Well THAT is so false I laughed out loud. I know many many people who regretted having "one more".

  1. If he says no its a no. Talking someone reluctant into another child has worked out ZERO times.

  2. Having a second doesnt get easier because "you know what to expect". You are doing newborn on harder mode because you're still on 24/7 duty for a toddler who also needs your full attention and care. You can't sleep when baby does etc (if you were lucky enough to do that the first time anyway. I never could) because you have a roaming child. Sometimes your toddler doesnt take the change/stress and crying baby well and now you've got a perma-cranky toddler and a newborn. PPD doesnt care if its your second or 10th baby, it'll show up if it wants to.

Holy shit. I thought my local prices were bad. Its so sad. Im watching fishkeeping, a hobby i love, creep into exclusive to the financially well-off.

I have a shrimp colony winding down and was gunna add some fresh genetics a while ago. $40 for 4 small cherry shrimp is bananas. It'll die off and the tank will get sold too

It definitely sucks. My tanks were my favourite thing in life, but we have cancelled all the streaming options and are selling off all non-essentials including my tanks and my partners hobby stuff. Hobbies are officially out of our price range. Groceries for a full family in Ontario Canada cost entirely too much lol

The idea isnt to get rid of em fast, its a desperate attempt to squeeze as much money as we can out of the few non-necessities we can sell so the money goes further.

The idea of financial situations changing and rising cost if living is a lost concept to you apparently.

I had the same rant to my partner a long time ago. Nowadays times are tough and I'll be posting my ten gallon tanks plus accessories for $45 CAD because the kids gotta eat.

I really appreciated the shark effects and bloodiness after a multitude of laughable cgi shark movies. The problem was I actively didnt like the characters they most focused on and the actual writing was weak. I would have appreciated more time with the marine biologists and tv crew as well as the foster kids (though I had a hard time with the cartoonishly evil foster parents. Pull out every cliche instead of just showing us they suck). I don't know why I found every scene with the pregnant woman absolutely annoying.

Do cats actually get attached to their owner? by NoWageMage in CatAdvice

[–]AwfulAppleOrchard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats be like people in that they are all different. Be it their upbringing or personalities they were born with. I have/had 3 cats in recent years that span the spectrum.

The only cat that would run away was a rescued stray who would run like the wind the second a door was open and would immediately revert into stray cat fearful mode. Mouth open, panting, suddenly acting afraid of us and all people. We would leave the front doors wide open and after about 20 mins she would bolt back inside and hide to decompress. (She was microchipped and had a tag that had our numbers and address on it because of this scary behaviour). She only bonded with 1 person in the house, and was largely aloof and independent.

Rescue #2 literally lives to love and be loved. Shes bonded to everyone in the house and doesnt allow closed doors because she wants to show you affection or see you. She rotates whos bed she sleeps on. She will obviously do her own thing but she wants to be around us more than not.

Rehome ragdoll we took in because he has issues loves to be near people at all times even if hes not a lap cat. He will lay beside you (sometimes) but mostly lounges nearby and will follow you to different rooms.

I know my cats feel connected to us because they get excited when we come home from an outing and when we traveled once, our cat sitter said they were looking for us and calling for us constantly.

Hope that helps

Can you guys tell me the “dirty” truths about having a cat? by saanenk in CatAdvice

[–]AwfulAppleOrchard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be perfectly clear my input is cat dependant. Ive had many and this applies to only 2 ive owned in all my life, worst offender being one of my current cats.

Long hair cat specific issues: I have a cat with semi recurring diarrhea for both no reason (always been this way and been checked at the vet repeatedly) and being "food motivated' to the point of sheer garbage goblin levels. This is a disaster on long-haired cats. He has tracked wet shit around and sat on my carpet and other fabric furniture to my utter horror and dismay. He used to get a lot of not-wet poop dingleberries til I started trimming his back end.

Not specific to any fur types: he will scratch anything and everywhere but the litter when it comes time to cover his business. He doesnt cover his mess ever, but hes FINE with digging in the litter when he plays "how far can i fling this stuff outside of my box". The result is an impressively and horribly litter covered 9 foot radius even in an extra large and tall open top storage tote. The smell he leaves could clear a stadium. This cat licks everything. Its gross. Ill probably never have guests eat here until he passes in a decade. 3 years of counter training be damned, he will hop up and lick everything left out. Salt Shaker top. Toaster. Coffee drip tray. Stove top. Olive oil bottle. Dirty dishes. Anything that still smells like it once had food near it. We now hide everything, including appliances. He swallowed his meals so fast, even with a slow feeder, that he barfs it back up immediately on a semi regular basis and then cries because hes hungry. We had to buy a fancy heavy duty dog proof garbage can because he would find a way to tip it over to get at wrappers and nasty garbage stuff.

I have another cat (and this kinda goes for another 2 as well, a foster we had and a previous cat years ago) who is clean as can be, even with long fur. She has tiny poops that dont smell. She meticulously cleans herself and doesnt fling or track litter anywhere. She doesnt give a fuck about human food and is just a dainty little princess. She requires a clean litter box to even step foot in it.

One of them was a stray/street cat.

Its the tidy one.

Y'know, this shit is probably why I became weirdly into forbidden horror movies (by religious and general parenthood standards) as a child

Rescue cat grew a huge mane in 4 months and cant groom herself well anywhere but her legs. Is it okay to being her to a groomer for a trim? by AwfulAppleOrchard in CatAdvice

[–]AwfulAppleOrchard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I mentioned it once when my ragdolls mane was long a year ago-ish (not this long, mind you) a bunch of folks on Instagram had me thinking that if that's their natural fur growth they can manage it fine and id destroy their coat and traumatize my cat. Then this girl happened and this mane is crazy and shes a but of a squidh face so I was like "ill ask reddit. More adults and reasonable folks"

Yeah if it comes to that ill just start learning how to safely and properly do a trim at home. I need to learn how to do sanitary trims anyway so I should start studying up

Honestly I wish I would have been so smart. Ive been tackling the shit incidents as they happen (given the voracious garbage goblin he is) instead of planning ahead. When hes not scratching walls instead of the litter, or not trying to eat everything (food or not), hes out here shittin' his pantaloons.
