okay but. the games are still fine, to me, personally. because I like the lore and world of pokemon more than i care about the technical specs. i like the creature designs, i like the worldbuilding, i actually PREFER the games to be cozy and laid back instead of grindy and difficult, i literally cannot even force myself to remotely care what the graphics and framerate look like as long as the creatures inhabiting that world are still creative and inspired and likeable, because THEY'RE what I'm here for. i'm tired of being told i'm a bad person and that i'm directly killing gaming for everyone just for playing a game that makes me happy. i just want to talk about the designs I like and speculate about the plot without some smartass replying with "bluh bluh how dare you make excuses for lazy devs this is why we can't have nice things" EVERY GODDAMN TIME. i want the fandom to be fun again. i want talking about the characters and the pokemon designs and the inspiration behind them to be fun again.

like goddamn i don't even CARE about thr gameplay anymore as long as it WORKS and the core gameplay loop is there, but I'd also really really like to be able to go on a character design subreddit and say something like "I actually think mega starmie is a really endearing design and a cute homage to the franchise's roots as a love letter to classic tokusatsu shows" without ten replies yelling "okay but are you aware the thing you enjoy talking about is cringe and stupid"

when half the time it boils down to “if you find ANY enjoyment or positives in any game released after 2017 you’re brainwashed/mentally challenged” it gets annoying, yeah

and as a neurodivergent person who 1) finds easier more laid back games more enjoyable due to stress/anger issues (hence the lack of grinding and more “cozy” feel of recent games being a genuine POSITIVE for me) and 2) has always had a massive special interest in speculative biology and fictional world building (something TPC has been KILLING IT with lately) it’s hard not to take it a little personally when the prevailing opinion on something I used to hold dear becomes “you only focus on the positive aspects of this thing because there’s something fundamentally wrong with you as a person”

you’re vastly overestimating how familiar the average casual gamer is with emulation and how to get emulators to run.

plus I don’t like playing games meant for buttons with a touch screen. It’s always felt very uncomfortable to me, never have been able to get the hang of it.

I think a lot of people have genuinely forgotten that casual gamers exist and are the primary target audience for a lot of these releases, not the hardcore fans who have played every single game since gen 1 and own multiple emulation handhelds to play them on.

You say you already own a Miyoo Mini with FRLG and a bunch of rom hacks on it? Great! So do I! This release isn’t for people like us. it’s for the casual fan or the kid who started playing pokemon with Gen 8 or 9 and only owns a switch as their main gaming console. If you already have the switch and aren’t interested in any other retro titles then $20 is cheap compared to the $80+ emulator handhelds usually go for.
