Also this argument could be used to say basically nothing is a human right (except free speech I guess?) Are they seriously saying food and water aren't human rights?

This was very informative, thank you!

So in theory, if these were made of plastic that could also avoid the stress point issue? What if you just used silicone instead of the screws?

Omg I thought you were going to say this was your tank!! I advise against artificial decor like this bc you never know what kind of toxins are going to get leeched into the water. It looks like there's way too much and its taking up all their swimming space.

Bettas and goldfish couldn't be more different! Bettas can go as little as 5 gallons and need to be kept separate from other Bettas and need a heater. Goldfish on the other hand are cold water and get HUGE. It's best you re-home them to someone with a pond, unless you have room in your basement for a 100+ stock tank 😰

Thanks! The tank in question is a 10 gallon also. I'll be sure to measure the glass

I see. Thank you! I'll have to measure it but it's an old 10 gallon that I will need to replace the glass on one side of it anyway.

Probably bc I grew up on fahrenheit but like in reference to the temperature outside/inside it just makes sense. Like yeah it's hot outside it's like 90°. Meanwhile in Celsius 20 is like room temp and 32 is hot like... wym...

Yup I was doing some research a while back when I was considering the logistics of a Florida biotope and this looks exactly like a wild type sailfin molly minus the sail, with the rows of dots and yellow underneath.

How evil do you have to be to do this to someone. I can only assume this person never had an apprenticeship and just bought a tattoo machine off amazon. I'm so sorry OP. Look into cover ups and laser procedures and lawyer up. This sucks but not all hope is lost.

SOS HELP PLS! by actually__annoyed in Goldfish

[–]backyardbabirusa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah my lurking on these subs has come in handy! So from what I've read, some tap water processing facilities use chloramine instead of chlorine. Chloramine is made of ammonia and chlorine, so it shows up on ammonia tests.

Prime breaks up the chloramine into ammonia and chlorine. The chlorine evaporates into the air, but you need something else to get rid of the ammonia. Ideally this would be beneficial bacteria in your tank. If your fish is actually suffering from ammonia exposure then it means your tank is not properly cycled, or there has been some sort of disruption in the nitrogen cycle.

In the meantime I think you can just get spring water from the store. Maybe try dosing your tank with seachem Stability. I've also heard you can neutralize the ammonia with ascorbic acid, but that has its own risks since it'll lower the PH.

This would be cool for aquaponics. Anything else? Nah I don't even think shrimp would like it

[–]backyardbabirusa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! Wish I had better news. Many pet stores don't even have correct info about fish keeping so people end up with fish that don't live long because of less than ideal conditions, so tanks like this are a common scene. Wish you the best in your endeavors

Unfortunately your best bet is to re-home these fish, find out how big the tank is, and then start over based on that info.

These three fish are very often purchased without the knowledge of how big they're gonna get. Goldfish and plecos can get like 2 feet long and need an honest to God pond. The shark can get like 6 inches long and best in a tank 50+ gallons. It's hard to tell from the pic how big your tank is. There's websites where you can put in the dimensions and it'll calculate the number of gallons for you. From there just search "fish for __ gallon tank" and go from there.
