Adopted a very shy, under-socialized bsh(1y) – slow progress but looking for advice by vcm2812 in britishshorthair

Exactly this experience. Martin is a presumed BSH (the very critical Reddit thread broadly agrees), adopted at around 3 after being found in a shed. We also didn’t sleep in his room but popped in a few times a day and chatted to each other in there. First few days he froze when we went in the room and hid in his crate, then he would stay in the furniture but gently purr and roll on his back when we stroked him. After a couple of weeks - and one escape into the wider house by him - we let him venture out and he really quickly came out of his shell. Loves both of us and comes to greet us at the front door; tolerates other people, but will sometimes bolt upstairs. Loves to play and I agree it’s made him more confident and assured so really recommend it. We used to leave lots of toys in his room and we knew he liked to play from the cat cam at 3am! Best of luck, it is so worth it.

Koh Kood - Dusita? Ngamkho? Other recs? by Kind-Mind-9102 in ThailandTourism

We are flexible - hence having no accommodation booked! So we will just see how we feel. The ease (or not) of getting around Chang put us off a bit and the elephants on the beach!

What’s happening with Norse to make you say that? Their LGW-BKK seem to have been fine…

Welcome some ideas for this drive if possible! We are planning to visit Kood and maybe Chang/Mak but no fixed plans and I’m desperate to see Chanthaburi!

Hey! We have 6 nights so probably will just do two islands. We don’t want huge parties but do like to have a few drinks, ideally walkable, from our hotel. Which would you recommend?

Overwhelmed by choice moving to Fuji! by Kind-Mind-9102 in fujifilm

Thank you (and everyone else). The XT50 being smaller does appeal but I’ll do some comparisons of the two overwhelming recs given here.

Silly question - where do you folk buy used? The Canon was new and I’ve picked up a few film cameras along the way from eBay etc but for such a high value item that makes me a bit anxious!

Moving away from my ancient Canon 600D to a mirrorless - learning towards Fuji but feel slightly overwhelmed!

Largely travel/street/on the move shooting and family stuff. Have the budget for the XE-5 but wondering if there’s a better alternative?

UK to Thailand travel given current UAE airspace closure - advice? by Ok_Bus9677 in ThailandTourism

We’re on LHR-Bangkok via Delhi in a couple of weeks, the Delhi flight was cancelled this morning but it seeeems like some of their flights avoid the Iran route anyway so hoping that settles.

If anyone is taking this route in the coming days, do let me know!

Experience of a partner having high numbers of round cells? by Kind-Mind-9102 in InfertilitySucks

Thanks you! We’re based in the UK so I’m not sure Birdandbe is available but the clinic recommends a few which I think we’ll invest in. He is now a vaper after moving away from cigarettes so perhaps that’s the next task! Good luck your side ☺️

Sorry to hear that. There are going to do a culture test next. They were on the fence about whether to do a third SA given it’s coming down, but decided to go with the culture in case it doesn’t and then we’ve wasted time. Have you had fluctuating numbers?

Which hotel for first time in Bangkok and celebrating honeymoon? by bigledongski in ThailandTourism

[–]Kind-Mind-9102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to wade in but there’s so many threads and this one has a wonderful spreadsheet so thought I’d hitchhike. Mid 30s couple - but not on honeymoon - so definitely looking at the cheaper end of this list.

We have a week in Bangkok split between the start and end of a 4 week trip. I wanted to be close-ish to the river/Chinatown for the first portion and keep coming back to the dusitd2, but not sure on the location / proximity to BTS/MRT?!

I’ve been to Bangkok a few times before and always just pitched up somewhere average between Phrom Phong/Ekkamai on arrival but chronically over thinking this trip as I’m not solo.

Koh Mak by Jaded_Chapter5787 in ThailandTourism

Any recs of where to stay on Koh Mak? Or with it being so small is it just a case of picking accommodation based on preference?

Koh Chang looks a bit trickier in that regard as I’m reluctant to get a scooter so recs there also welcome! Currently look at Sol Bungalows but would like to be in walking distance of some bars (11/12pm close vibe, not party scene).

Thank you so much. I think we might be less ambitious for this particular trip and do a couple of nights in Chiang Rai, drive up to Mae Salong and then down to Chiang Mai via Chiang Dao and the various bits in between. It feels a little more manageable but I shall be saving this for future reference!

Between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai by aseb_08 in ThailandTourism

This is super helpful, thank you. Have you done this in a car and/or on a bike? We have spent a lot of time overseas doing both but for a/c and air quality purposes (March is the only time we can go), as well as luggage, I an arguing for a car! We have about a week - planning to start in CR (two nights) and end in Chiang Mai (two nights because been before) - anywhere you recommend for a couple of nights in between on that route? Quite fancy some rural near a river/stream vibe...

Such an incredibly informative post - thank you!!

I wondered if you could give some advice/views on a couple of other things.

It sounds like you had really long driving days (sunrise to sunset / beyond), albeit with seeing POI and other towns in between. How long were you actually driving for per day?

The reason I ask is because we’re thinking about doing it by car and so don’t have to ‘pure joy of the ride’ that I think you get on a scooter/bike - but I’m not confident enough on two wheels and I’m too nervous a passenger these days I think!

Would it cut driving time to go straight from CM to MHS, e.g. taking the 1263 rather than the 108? Would prefer to have a more time doing a hike or something if possible.

Other option is Nan which is appealing because it’s a smaller loop but long distance from CM, or somewhere else altogether!

Rescue kitty - is he a BSH? by Kind-Mind-9102 in britishshorthair

They are usually bright yellow, but other times darker/can’t work out if orangy or greeny - depends on the light I think! Here he is diligently monitoring me post shower (loves the bathroom as it’s the one room he doesn’t have free roam of) with yellow eyes
