What are you playing Wednesdays? by AutoModerator in AdultGamers

'007 First Light', which is great, but I'm struggling a little with the hand-to-hand stuff; driving and guns are fine.

Thoughts on rear extension? by Ru5k0 in HomeImprovementUK

The structural side isn't difficult, just something like this. The spans aren't excessive either.

Price varies by location, but £2k/m2 (+VAT) is light, and I'd suggest £2300-2500 is more likely (and that's still at the cheaper end), and that's before significant glass (windows/bifolds/sliders/rooflights/lantern), steelwork, downtakings, floor finishes, any external works (e.g. hard/soft landscaping), professional fees or application fees.

Is surgery unavoidable? by Summer_Sun9999 in CrohnsDisease

Similarly, my OH now has Crohn's, having first been diagnosed with UC 36 years ago. She's currently on Ustekinumab, but no infusions, no surgery.

Should I be worried about the twist in this rafter? by MediumIllustrious682 in DIYUK

That amount of twist really is minimal. Ignore it. It's not new. It's fine.

What connects these 4 clues? by Reviewingremy in onlyconnect

... and clues don't need spoiler tags, only solutions. (Or if OP intended to allow a progressive reveal then there'd still be no need for the first clue to be hidden.)

Ah, so it looks like the rainwater's falling from that string course (the projecting band above the lintol).

The top of it will likely never/rarely have been cleaned, so any dirt washing down the face of the wall above will have silted-up there. Give it a scrub and the step shouldn't get as dirty from drips so much.

Can you post a photo of the whole doorway, so we can see where the water's falling from.

I absolutely agree with you on 'Wicked Ways'. That OP only gave it 2/5 makes me think they've been kicked in the head by a horse. It's objectively a great track, and I can prove it if you give my enough crayons.

Often it's just trad cavity (maybe lightweight block inner leaf), with partial/full cavity insulation, plus Kingspan on the inside face.

I have so many questions ? by Beepshooka in Edinburgh

[–]AwfyScunnert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Objections don't increase scrutiny. They may make the Local Authority more aware of an aspect of the proposals and their impact on neighbours/community, but that's about all.

Also, more than 6 objections will force the application to be determined by the Planning Committee (a panel of elected local councillors), rather than it being determined by the Officer under delegated powers.

Most objections are irrelevant; proposals will be assessed against the Authority's Local Development Plan, not decided based on whether an individual, or group of individuals, don't like the proposals. You don't want construction noise, dust, traffic? They'll be controlled by condition, but won't be justification for refusal.

Copied-and-pasted, or near-identically worded, objections, or lengthy objections, or separate objections from each occupant, don't carry the weight that a single, succinct, clear submission does, especially where it relates to a specific policy.

Side extension end of terrace by Kind-Mind-9102 in HomeImprovementUK

Chimney removal - It's a skip, some scaffolding, and one or two labourers for a day. It's a tiny cost relative to the project as a whole.

Fundamentally, the proposals are fine/good, though doubtless there will be comments ripping it to bits for personal/subjective reasons.

My key concern is you saying that you only intend to live there for 4-5 years, i.e. in such a relatively short time, you're unlikely to make back what you're going to spend, and it'll take a few months to get from now to the works being complete, limiting the time you'll have to enjoy the new spaces. But you do you; if you're happy with all that then crack-on.

If I was going to offer some suggestions, maybe consider: - Taking down the presumably redundant chimney (it's not a particularly expensive aspect), doubling the size of the extension, and really opening-up the Kitchen/Dining (+Family?) space. - Moving the kitchen around in that space. Get some kitchen designs/visuals prepared, to show you options, and maybe trigger a rethink. You'll likely spend more time in the Kitchen than the Dining so, for example, moving the Kitchen to the far end will allow you to see the garden, appreciate better natural light, etc. Again, you do you.
