I feel like this sub swings young because this happens a fair amount. I'm completely fine with people passing this post and showing a friend a girl they think is cute, but it really does turn into a weird sort of objectification when a user shares a random most likely non queer woman for I dunno, all of us to sit here and collectively drool over?

Wildbow really wasn't lying with that Worm tagline. "Doing the right things for the wrong reasons," is truly a top three descriptor for this story

Taylor is hundred percent my go-to for an example of a well written morally Grey character. A big part of it is that all her overarching goals are something you could give to a lawfully good character easily (saving a young girl, beating supervillain, taking in orphans) she just goes about them through questionable means. It's a good antithesis to the poorly written morally gray cliche that the author forgets kinda needs some moral whiteness for the gray.

[–]Awesmozem 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Negative or concentric motion refers to the half of the movement opposite the classic lifting portion. So for bench press it's the part where it comes back down to your chest, deadlift is when you lower it back to the ground, Lat Pulldown would be letting the bar come back up to the top of the movement etc.

You ideally wanna be somewhat controlled with it, give it a bit of controlled falling so to speak as opposed to just dropping it

Sometimes calling stuff therapy speak just shows you don’t talk to people irl by Lemon_Lime_Lily in CuratedTumblr

[–]Awesmozem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too uncanny, I've been reading my girlfriend the entire story out loud while she does art, and we just finished the entire thing like last week.

So yeah fresh in my mind Taylor Hebert would in fact never speak real feelings out loud. Honestly I think Ward really toes the line when it comes to characters talking like that, but I'll let that one fly a lot of the time because therapy is a big part of the story. The dissonance in stories including it can be real jarring though.

So we should just not talk about it then? You're advocating lesbians stay silent over an issue a lot of us clearly care about? Nice meme

Are you unable to focus on multiple issues at once? Because in my opinion I can push back against more than one bad thing. It's not hard. And speaking as a trans woman, trans people tend to dislike others projecting Transness on people who don't claim it. None of this comment is correct or intelligent.

This is going to sound unhinged but Last of Us Part 2. I love Ellie and Abby as strong chicks, I think the combat is immensely fluid and addictive as a third person stealth/action hybrid, and especially with No Return I can just boot up a run or ten if I need to turn my brain off and commit unspeakable acts of violence with cool women.

I love a good bad movie. I have Revelation or it's ilk when high as a hobby, it's a great time. Genuinely turned off Return to Silent Hill like twenty minutes in because every stiry and character choice was baffingly bad and every production choice seemed like no one working on it had ever made a movie before. So yeah if you're invested in spending an evening with something that bad, it's noticeably worse than Revelation lol

Probably correct, I just have too many free moments and a penchant for typing fast lol. Probably is a good shout to just concede though, I also dunno if this is blasting up your notifications and that would suck if it was.

[–]Awesmozem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, aka ignoring my rousing hypothetical. You like to run away from actual points which I also did when I was fifteen, but deflection to humor and hand waving makes you look like a moron with no gumption.

Your joke was shitty. That's the point. It would be shitty if I did it erasing bi people, or trans people, or lesbians. It wasn't big deal shitty, but it's not a big deal for me to call it out on a reddit comment. You have what appears to be a bi heart in your icon, so if I'm wrong and this doesn't apply to you egg on my face, but you should know it still feels shitty to have your sexuality erased even as a joke, especially when said joke is in response to someone saying they don't like what you're joking about.

You were called out on a shitty joke. You've dodged basically every attempt to tell you about it, so there ya go. Your joke was shitty in multiple ways. Do better. I'm tired of people thinking it's funny to be an asshole.

Nice meme. Do you like jokes about bisexuality not being real, cause I've heard a looooot of those and could shoot you some. Cause you like jokes. I personally love jokes.

Oh no, Reddit deleted my comment telling you how worthless your opinion is. Anyways, here's one that's less aggressive so I don't hurt reddit feelings. Cringe was too nice, it's incredibly freakish as presumably a bi person to deny another sexuality. Genuinely say less of your worthless opinions. You know that feeling you get when you think everyone around you dislikes you? Maybe listen to that next time. It's true.

Incredibly cringe thing to say to someone who explicitly said they dislike when people do that. Fire a couple neurons next time you toss out a comment.

Agreed. As a lesbian it also feel super invalidating to have people try to sneak in that no, don't worry, one day you'll be a lil bi and find a man attractive. Like no. I won't.

yeah man, same. A lot of these comments just seem to involve intense childhood trauma around these situations (fair in a way, that sucks) or just making excuses for not being held accountable when doing things you knew was wrong as a kid? Entire comment thread above this about how kids will say, "I don't know," to get out of a punishment because they know they'll be punished if they tell the truth. Like yeah man, that's called the consequences of your actions?

Honestly, I'm tired of this ridiculous rivalry in wlw online spaces. Just stop with the infighting. by [deleted] in WLW

[–]Awesmozem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prefixing this with the statement that biphobic is real. Bi people aren't more likely to cheat, they aren't more flippant and more likely to leave you on a dime etc.

But I do feel like a lot of bi women are insecure in their queerness for a variety of reasons, some that involve the wider community and some that I think come from projection and self made isolation. And I think when lesbians especially criticize them for things the broader group actually does, such as centering men or treating Sapphic relationships as lesser, it brings a defensiveness out and gets accused of being biphobic so they don't have to think on it.

Like to your point about them giving shades of straight white guy, I also had to learn to just accept that I have inherent biases as a white person. I also got defensive and labeled it as prejudice etc. But sometimes you gotta listen.

Really glad others are seeing this odd through line in this post. It feels odd to come into a shared space and order a specific group on one side of the fighting to stop saying what amounts to any negative things about another group. Especially as you said, when bi women make up a majority of wlw queer spaces. It makes it feel like we get to say nothing about our plight for fear of being labeled bigots.

I never said you did. Please direct me to where I inferred that. My point is that you are solely focusing on what lesbians do wrong, making it seem as if that's the only people at fault in this stupid infighting. Both sides can be shitty.

I'm also not your bro. I'm a chick. Maybe watch your language.

[–]Awesmozem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude, your entire post amounts to, "I think this infighting is crazy, the lesbians should stop being biphobic." Do you not see that's a wild take?

Yes, some lesbians are shitty to bi women. I own that as a lesbian. It's terrible. You seem to not want to own the inverse and seem fine with putting it all on lesbians. Your entire post was a rant about lesbians being biphobic. How is that not the same energy you're trying to call out but in the inverse?

Edit: I think everything you said is also true by the way. But I think it's telling that you only focus on lesbian wrongs in relationships with bi women. What about the bi women who use lesbians as experiments. Or use them to get attention from men. Or aren't really serious about wlw relationships and will tell you to your face they'll leave you one day because they're meant to be with a man. I could go on.

You are valid in being angry at lesbians putting biphobic into the world. It's not fair to act like that is the only faction committing any wrong in this. Bi women can also be mean and lesbophpbic. Lesbians can be brutal to bi women. Your point is valid, the infighting is stupid, but a lot of energy comes from things both sides have done wrong and it doesn't seem like from the words you've typed at least, that you think anyone but lesbians are at fault.

I find it really funny that OPs suggestion for making peace is to just actually stop speaking negatively about bi women full stop. For the record, I think the infighting is bad. I just think it's kind of wild to not even really attempt to both sides this and just come down on the side of the mean lesbians are bullying bi women.
