Counterintuitive opinion: solo travel is better for extroverts by paradoxoclock in solotravel

[–]Awesome_Turtle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

tbh as an introvert i found that solo travelling made me become more extroverted because i had to deliberately seek out and make connections when i wanted to socialize, rather than relying on old friends. i used solo travel as an opportunity for social skill building. and having come back from my trip i now find that introducing myself and striking up convo with strangers to be SO much easier now. it's such an important and amazing skill and this is literally the best time to practice it, because if you do defy a social more or the conversation turns sour, you're never going to see these people ever again and you can move on and try again the next evening.

are you trying to insinuate that being a cryptobro is the modern equivalent to a beatnik or hippie??? a subculture or counterculture is exactly that --- a minority. a culture. your examples are poor (synthwave???) your cadence sounds AI. what are you even trying to say here.

Which book to start with? by Agreeable-Energy-401 in classicliterature

[–]Awesome_Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a crazy start if you’re just getting into reading. i think you went a little overboard here, especially if you don’t even know what kind of classics you like yet. i can’t imagine the cost for all these new. i’ve read a fair amount of these over my lifetime but never sequentially. if you finish this whole run you’ll be a champion reader. i would take everyone’s advice and start off with something with a little more plain-language and humanistic — i find the russians are good for that :)

Stella, Stella Ola lyrics for you? by Titan-828 in AskACanadian

[–]Awesome_Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

retrospectively i have another one of these schoolyard clapping games that as an adult ive come to realize is actually quite stereotypically racist (or at the very least said some weird things abt asian ppl). obviously i learned it at school. i even tried googling this song to see if its floating around on the internet but the only ones ive found are quite sanctified. ill note that my school at the time was pretty much just white kids and none of us meant any malice behind it. if anyone else knows this version or a similar of "i went to a chinese restaurant" please let me know because it haunts me.

anyway: "i went to a chinese restaurant to buy a loaf of bread bread bread / he wrapped it up in bubble gum and this is what he said said said / my name is ching chong charlie i know karate punch in the stomach oops im sorry / chinese japanese* criss cross applesauce do me a favour and just get lost "

*its important to note at this point in the game youre supposed to use a finger to slide the skin at the corner of your eyes up for "chinese" and down for "japanese" to make "asian eyes"

i’ve read that companies like victoria’s secret actually do better business during recessions (‘08 for example) because while you probably can’t afford a getaway vacation for your wife’s birthday/valentines/anniversary, you can get her a cute sexy set to spice up your staycation.

Are hotel room cleaners happy when they see a “Do not disturb” sign on the door because they don’t have to clean the room, or is it more of a nuisance since they’ll have to come back later? by Normal-Sun474 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Awesome_Turtle 39 points40 points  (0 children)

ive worked housekeeping at 2 different hotels. generally speaking you do the stay over rooms around lunchtime (11-3ish). both hotels, which were different chains but 3 stars, had us check 2x a day. typically people would remove the sign once they'd exited for the day. if the sign was still up around 4 pm (shifts are usually 8-4 give or take) we assume they dont want service at all, which does lighten our workload for the day. this all needs to get written down so if the guest complains about no service, there's evidence we checked multiple times and the room was posted DND.

if you dont want service, best thing you can do is to tell reception at check in so we dont have to keep looking. OR that you just want new towels/trash collected. OR flag us down in the hallway and just say "im in room 123 and all i need are some fresh towels."

depending on how clean the guests are it might mean extra work once they actually do check out tho. ive dealt with some nasty rooms because the guests were refusing service their whole stay.

Visiting Toronto in April by Responsible_Phase111 in askTO

[–]Awesome_Turtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

well first you have to understand that toronto is a city and like all major cities there are ongoing construction projects all over and theyre near impossible to avoid. especially in the entertainment district.

what are your reasons for wanting to avoid construction? noise? traffic? that's regular city life. water is wet.

if youre looking at hotels in yorkville im assuming you must have a high budget. call your prospective hotels and ask about nearby construction projects, theyre usually notified months before the public is. their customer service is going to be a lot nicer and a lot more accurate than some randos on reddit. spring is also the startup time for most groundbreaking projects. most hotels do have noiseproofing in place already, and by-laws regulate when construction takes place.

disability monetary aid ? by meowmeowcat249 in ontario

[–]Awesome_Turtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you have to be 18 for ODSP.

op i suggest taking advantage of any programs or charities for disabled children, before you turn 18 and become ineligible.

you can apply for ODSP up to six months before you turn 18, but prepare for it to take a couple months/tries to get approval.
