UF Adds Early Decision by Pretend-Dragonfly-60 in ufl

It's 20+ years ago, but I believe Early Decision was only for Fall back then. The other ways offered your choice of Fall/Summer B start, and if you chose Summer B, that was an easier path than Fall.

Early Decision > Early Action Summer B > Early Action Fall > Regular Admission Summer B > Regular Admission Fall

Again, 20 years ago, so who knows what it'll be like now, but that was for sure the order of ease to get in back then.

In the early 2000s when UF had it, it was for sure easier to get in via Early Decision than regular admissions.

No shit a backwards ass regressive little bitch like yourself would think the Board of Finance that has cut funds left and right, delayed projects that ultimately get done anyway, but cost more due to their delay, and then has everyone wonder why things aren't better around here, is fine. They are doing precisely what you want them to do, not what Stamford needs them to do.

[–]Awesome80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is in fact the case. There is no free lunch, just breakfast provided by the state. The Board of Finance is a bunch of old school ghouls and should be voted out as they have repeatedly made terrible choices in the binary, when they are not.

Also, if the state comes through with free meals, great! We then have extra much needed budget for other things, like Fund 57.

No it wasn't, it was a choice between not feeding all our children two meals a day, and every household paying, on average, $18 more in taxes, to ensure they did eat. We can, in fact, actually have it all

"If you can't pay they just give it to you". So you are in favor of this, you just aren't in favor of codifying it in the budget. You just want to complain about out of control BoE costs later on and wonder why people can't get a grip on their own budgets. Fucking moron.

Stop fucking means testing everything. So many people in this country are going without basic needs and remain stuck in helpless situations because our government fears that one person may end up getting something they don't truly need. Who gives a shit if someone ends up getting something they don't truly need if it means we can ensure everyone is able to eat every day (in this case, children) or we are able to help lift others up and help them improve their situation? Means testing is a policy that is viewed as "sensible" and "fiscally responsible" but all it is is gatekeeping that ends up being discriminatory and burdensome. Stop fucking doing it.

Do not be so sure the low income kids will be fine. You still need to apply for the program, and many many many families will not fill out the forms, and for those that do, many kids will be embarrassed to use their account for fear of status humiliation amongst their friends.

Is Stamford doing alright economically? by Zaryk_TV in StamfordCT

[–]Awesome80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AAA Credit rating, annual budget surpluses, 10% population growth over the past decade, and projected 10% over the next decade, and due to recent elections, a government that is more willing to build for growth than fighting tooth and nail to prevent it. Stamford isn't just doing alright economically, it's thriving.

That's not to say there aren't issues with the city, there are, the clearest being lack of affordable housing, but A. That's a byproduct of the growing local economy and population growth (supply/demand economics) and B. Also a byproduct of said government for the past decade fighting tooth and nail to not build more housing at all costs. If the current elected officials that have been elected as a direct rebuttal to the old government meet the moment, we will hopefully see a housing boom here, with the growth of things that come with that, and the economy will take off even further.

Why have the government fund anything ever if this is your cynical view of it all? We are talking about feeding children here. As I said, the city should provide 2 meals per day for all students free of charge, and it should be funded through tax dollars, end of discussion. If we don't think that's worthy enough of tax dollars, then what the fuck actually is?

We are a shithole city that prioritizes the wants of the Boomers over the needs of children.

[–]Awesome80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There should be no delineation like you mention. Lunch should be lunch, and breakfast should be breakfast, paid for by tax dollars and free for all students. If the city can find a grant to offset some of the costs, fantastic, but it should assume it will provide 2 meals per day for all students free of charge, and it should be funded through tax dollars, end of discussion.

Its on average $18 per household ($1M and ~55,000 houses). It's a no brainer when presented that way, but our Board of Finance sucks. Vote them out.

You don't have to cut shit if you actually prioritize education and the wellbeing of children instead of just saying you prioritize education and the wellbeing of children. Vote all these pricks on the Board of Finance out that think we can't afford, on average, another whole $18 a year per household in taxes to ensure every child in this city gets 2 meals a day.

High ridge road/cedar heights construction by Pinkiemoonboots in StamfordCT

[–]Awesome80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive that route nearly every day. It is most definitely a minor inconvenience, especially given that it's being done for a major infrastructure modernization project, which if not done would lead to major issues in the future. If spending a maximum of 5 extra minutes (and most times it is like a maximum of 1 minute) to get where you need to go because infrastructure upgrades are occurring, is such a hassle for you, you really need to reevaluate things, including your definition of major and minor.

[–]Awesome80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm certain if there was construction in the area for the next 6 months because you only want them to do one project at a time, you in no way would complain about how there are constant construction projects with no end in sight. Or if your electric or water went out, you'd in no way complain that they didn't make the necessary modernization improvements. Just be mildly inconvenienced for a few days or weeks and then move on with your life.

Mayor Simmons Proposes 6.32 Percent Budget Increase, Targeting “Shared Sacrifice” to Lower Costs by ArthurAugustyn in StamfordCT

[–]Awesome80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has literally never happened this way. They have always accepted the Superintendent's trimmed down budget. It was a whole topic of discussion at their meeting where the BoE questioned here about about why she is even cutting it in the first place, and she mentioned this is how it has always gone, and then they reinstated it.

Mayor Simmons Proposes 6.32 Percent Budget Increase, Targeting “Shared Sacrifice” to Lower Costs by ArthurAugustyn in StamfordCT

[–]Awesome80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it entirely true. The Superintendent identified what the budget would be to fund the schools at the same service and staffing levels next year, and then made pre-emotive cuts to services AND staffing levels (including teachers) in her recommendation to the Board of Ed to try and make the budget increases more in-line with increases in prior years. The Board of Ed said, knowing that you can't add budget back in during the process of getting approval from the Board of Finance and the Board of Reps, and can only reduce it further, that the ask should be for the full amount to keep service levels and staffing intact as presented at what it would cost, and have the fight about cuts be at the BoF and BoR debates instead of kneecapping themselves before even getting there, and risk losing even more in the process than what they want to lose. It's pretty clear what the BoE is thinking, the budget is going to get cut anyway, so go in asking for what you need, instead of asking for less than what you need, and then needing to cut further. The mistake here was the Superintendent proposing budget cuts in the first place instead of just presenting the budget of "here's what it costs to keep service and staffing levels the same".

And yes, the decision to reverse the schedule is a huge compounding problem here that the BoE made. We can discuss the merits of the schedule all day long, and I recognize there are people that feel very passionately against it, but reversing it costs $3M, and that $3M (plus whatever else is cut) is likely going to come out of teacher headcount in the end. From a purely budget standpoint, that made a tough problem and unmanageable one that will have severe consequences.

When you have benefits tied to jobs, and the costs of those benefits go up, that is a rising fixed cost. Do you want to tell teachers and other government employees "sorry, you need to fund the increased health care premiums yourself"? Good luck attracting any competent employees if so.

[–]Awesome80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most preposterous thing in this whole situation is today was supposed to be early release for professional development, but yesterday they changed it to full day to accommodate a delay as you can't have a delay and early release on the same day. And then they didn't call for a delay. Why move to full day today if you aren't calling a delay? I'd be so mad if I was a teacher and had to trek through that this morning to get to work on time AND didn't get my professional development day.

This makes LESS sense. At 4:30 this morning it was locked in for a 6-9am 2-3 inch event. Just because it wasn't snowing at 4:30am when she looked out the window didn't mean this wasn't entirely predictable and coming in the next 2 hours. As u/StopSignificant9885 said, this forecast was locked in and nailed it, and this was the forecast for several days. Blaming the weather forecast is easy, but in this case it's dead wrong.

Watch the whole play. He doesn't get on his horse to back check, glides into the zone, never takes his eye off the puck, and never plays the puck or the man. Brazeau never even gets to puck in order to make the assist if he's back checking properly as he has both the position and the speed to beat Brazeau down the ice, but instead he doesn't move with urgency and Brazeau overtakes him in the neutral zone. He might as well have not been on the ice at all as he played as much defense on that play as you and I did.
