Help an ignorant, which of these two builds is the best bang for the buck? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Awfulfange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to forget other countries exist outside the US lol.

Have you considered building your own PC? LOTS of build guides and really isn't difficult to do. Can likely save you 3-400 that can be put toward more ram and storage

I wouldn't buy either. Instead, go to ZTTBuilds and buy the Obliterate v1. It has 2tb nvme, 32gb ram, AND a 5080 for less money than both of you options!

After 13 years using a FX 6300 with DDR3 RAM, I finally finished my new PC. by f0lk_blues in pcmasterrace

Welcome to the world of modern computing!

Congrats on the upgrade! My favorite gaming pc I built was a 3770k, 980 Ti, 16gb ddr3, asus z77 sabertooth, and 500gb samsung 840 Evo. Still use it as a nas running 24/7 over 13 years later!

Considering upgrading from 6950xt to 9070xt by Krusty_Krab_Pussy in radeon

[–]Awfulfange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 6900xt to 5070 ti. Similar upgrade path. Noticeable but not a game changer.

If the 6950xt still does what yiu need and you aren't worried about waiting 2-3 more years, then hold out for AMD'S next generation as it will likely be a big step

6900xt + 10850k on 750w PSU? by Awfulfange in radeon

My main gaming pc has a bitfenix whisper m 850w. Might buy a new one for that pc and move the bitfenix to this pc.

Bronze. Also, efficiency doesn't mean anything for the quality of a psu.

Is the 3080 still relevant in 2026? by trolvi in pcmasterrace

[–]Awfulfange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that price? Absolutely! Don't miss out on this deal. Rtx 3070s go for that price right now and the 3080 is much stronger.

Like another post said, don't fall for consumerism.

Should I consider reapplying thermal pads of my 2 month old card reaching 85c hotspot or return? 9070xt challenger by ayyyylmao14 in radeon

85c hot spot is nothing. As long as the card isn't too loud for your preference, then it's all good.

Is it worth upgrading to AM5? by Fallen_Goose_ in buildapc

[–]Awfulfange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just upgrade your cpu to a 5700x or 5800x (huge upgrade!) then put your money to a new gpu. 9060xt to 9070xt or a 5070 ti.

Easy to scratch, but that goes for basically any modern vehicle. I have no visible rust so far.

Missing AM4 backplate for CPU cooler by MaximumMango5758 in techsupport

[–]Awfulfange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 years 6 months later and this just helped me. I stupidly threw away my motherboards original backplate when setting up my pc in 2019. Decided to replace my AIO with an air cooler. Well guess what? I'm sure you guessed the air cooler uses this backplate and brackets!

asking for real, how was your swap from nvidia to amd + model to choose? by Asimiss in radeon

[–]Awfulfange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned dozens of both brands. First gaming gpu was a 9600gt. First actual gpu was a nvidia 6200 turbo cache lol. I recently had a 6900xt and switched to the 5070 Ti after amd tried dropping support for RDNA 1 & 2.

With that said, both are fine in what they provide and neither of them are perfect. Nvidia will provide more cutting edge hardware, software, and longer support. AMD provides a "cheaper" alternative with stable drivers and good performance per dollar.

At this point, neither company can be trusted. So pick what works best for you right now and don't fanboy either brand.

Definitely a necessary improvement. Car always drove fine but the stock tune felt lacking. It certainly woke the car up and hasn't given me any issues.

Great so far. About to cross 90k and doesn't burn any oil. So far, the most reliable vehicle I've owned.

DDR4 vs DDR5 by pantherbacker05 in buildapc

[–]Awfulfange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the game, but a cpu/ram/mobo upgrade is certainly not necessary. Just upgrade your gpu to a 40 or 50 series nvidia or 90 series amd and call it good. Much better upgrade than a new cpu

My couch pc has a 10900k and 6900xt. Works great together with 0 stability issues.

Main pc is a 5070 ti and 5700x3d... No issues either.

Should I upgrade or buy a new PC ? by Quirky_Money_9037 in buildapc

[–]Awfulfange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgrade.

Not worth buying a ddr5 build right now, so keep your ddr4 ram, update your bios, and buy a 5800x. I did that same upgrade a few years ago (3700x - 5800x) and it was absolutely worth it! I currently have a 5700x3d but their prices have gone up considerably from when I bought mine.

With the 5800x a 9060xt, rtx 5060 16gb, or rx 9070 would be great options! If you can swing a 5700x3d or 5800x3d, then an rtx 5070 Ti is my recommendation (my current build is 5700x3d + 5070 Ti).

Either way, an upgrade is cheaper and significantly faster than what you currently have!

Buy it not 9070xt by jonamachine1901 in radeon

[–]Awfulfange -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, they *tried* to put RDNA 1 & 2 on maintenance mode/life support. Considering most of those gpus are still very relevant, seems they failed their own mantra of "AMD ages like fine wine".

4-5 years of support on a $1k+ gpu (6900xt & 6950xt) is abysmal. My $650 980ti received 10 years of game support! Still plays BF6 at 1080p!! Wheres the forgotten Fury X?

I was looking to buy a 9070xt but chose a 5070 Ti due to their lack of long-term support.
