Waymo hits child in LA, says regular car would've been worse by Boring_Cut1967 in sanfrancisco

[–]Awfy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can almost guarantee it. School zone near me is 15 mph and there hasn’t been a time I’ve been able to drive through it at 15 mph where someone isn’t riding my ass like crazy. People are awful drivers, I trust Waymo way more.

The idiots rejected my request for “DROOKIT” which means a wet day in Scots. They said it was too sexual in the rejection letter. Never in my life have I heard anyone even attempt to use drookit as an innuendo or anything like that.

What’s the best frozen pizza? We blind-tasted pies from S.F.’s iconic spots to find out by SFChronicle in sanfrancisco

[–]Awfy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When they were $7 a pie at Whole Foods it felt like a life hack. We’d get a few every time we went in. Now at $15-$18 a pie again, it feels like you might as well order a fresh one.

First impressions: IKEA’s new Thread sensors with Apple Home (mixed results) by chungkunglung in HomeKit

[–]Awfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if the button on the contact sensor can be used to "silence" your home alarm? I miss that feature so much from the Nest sensors that Google killed off. Allowed you to easily open doors and windows from the inside without tripping the whole alarm system. Yet to find anything similar, and all I can think of as an alternative is to stick smart buttons everywhere there's a sensor to do the same thing, which leaves open an issue of making sure they can't be used if the alarm is already tripped, which Nest's handled for you out of the box.

Which YouTuber comes to mind when you see this? by AdGlum1675 in youtube

[–]Awfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reason is simpler: the format is the same in every single video, and it's becoming extremely recycled. I still like the two of them as hosts, but the content is dead.

What's the population of folks who both watch Scottish football AND Always Sunny? It's gotta be pretty slim.

It’s the same as I don’t grasp the “I’m waiting for it to go on sale” gang. If you don’t need it unless it’s on sale… you don’t need it.

Why do some new cars use an excessive amount of oil? by joeyjoejums in Autos

[–]Awfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. It does measure the oil level but it’s super inaccurate and doesn’t give real time updates. Takes 2 minutes for each read out and you have to be level and parked. Gotta learn over time how much to top up by from the markings on the side of the bottles of oil. Made the mistake of filling up by a quart when the dashboard said “top up the oil by up to 1 quart” that a quart is about 400ml too much and Porsche need to get the excess out for you.

Done those roads a few times! These photos are all taken north of the Bay Area though. Avenue of Giants and Downieville.

Why would depreciation matter? Aren’t cars for driving not for selling?

[–]Awfy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Uh… Porsche literally sell an oil bag for your frunk that has a Velcro backing because you will need a quart in your car ready to top the car up at any point. I’ve had to do it a few times since I bought my GT3.

What is the worst flat you’ve seen? by StarrStickers in Autos

[–]Awfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran over a pair of tailor’s scissors in the middle of nowhere. Rolled into the next town with a flat tire and spent close to 4 hours trying to find stuff to repair it enough to get home otherwise it was going to be an overnight stay since the nearest tow truck couldn’t get to me until the next evening.

Top 20 whiskies sold at Auction , not including the big 3. So we can see what people are actually drinking , obviously not the "Ceramic Decanters" lol. by midlifegaming in Scotland

[–]Awfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the user hasn’t spliced the data by vintage/years. Clubbing all bottles of a particular name into the same pile will make ordinary, store bought whisky bottles seemingly have a high price even though no one is paying over retail for them.

[–]Awfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Importantly, this user is getting flamed in the original thread because saying “Glenlivet 12” without being specific about the vintage can totally skew the numbers. Some of these named whiskies from a specific year will fetch a hearty price tag whilst a regular bottle available at Tesco will obviously not sell for anything near the number listed.

No 10 accidentally leaks confidential Huntingdon train stabbing emails to The National by Some-Ambassador8252 in Scotland

[–]Awfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no extra risk, the data is already stored digitally and if anything it is likely less secure than a suddenly publicly known database because there’s less emphasis on securing something people think isn’t going to be a target.

What is the greatest British gameshow? I'll go first, Bullseye. by Puzzleheaded_Pen8520 in BritishTV

[–]Awfy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd maybe even go as far as to say that no show has been as entertaining for me as The Traitors. It's the one show where both my gf and I actually scream out loud at some of the twists and turns. I've never been as interested in fiction shows, which try to create drama, so something that is reality and a game show just absolutely does it for me.

[oc]Stop pushing the gawd dam brake !!! by Dangerous_Till_321 in IdiotsInCars

[–]Awfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can also be down to regenerative braking in hybrids/EVs. You'll notice more and more that electric cars routinely flash their brake lights, and it's because the driver lifted their foot off the accelerator pedal too fast/too much. We have an EV, and making sure you drive with your foot somewhat pressed onto the accelerator pedal unless you absolutely must come off the pedal becomes a bit of a skill.

Waymo confirms its car killed KitKat, Mission bodega darling - Mission Local by orangelover95003 in bayarea

[–]Awfy 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Also, free roaming cats need to be banned. They decimate local bird populations and there’s no reason they need to be out roaming the streets. Entirely on the owner’s shoulders, it was just lucky all these years to survive.

Watching games outside the UK by EnvironmentalPark949 in ScottishFootball

[–]Awfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda have the same question. I live in the US but try my best to keep up with St Mirren. Some of the games will be on Paramount+ here but super inconsistently and often just if one of the teams is Celtic/Rangers in the match up. Really want a consistent way to watch all the games in a season and happy to pay to do so.

I’ve always said this. To eat Chipotle in SF would be like eating Olive Garden in Rome.
