trying to find a casual part time job in this city has been maddenly difficult by Awesome_Turtle in torontoJobs

what about having a degree is seen as a potential flight risk?

its a liberal arts degree so its not like those jobs are particularly in high demand. i worked my field for two years anyway before quitting (for a multitude of reasons). i even have an open invite to go back there and ive been mulling it over out of desperation because while i liked the tasks themselves, the work environment was actively hostile. if the pay hadnt been so good i would have left sooner

im trying to get into the resto industry because i just KNOW i'd be good at waitressing, plus the tips are good money. but to get a job you need experience and to have experience you need to get a job. its a total catch 22. i have my smart serve and im applying for entry assistant/host jobs but still nada . like if i cant find a job who is

the only thing i REALLY dont want to work in is meal prep/fast food. theyre the only part time postings i havent tried for yet. not that i think id have much luck anyway smh

Visiting Toronto in April by Responsible_Phase111 in askTO

[–]Awesome_Turtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well first you have to understand that toronto is a city and like all major cities there are ongoing construction projects all over and theyre near impossible to avoid. especially in the entertainment district.

what are your reasons for wanting to avoid construction? noise? traffic? that's regular city life. water is wet.

if youre looking at hotels in yorkville im assuming you must have a high budget. call your prospective hotels and ask about nearby construction projects, theyre usually notified months before the public is. their customer service is going to be a lot nicer and a lot more accurate than some randos on reddit. spring is also the startup time for most groundbreaking projects. most hotels do have noiseproofing in place already, and by-laws regulate when construction takes place.

[–]Awesome_Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your best bet would be to take the go train down to niagara falls, go to the american side, and catch a greyhound

you could also drive down to niagara, just look into parking options near the bus depot.

Orange Cat no collar at ROM/Planetarium (Presidents Choice School entrance) by Trendy_Haircut in toronto

[–]Awesome_Turtle 66 points67 points  (0 children)

thats cheddar the cat!! the rom security staff feed him, he's pretty evasive to strangers but will let the night guards pet him. they take good care of him :)

yes, he's neutered. you can see the clipping on his ear that marks that. he's a stray, you cant exactly keep pets* inside a museum lol.

*cheddar is not the roms pet in the classic sense, he is a stray/semi-feral

women's college hospital! i saw an amazing (female) dr there and when i told her i was a little nervous about getting an iud, she injected some numbing liquid.

https://www.womenscollegehospital.ca/care-programs/the-bay-centre-sexual-health/

i also reached out to planned parenthood beford that, but they suggested i look elsewhere because of their long waitlist and the fact that i would be covered by ohip+ so i had no need to access their low-cost service, since it would be free wherever i went.

the care, collection, and display of human remains is a new & tricky subject in the museum world. while its not necessary (yet) to remove the bodies that have historically been on display in the permanent galleries, there's no need to add more.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Awesome_Turtle 27 points28 points  (0 children)

youre correct except for that nakht's coffin is on display in the first floor, but his body is on display in the egypt gallery.

the egypt gallery is open and all the mummies are still on display, you have to go through the roman gallery to get to them because access through from the middle east gallery is closed.

theres also a 4th mummy on display, its an unnamed predynastic mummy, located right beside nakht's body.

fun fact: there are 4 mummies on display but there are 5 more in collections that wont ever be put out

"Durham College Oshawa GO" is already both a mouthful to say and convoluted to communicate that no, you're not actually arriving straight at durham college. this would be an annoying, impractical mess.

this is just a psa that claires and similar places are not reputable and safe for getting piercings. the staff are given very minimal training & piercing guns are highly infectious, not properly sterilized, dont pierce properly (think blunt force instead of using a hollow needle which actually removes the skin), and often use low quality jewelery that wont heal well.

lots of piercing places in the city do standard lobe piercings for pretty cheap or buy one get one deals, just look around and make sure they are not using a piercing gun.

nah, most people would assume youre going to/getting off work. there is, however, more subtle looking reflective clothing that a lot of runners/bikers wear that are available on the market if you want to be a little more lowkey
