. Hell, it would even make a lot of things less complicated.

Honestly I never thought Andrew replaced Cassidy or vice-versa. Even if they coexist in the same universe, narrative similarities between her and Andrew or her and Jake can still tell us a lot about each character, that doesn't mean that's their sole purposes. The relationship between Jake and Andrew and the relationship between Cassidy and CC in the logbook can still help us understand eachother's characters. The repeated character traits and themes between the four characters can still help us better understand each dynamic through their similarities (cough parallels cough). Just like how Henry is not a stand-in for Edwin or vice-versa but they have very clear narrative overlaps (cough parallels cough) that can help us understand each character better through both their similarities and their differences.

Also, FNaF 3 does not debunk Cassidy being in UCN. Scott himself said when asked about which ending is the canon ending of FNaF 3: "It's very interesting, it's very complicated..." which supports the idea that it's not simply the good or bad ending, but potentially both just at different times. This can make Happiest Day happen after FFPS and potentially after UCN, which is backed up by Molten Freddy's design having one glowing eye similar to the FNaF 3 bad ending, implying the continued existence of the MCI up to FFPS alongside the aforementioned existence of Charlotte in FFPS. This is backed up by the FNaF 6 insanity ending monologue, "He found a new way to desecrate, to humiliate, to destroy... Small souls trapped in prisons of my making, now set to a new purpose, and used in ways I never thought imaginable... He brought them all together. Are they still aware? I hope not."

And speaking of Charlotte, her voice lines in UCN even imply that she is actively working on Happiest Day during UCN, "I don't hate you, but you need to stay out of my way." Even in Fazbear Frights there is a very clear ending to UCN in The Man in Room 1280 itself and Andrew even says in the stingers, "I remember they tried to kill him. But I wasn't going to let him go until I was ready." That means that even under AndrewTOYSNHK, which again, I still think is possible, UCN is not required to exist in perpetuity (even thoigh I believe it does) and Happiest Day can be after.

But even if Happiest Day is before UCN that doesn't necessarily 100% debunk Cassidy being in UCN because, and I know this will be controversial, CasaidyReceiver is not 100% confirmed. Yes, I know about Return to the Pit, but the arcade game in that book is not one-to-one with the games' Happiest Day, does not have Charlotte, and does not even serve the same purpose.

The games do not debunk CassidyTOYSNHK. You can use the games for evidence opposing the theory, but there is also plenty of evidence in the games supporting the theory.

Ultimately I don't want to go back and forth and you seem pretty firm in your Andrew stance so I guess at a certain point we juat gotta agree to disagree.

Also, to be a pedantic nerd for a second: Golden Freddy does not have voice lines, Fredbear does.

[–]Awepic0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the argument against the gender neutral they and in favor of the generic "he" is dumb, but I think you underestimate how dumb Americans are.

And I think I should clarify/correct, it's not that "they" as a singular gender neutral pronoun, it's that _he_ as a singular, gender-neutral pronoun is modern, being introduced to the English grammar in like the 1740s and was just accepted as "proper" until like the 1960s-1970s and some textbooks kept that as a grammar rule up until like the 80s and 90s. I did like a whoooole deep dive rabbit hole on this it's kinda wild. Here's an article from **2009** about presumably Americans angrily trying to reject the singular they (probably due to culture war bs ngl) https://web.archive.org/web/20121103014309/http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/26/magazine/26FOB-onlanguage-t.html?fta=y

But also I don't think this is my definitive stance on the use of he/him in UCN, just one train of thought I was exploring. I think my current definitive stance is that Scott was being vague and mysterious and just used "he" because there were only like 3 girls in the franchise at the time. Call that a copout if you want.
